Business Owner

Dr. Steven Merchant, a native of Southern California, attended Northwestern University School of Dentistry in Chicago. His professional experience includes practicing general dentistry in private practice, public health and at a Veterans’ Affairs hospital. Dr. Merchant has also served as a clinical instructor at the UCLA School of Dentistry. He completed two additional years of specialty training to earn his endodontic certification at the Long Beach Veterans’ Affairs Medical Center

I recently was referred to Dr Merchant’s office for a root canal. My experience was exceptionally pleasant. The staff at the front desk and the dental assistants were very knowledgeable and friendly.
Dr Merchant was also friendly and knowledgeable. I could tell he knew what he was doing. All the equipment in his dental office looked like state-​of-​the-​art equipment.
Needing a root canal can be extremely painful. Dr Merchant new all the tricks to ensure my tooth was properly numbed before performing the proceedure.
As expected, my tooth was slightly sore for about two days. Now my tooth is doing fine.
I just wanted to formally thank Dr Merchant and his staff for their professionalism and and friendly atmosphere. I would not hesitate to recommend his office to all my family and friends. Hopefully I will never need a root canal again, but if I did then I would be a returning customer.

Great Dr, was really scared today when I went to get my root canal I had previous work done was awful but Dr Steven did beyond my expectations so thankful I didn’t even feel anything .thank you so much for your help Dr Steven. The stuff was really nice to.

Super grateful for Dr Merchant who went above and beyond for me w a dental emergency that started in the ER, w an entire sleepless night of pain, then my general dentist and then a referral to Dr Merchant. He personally called me after hearing what was going on, asked me how I was doing and made a plan w me to be seen sooner than I thought I would be able to. At 12 weeks pregnant, I was totally at ease having my procedure done. Thank you Dr Merchant & I even got to meet his beautiful wife.

I had a ton of painful dental work as a kid, including 11 teeth pulled and 4 years of braces. I was so scared to have a root canal done but Dr. Merchant was awesome and made it as easy & painless as possible. Don’t be scared, go see him and it will be a breeze for you too. Now I just regret that I waited so long to have it done.

I can’t say I like going to the dentist and I especially wasn’t looking forward to getting a root canal, but Dr. Merchant and his staff put me at ease. Dr. Merchant was very informative and kind. He has a very calming bedside manner and explained the whole procedure to me. He was very gentle during the procedure and I have to say that I barely felt a thing. I would highly recommend Dr. Merchant to my friends and family. In fact, some of my friends and family have visited Dr. Merchant as well and they all have had the same experience !

Just a bit annoyed, initially I had high regards for this Endodontists. My dentist sent me to him to look at an X-​ray that looked like there might be something up with my tooth. He did one of his 3D x-​rays and checked my tooth and said it was fine. I got to keep my teeth which was great. This was 2013 and the X-​rays afterwards from my dentist has been fine each year. What is annoying me is that his office keeps calling every year about my teeth like they are waiting for something to go wrong, telling me to come in for a scan when my X-​rays are fine. Its just annoying.

Exceptional work. As a dental professional myself, I have seen Dr. Merchant’s work and have a lot of respect for it. He sees patients for their first visit in a timely manner and always treats them well. I confidently refer patients to him on a routine basis. This is the place to go!

Fantastic experience overall! Gretchen met me with a smile and made me feel welcome from the moment I walked in the door. In less than 5 minutes I was speaking with Dr. Merchant who made me feel completely relaxed. During my root canal Dr. Merchant and team were very attentive and professional yet personal the entire time — what a relief! I experienced no pain and could not expect a better experience. I am very grateful for Dr. Merchant’s help. I was told I needed a root canal by a dentist, but Dr. Merchant explained that because I am missing three teeth, I am putting too much strain on the others when I chew. A recent filling by the dentist was too high and all Dr. Merchant did was grind it down a little and for the first time in months, I have no pain. He could have ripped me off for hundreds of dollars and I wouldn’t have known the difference. Thank God he is honest.

I had a toothache for 3 weeks. I went to see Dr. Merchant and sure enough I needed a root canal. Im happy to report as of this morning im no longer in pain. If your ever needing a root canal, He is the man. The entire experience from being greeted by Gretchen at the front desk to his assistant Melissa it was an overall great visit considering what I was there for. I highly recommend Dr. Merchant! Its great to be pain free, after being in pain for so long.

From the very first phone call into this office I truly felt at ease and confident that we had made the right choice. I was setting this appointment up for my husband who was already dealing with several medical issues and this just added to the list. Gretchen was kind and caring and made us feel like our questions and concerns were validated. She was precise on all the fees that may be expected (no hidden costs). She and Dr. Merchant worked with us so that we could make if more affordable. We all know root canals are expensive but the quality and exceptional care we received here was above and beyond. Dr. Merchant’s quality care was perfect and his assistant (I don’t know her name) was great too! My husband loved how he explained every step and educated him on the process. Gretchen was so compassionate. I would give this place 10 stars if I could.

The very best!!!
Dr. Merchant freed me from a lot of pain! After going to several dentists, having botched work performed and then misdiagnoses on what the actual problem was, Dr. Merchant was able to take a CAT scan and identify the ACTUAL problem and corrected it all after 2 small visits! Dr. Merchant and his staff were very gentle and accommodating and was more than worth the price I paid!!! For the first time in years, I am able to actually chew food on the left side of my mouth!
I could not be more grateful for the wonderful service and I would recommend him highly to everyone I know.

Dr. Merchant and his staff were wonderful to me when I was going through a very tough time. His receptionist, Gretchen, was extremely helpful and caring when I was in pain and needed to be seen as soon as possible. The doctor was very professional and gentle. I don’t just trust anyone with this type of complex procedure and he did a fabulous job. His assistants and especially Gretchen were very professional and accommodating. I highly recommend this practice. If you have to get a root canal the staff and Doctor make it much easier. I hope I don’t have to come back but I will refer everyone I know here for their excellent care.

My dentist referred me to Dr. Merchant for an emergency root canal. I could not be more pleased with the care I received. No waiting, no pain, and friendly staff and doctor. The option to choose a Pandora station and wear headphones during the procedure seems like a minor convenience but it made a world of difference. Highly recommend this office.

This dentist actually made my root canal pleasant as did his most professional and compassionate staff. Every dentist should be as caring and friendly especially when you really don’t know what to expect as in my case. Well, unfortunately, I have had 9 root canals in my life, and several of them with Dr. Merchant. Every single one has worked as it should, with him. Depending on the tooth, the process can take some time, my last one took over an hour … but, he takes the time to do it right, and make sure the root will not hurt you, ever again! YAY! This is the worst pain, and I am in pain right now, ready to go in for some relief … again to Dr. Merchant!

Dr. Merchant is simply a miracle worker. He’s the guy you go to to fix the botched work of other so-​called dentists. Don’t waste your money or time going to any other endo, just get it done right the first place. The reason for the 4 stars is that he is pricey, but he does have state-​of-​the-​art xray machines (no guess work), and he gets the job done in 20 minutes, and zero pain. Take it from someone who knows root canals, he’s the best. Who cares about the ‘personalities’ in the office, you’re not there to make friends. I didn’t think they were rude, or overfriendly either… either way, I went to him because he knows his job, and does it very well!
