Just got done with my first visit here. Came in wanting to learn more about D&D, left with the knowledge I needed as well as a good benchmark for the price. The only reason I’m taking off a star is because the store felt very dirty. Not somewhere i would feel like spending more time than needed. With that said, a good remodel nd this place is up to five stars. Friendly, knowledgeable staff was able to give me what I needed without giving me the «pesant» feeling I get from some other places

Not the cleanest comic book store I been too. The bathroom also smells pretty bad. Had a really good selection of Pokemon Cards though.

Walked in and was hit with a wall of BO. The air was thick in this store, which was crowded due to some tournaments that were going on at the time of my visit. Despite the «fragrant» nature of the air (and being stared at by fellow customers due to my femaleness… sigh) my husband and I had a highly positive experience at Adventures in Comics & Games.
The guy who helped us, Connor, was awesome. He engaged my husband and I by asking us open-​ended questions about our gaming interests. Once he heard this was our first visit he walked us through the store’s different features, such as their rewards program and their online card inventory for ordering (in our case) single Magic: the Gathering cards. Connor also walked us through the ordering process. During all of this he was friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. Superb customer service. Thanks, Connor! You deserve a raise.
If you decide to visit though and want to avoid the stank and potential staring try to do so during the day. It looks like they have events held just about every evening.

Owner, sitting at the computer the whole time, told us having s 25 cent box was a waste of time, that comic shops didn’t do that, and that we should check Goodwill. We’d been to three comic stores already that did, since we’re stocking up for my stepson’s summer reading. We won’t be going there again.

we went here on free comic book day. I saw all the gamer’s playing at the tables. We didn’t see any comics that we liked so we bought a couple and learned that they have a grade program for kids in school. This deserves another visit back for my son to use it. Great service

Good shop. Staff is friendly when you walk in. You feel at home. Very nice card selection. Not over priced. I would recommend a friend.

Best place in Sacramento to buy Magic the Gathering cards. Prices are competitive with online prices. The cards selection is big. They have a computer system in the store that you look up stock and «order» cards you want, then print your list and the staff pulls the cards for you. This allows you to browse through their entire selection, see prices and availability before you have the staff search out a card and pull it. You can tinker as you find out prices and available selection. Every store (not just card stores) should have a system like this.
The staff have always been nice and helpful. In fact, even customers like to help answer questions for me.
I haven’t played cards at any of their tournaments so I have input on that.
So why not 5 stars? Limited selection in other games and comics, more space is needed in the store, the store needs a face lift, but mostly someone just needs to clean the place.
All said, it’s the best MTG store in Sac.

They have a card game for everyone! I like how you can play with outer people and earn store money so you can get things cheaper. I can’t name one thing bad about it

Best place to get singles. Don’t know why some people complain about their prices on singles cause so far they have the best deals in town. Also, friendliest staff at any comic book store I’ve been too, and I’ve been to most in town. Definitely a nice change from the classic «know-​it-​all greasy haired nerds that work at most of the others. Yes the place smells like BO and if ur a chick prepare to be stared at. But hey that just goes with the territory. Most of these guys don’t have much of a «real» life. They could invest in some kind of smell good stuff. Oh and stop charging to play magic! Anywag my favorite store for magic cards. Online inventory is very helpful.

I love this place like you would not believe. I am more into the comics than the gaming which is huge here since they play until 10 at night and later at times I hear. The selection of comics is a little slimmer than I would like but they can order your favorites and have them waiting like any other comic shop. They en have some decent back issues and a few decent collectible variants and classic issues. The parking sucks since they are right near this crap mini mart but it is a great place for the gamers and comic aficionados alike. Thy have a monthly calendar for some of their deals and game competition schedule. You guys rock as a neighborhood comic spot.

I’m from out of town and needed a quick comic fix. I walked in and was greeted right away by the dude working here. First impression it seems like they are more focused on card games than comics. With a small selection of currents and an interesting collection of some random issues, it was kind of hard to find something I actually wanted. So look closely and thoroughly and you might find something that will make your trip worth it, I did anyhow. And they are open late which is pretty sweet.

Place sucks for Magic, they let people do whatever, no rules.
I like comics but this place don’t, they order like 2 of each comic and their back issues are so thrashed. The workers know a lot about card games but no knowledge on comics. Not to mention they charge FNM. Lame
Oh don’t bring your girlfriend in there, these guys freak out and stare hardcore.
My biggest gripe, place smells like butt and sweat. It is so unbearable. It makes me nauseated

I’ve just recently gotten into board games and have been curious about D&D for years. After watching Tabletop on Geekandsundry channel on YouTube with Wil Wheaton, I decided to go look for a few games and feed my inner nerd self. This spot is right down the street from my house and full of great games (20% off this month!), and a very friendly group of staff. I’ve been back 3 times in the last few weeks, and have enjoyed the atmosphere and gleaning info from Anton and others staff members. I’m sure I will be a regular customer for quite some time!

Extremely poor customer service. This store is the brick and mortar attachment to

When I placed an order with their website, I asked for a very reasonable request: I wished to pick up my item in person, instead of having it mailed since I live only 10 miles away and was leaving town for an extended time. I even wrote to their customer service, and have received no response four days later. A clerk at the store couldn’t assist me, even though their warehouse was merely feet away. It would have taken less than 10 minutes to accommodate my request, yet no one bothered to lift a finger.
Will absolutely not patronize again. Recommend hobbyists try Big Brother in Midtown or Great Escape on Howe.

This was the place where I started my comic book journey, so how could I not be partial to this place? I was having a really bad day and coming here was a definitely a great place to clear my head. Anton was very friendly towards my girlfriend and I, and very insightful. I had a great time staying here and reading comics and the selection was magnificent, so I can’t help but say good things about this place. Definitely a great store to visit!

Really good selection of Yu-​Gi-​Oh cards, but the whole decks can get really pricey which makes me sad: o but they’re in excellent condition, which is always worth the price. The downside is that they should have some beginner tournaments for Magic: The Gathering, because it seems really fun and learning how to play is something I know a lot of gamers would like to do :)

Friendly knowledgeable staff with excellent prices (especially if you join their free rewards program). The owner (Avrom) also leases the space next door that allows for even more gaming groups than the main store.

This review is more or less aimed at my experiences playing Magic: The Gathering at this store.
After moving to Sacramento, I started to look for a store to play Friday Night Magic tournaments at. Most Magic players typically have a «home store» where they go for most of their tournaments and other events, and I decided to give Adventures in Comics and Games a try. Unfortunately, I found the other players at Adventures to be rather pretentious, and extremely unfriendly to a (more or less) casual Magic player like myself. Folks at this store are hellbent (heh heh, Magic pun!) on being the «best players possible» and are the type of Magic player that goes to PTQ’s, Pro Tours, and other big tournaments with one goal only: to win. A lot of the players at this store seem to forget that (gasp) Magic can be fun too!
So, enough about the playing climate, what about the store? Yes, the employees are knowledgeable. Yes, they have a huge assortment of singles to choose from. However, their singles are usually priced at or well above what they are actually worth– you won’t find many deals. Also, **they charge for Friday Night Magic tournaments!!!** This is huge, as FNM’s are supposed to be free. You get the feeling that the owners of this store are trying to milk as much money out of their customers as possible. I understand that they are a business and need to make money, but FNM’s should be free, just like they are everywhere else.
All in all, if you’re a super-​serious I-​Just-​Want-​to-​Win Magic player, you might like this store. But if you want to have a little fun, try elsewhere.
