The August Effect

I am so upset at myself for choosing Sheila. Looking back, I was desperate and in a rush to find a backdrop person for my wedding since my other backdrop person cancelled on us last minute. Sheila met with my now husband and I and she made it sound like she could make my wedding dreams come true. Unfortunately, less than half of what I asked for was done and it was such an embarrassment. It literally looked like a half-​ass job that was done by me or some estranged family member who wanted to exact revenge on me or something.
To go into detail, I asked for a 10ft tall backdrop for my sweetheart table and to cover the windows leading to the busy El Camino street. I don’t want to see head lights passing by at night — It’s not good for my guests eyes to look at when they’re looking at us and it’s overall not pretty. The backdrop is not supposed to be see-​through and it should have a gold swag on top of every panel to match my rustic + gold theme, and pink uplights. The panel behind my sweetheart table was supposed to have Christmas lights (which I provided) and my sweetheart table was supposed to have Christmas lights on them as well. Below I’ll try to add pictures of what it was SUPPOSED to look like and what it actually ENDED UP looking like.

Sheila told me that they would come and decorate from 3−5pm (after Dim-​sum and before my guests start coming in). She asked if I was going to be there and I said yes since that was the plan. Plans didn’t go my way the day of like almost all weddings and I came to my reception around 5:30. I felt nauseous from the limo ride and stayed locked up in a back room — coming out I was taken aback by the extreme lack of professionalism that Sheila and her crew provided. And I paid $ 820 for this S**T!!! Sheila blamed ME for not coming there on time and said she realized that it’s not finished so she was willing to give us some money back — that was the day of the wedding. I wanted it ALL back — the décor Sheila put up was better if it wasn’t there. My otherwise classy décor by myself and my awesome floral person Yearsly from 7Vst Florals helped her décor to look decent (don’t be fooled by the gorgeous décor on the Sweetheart table — that was NOT done by Sheila) but even my guests noticed that the backdrops weren’t good — again so embarrassing…
After my 3.5 week vacation right after my wedding my husband and I contacted Sheila again. I wanted at least $ 500 back but she negotiated $ 350. What a rip-​off!!! We were considering sueing her but it was a bit hard since we didn’t know her address (she’s not on BBB and doesn’t have a website — SHADDY now that I think of it) and she was holding our contract prisoner (she NEVER emailed it to us after we signed it and we were just so happy to find her that we didn’t take a picture of it then with our phones). We have asked her more than 5 times to give us a copy and she never did until the day she handed us a money order). Now I know how to sue her but since we already made the agreement to get $ 350 back my husband didn’t want to extend the whole thing so he said to just wait — we should’ve sued…
Just FYI — My wedding at on August 29, 2015 and we came back from our vacation September 20. Sheila kept delaying her repayment saying her assistant was supposed to do it or that it was in the mail — a load of LIES!!! Sheila finally paid us the $ 350 back on November 29 — It took 3 months!!! I think she was really making it hard for us… I will DEFINITELY NOT be doing any more business with her and I would highly recommend everyone to STAY AWAY from this money hungry person!!!

The August effect was fantastic. Sheila and her team did a wonderful job setting up a beautiful scene for our wedding. Everyone loved the backdrop we used for our ceremony and continued to use for a photo backdrop throughout the evening. Very professional and reasonably priced. My husband and I worked with Sheila for the lighting in our wedding. One of the easiest vendors we had a chance to work with! She was very professional, responded fast to emails and offered the best pricing for things. We met several times coming up to the big day, and she helped out a lot. When the my big day came, I had absolutely nothing to worry about. Our reception lit up perfectly! I absolutely loved it! Thank you so much Sheila!

My husband and I got married on 8÷17÷13 at the Sheraton in Palo Alto. «The August Effect» was recommended from the person we worked with at the Sheraton. I contacted Sheila and told her what we envisioned. We wanted purple up lighting with gobo lighting on the side walls of the room. When we walked in the room of our reception we were so shocked by how amazing the room looked!!! We received compliments all night from our guests and even the people who worked at the Sheraton! The prices were perfectly reasonable and the room was incredible! Sheila did a great job getting back to me if I had any questions prior to the wedding. Overall we were so happy with our lighting and how beautiful our room looked! We would recommend Sheila to any of our friends and family!

I got married 3÷23÷13 in Danville and I really wanted purple uplighting for my reception. I called around to MANY different places throughout the Bay Area and was astonished by how much they were charging for uplighting! Just when I thought I wasn’t going to be able to afford the lighting for my wedding, I found The August Effect on Unilocal.They had the highest ratings so I immediately emailed Sheila to get a quote which was by far the best deal I had found and she was extremely prompt with her response. She was very professional with her emails and her communication throughout the entire process and once my wedding day finally arrived, I knew I didn’t have to worry about her showing up on time. I would recommend her to anyone who is looking to add a little special touch to their reception without spending a ridiculous amount of money. On December 29,2012 was our wedding day (Leilani and I) at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Newark, California. We had a 3 hour gap between the wedding mass and the wedding reception at Milpitas Community Center. This gave our wedding reception vendors time to decorate and design the hall for 2 hours. The innovative lights and decoration services of the «August Effect» has made the whole Milpitas community center looked very classy, festive, and romantic. Many of our guests who were invited to the reception were impressed. They said they had never seen the Milpitas Community Center that beautiful, classy, sexy, dramatic, and romantic because of the dim lighting and the beauty of the red and blue uplights shining on the walls, stage red curtains, the white projector screen background, and just how aesthetically beautiful the uplights looked all over the place. The red and blue uplights looked amazing in the pictures of our guests that they uploaded on facebook.

I am a strong believer that you get what you pay for.
To find a lighting vendor for my wedding, I contacted a bunch of different vendors to get some price quotes. Sheila was very responsive by email and she had the best pricing by far for uplights and a custom gobo light. She also agreed to meet us in Fremont instead of Casto Valley, which saved us a lot of driving time. After meeting with her, we signed the contract and mailed her the deposit. She was really prompt at following up with us and getting the information that she needed for our big day.
When I arrived at my venue, Sheila had already set up the uplights and the gobo light. As the afternoon turned to night, I was surprised to find that the 24 uplights in our medium-​sized venue didn’t make as big of a difference in ambiance as I had thought. Also, the gobo light on the dance floor was rather small and blurry, and the last letter of husband’s name was so faint that it was barely even visible.
The day after the wedding, Sheila emailed me and thanked me for my business. I provided her with my feedback on the uplights and gobo light, and I never received a response.

Sheila is super nice & has the best prices for lighting! You can get a whole lighting package for well under $ 1,000. I received quotes from other companies for way more. The uplighting & the monogram looked awesome! I definitely recommend using the August effect for any wedding or party you may have!

I met Sheila at a bridal expo in Palo Alto. She was attentive and responsive to my questions right from the start. After working out a wedding budget I hired her for uplighting and panel backdrop services for my July 7^th wedding at the Sheraton Hotel in PA. Her work was fantastic and really impacted the overall look and feel of the reception venue. She set up the LED lights exactly how I envisioned them and the backdrop framed our head table beautifully. Her prices are very competitive and her customer service is top notch. Go Sheila!

I used «The August Effect» for my wedding. They provided uplighting for the head table and gobo lighting for the dance floor. Their prices are extremely reasonable and service is great. All my guest were delighted with the lights. They especially liked tthe gobo lighting with our names and wedding date on the dance floor. It added the perfect finishing touch to all our wedding décor.

Sheila is your Go To Woman if you need to get uplights and backdrop for a reception done in a matter of 2 weeks! And if it wasn’t for her being so malleable and adjusting, I don’t think my brother would have had a fantastic reception like he did!
Sheila is a thorough professional, as is her team. They arrived at the venue on time and set it up like I described and came to take them down on time as well. She worked with me on trying to get the colors my brother and his wife wanted for the uplights and backdrop. She even gives you her own thoughts about how the colors would look like at the venue. And in a matter of 2 weeks, going back and forth via emails, text messaging and meeting her personally, we had the perfect idea for the reception.
