Shady Oaks Gun Range

The shooting range is clean and well lit. The staff is very professional and friendly. Price is competitive with other indoor ranges. Super happy to have this range in our area of town and will be coming back often!

The more I go to this range the more I realize that out of all the indoor ranges around Austin I like this one best. This business has awesome range safety officers and excellent staff. They are always friendly and great to be around. The facilities are great. Target holders are modern and well made. The only reason I ever have to go to another indoor range is to sight in my rifles at 100 yards.
Another thing they allow that is rare is rapid fire. If you keep your shots within a reasonable group then you can rapid fire. Although please don’t abuse this policy. They are the only indoor range I know of allowing more than two shots rapid fire.
TL;DR: The place is awesome. If you don’t believe me. You will after one trip to their range.

I love this gun range. Ed greats you with the warmest welcome when you arrive and is excited to fill y’all with anything and everything he knows about guns and shooting. Mark and Carson are so encouraging yet ready to educate and help you at the drop of a hat. No pretense here, just good olé training, safety and kind people. So excited to find this gem and thanks again guys for all of your help in finding the right baby for my hand. LOVE my new sweet friend ;)

Came here with my mother and her friend shortly after my mom’s 65^th birthday. My mother is English and her friend is Scottish and they had never fired a gun before. I brought my handgun with me and thought I was competent to teach my mom and her friend how to act at a gun range — but I was wrong. A member of the staff, Bob, immediately intervened when our gun range etiquette was off and was amazing. He taught my mother and her friend how to properly handle firearms, how to aim, and how to abide by the rules of Shady Oaks (and any other gun range). And Michelle up front at the check-​in desk was amazing. She explained the rules, pointed out the rental weapons, and was incredibly patient and sweet. She was a star! One needs to be aware of the seriousness of handling firearms at a gun range — the staff at Shady Oaks are professionals at keeping things safe, but they do so with a kindness and understanding that I feel is lacking at other gun ranges in town. You are going to be safe and happy here, regardless of your level of expertise — they are accommodating to all enthusiasts!

Nicest range I have been to so far. Friendly, knowledgable staff without the RAMBO complex. This will be my new go to range.

Awesome place. Just as other reviewers said, there is no condescending attitude toward those who know nothing about guns. My wife had a 25 minute conversation with the owner about what guns would be best suited to her and never once felt intimidated. She even ended up wanting to do a beginners course alongside two of us who were shooting ARs right next to her.
This place is awesome, A/​C is great — never too hot, the range guys are fantastic and keep a close eye on anyone doing something dangerous which was VERY welcome a few weeks ago when some Japanese came in on holiday and starting jumping around and hollering with excitement at shooting stuff. Thank God for those guys. They’re always on hand to sort out misfires, jams etc and never have I had any attitude from them due to my relative lack of experience.
Been here 3 – 4 times now, and will be coming back ASAP — this is as good as it gets (minor criticism is that it gets a little busy but then its raining and thundering so there’s not much else to do today).

Visited Shady oaks for the first time this past weekend and I had a blast! The staff is extra friendly and helpful, genuine people. This was only my second time shooting and I was a little nervous but once walking in here I felt very comfortable. There are cameras and safety guidelines to follow that I feel make it very efficient. I will say that not being a gun owner or frequent shooter, I was a little shocked at the prices, seemed a little high but I am hoping to go back soon for ladies night!

This place is the Ritz Carlton of gun ranges. I’ve been shooting for 25+ years and have visited dozens of gun ranges. All of them can be summarized into a few categories: 1) Cold war era facilities and grumpy old men waiting to yell at you. 2) Cold war era facilities and middle aged men that think their customers are idiots and everything they say is gospel about guns/​ammo 3) This place.
I’ve never been to a gun range that care so much about their customers. I was greeted at the door by their friendly staff. They handled my FFL transfer very quickly and offered to have me try out their gun range. The range is awesome. You can see pictures on their website. Brian McRae, the range security officer greeted me with a smile and a handshake and offered to lube up my brand new Mossberg 500 combo (28″ & ¹⁸⁄₅ barrels). I told him that I’ve been a long time rifle and pistol shooter but this was my first shotgun. He gave me a quick 30-​second rundown of the gun and told me to let him know if I had any questions. He has a similar model.
I think a date night is in my future at this place — it’s that nice. My wife would definitely approve of the facility and friendliness of the staff.
The price of the shooting and ammo is in line with the quality of the facility. Also, they have all the new and popular model guns for rent and for purchase. Also, a well-​stocked parts and accessories shop. I picked up a t-​shirt.

We LOVE Shady Oaks! BEST indoor range I’ve ever been to. The facility is very clean, safe and inviting. I like the fact that the actual range is in a separate building from where you check in. They have a nice selection of firearms for rental and purchase and their prices aren’t bad either. There are tables and chairs if you need to wait for a lane and their restrooms are nice and clean too.
As soon as you walk into the range, you’ll notice 3 things right away: (1) it’s well-​lit; (2) it’s not stuffy or warm because the air filtration system is so good; and (3) the acoustics are good so it’s not too loud. The lanes are spacious unlike Red’s and the lane dividers have ballistic glass which makes you feel more safe. The RSOs (Range Safety Officers) are awesome! They’re very friendly, always keeping a close on everything going on and are very willing to instruct and give pointers. If you save your shells, they’ll help you collect them too. Shooting has become a real passion of mine and the RSOs and instructors at Shady Oaks are a HUGE part of the reason why.
You will see first-​hand how nice this facility is and I’m sure anybody would come here as a first choice to shoot. The amazing staff is really what did it for us though. I don’t care how nice your facility is… if it’s run by a bunch of unfriendly jerks that don’t welcome you, screw it. Shady Oaks, however, has the best range AND staff. Everyone has been so friendly, so inviting, and so cool. It really takes our shooting experience to another level. We have so much fun talking with the staff whether it’s on the range or in the lobby. Over the past 2 months, Shady Oaks has become like a second home and family to us. For those of you who think Shady Oaks is a bit pricey compared to others, it’s well worth it! I can’t rave enough about this place!

Since my wife and I became members in May of this year, SOGR has become family to us. We know every employees by name and on a personal level. Because of the membership, my wife has become an avid shooter and has taken her CHL class, Advanced Defense Training and private lessons.
During the past 3 months, each member of SOGR has become a close friend/​family to us. Jim has been an amazing manager, providing us endless help purchasing firearms and taking care of our close friends on their first visit. Victoria and Michelle have been a great face of the range and are always friendly to get you in and out as quickly as possible. You’ll see they are genuine and kind folks.
Range Safety Officers/​Fire Arms instructors are the true gem here at SOGR. Carson, Ed, Mark, Mike (tenured) & Mike (new), Cooper and Tracy are always friendly to help — which is not easy to find in most gun ranges. You rarely have RSOs that are willing to provide the safest environment to shoot AND ensure you have great time in the process. Because at the end of the day, you want 2 simple things from a gun range. Safety and an enjoyable experience.
To take safety to the next level, SOGR is equippped with ballistic glass between the lanes in case something goes wrong. However, I see very low chance of this happening but if it does, there’s the extra layer of protection.
There’s plenty of space for a second person to guide a new shooter if and when required.
However, the most valuable safety feature SOGR offer are the RSOs with «hawk eye» vision with high RSO to shooter ratio compared to other ranges. On our first visit, our RSO, Carson gave us feedback on our shooting from 6 – 7 lanes away which my wife and I were astonished. It showed us how much awareness the RSO’s had enforcing safety rules but we never felt it was overwhelming and intimidating. They are NOT legalistic on how they manage their range allowing the RSOs to assess each person’s proficiency before they let you know what you can and should not do.
Carson, Ed and Mark are bada$$ shooters we’ve met and have spent the most time training and interacting with. In fact, I have firsthand experience of their shooting. Simply AMAZING!!.
My wife raves about her training with them and vow to take more in the future.
Vince the owner has always been very professional and friendly with us and I’m sure everyone feels the same. The overall feel and vibe that we love so much goes to Vince and his leadership of management. He has engaged employees which ultimately lead to world-​class customer experience.
You really can’t get a better experience at any other gun range. I understand the cost is a bit higher but you’re getting a far better overall experience. Membership is truly worth considering.
The only problem is… my wife has gone gun-​crazy and I am having to buy obscene amount of ammo every month…

So, everyone here is delightful, one. Vince the owner is always down to chat, and everyone is generally awesome and here to assist /​train /​help maximize enjoyment and safety. I really liked the range officers when my group went.
The facilities are super clean, acoustics are good for indoor, air filters are running, all equipment working and high tech. Plus, the lane dividers are high strength clear ABS or something but this helps enable your buddies to film you on their iphone so you can stoke your instagram ego. I mean, critique your form. Yeah. that’s it.
Also, the ammo is cheap, their gun rentals are fantastic and cheap, and did I mention it was clean safe and pleasant?

Great people and great range. Finally we have an option in Leander that doesn’t include being treated like crap.

Nice staff. Great fun selection for rentals. Cost us about $ 60 each for 8 people on 4 lanes for an hour. They through in the instructor for free since we had some first timers. Clean and nice facility. Would shoot again!
We shot at Beretta 9 mm, an AR-​15, a combat shotgun, a Magnum 44.

Very nice range. This was my time visiting & do plan on going back. The staff was very friendly and helpful. One of the staff (retired Air Force) gave us some good advice on holding the gun and my shot was 100% better than it was when I walked in the door. I was doing it all wrong lol.
The building is clean and they go over everything with you so it made the visit inviting. Yes I will definitely be going back

This gun range is so awesome. While the staff could try a smile now and then, the facilities are clean, the indoor range is really built and the ladies bathrooms look like they belong in a nice hotel.
I know yall are chuckling about me reviewing restrooms at a gun range, but these things matter especially to women.
I’ll be shooting here regularly once my schedule becomes a bit more predictable. Defenitely worth driving out a but further for.

I’ve been to many of the shooting ranges throughout the Austin area, and I can assuredly say that this is the nicest one around. The place is organized and spotless. There’s plenty of staff around to help and offer advice when needed.
The range is not gigantic like some of the others around, but it is maintained professionally and designed extremely well to keep noise and reverberation to a minimum. Both bays next to me were being used by shooters with high-​powered rifles and the reduced noise level was impressive taking into consideration places likes Red’s Shooting Range where your ears hurt even with protection on.
After my wife and I finished shooting we went into the main lobby where Vince (owner) keeps his rental equipment and new items for sale. I spent a good 30 minutes talking with him and discussing compact carry handguns. He was very knowledgeable and his prices for new equipment, and even ammo, were comparable or better than the big box stores around town. Next time we go I’m just buying my ammo there, and I’ll likely buy my next compact from him.
All in all this place was quite impressive! If you live nearby and want a great range to go to regularly, then this is the place, especially if you’re used to places like Red’s. They even have a few different ladies only events every week for beginners, and those that want to generally improve, that my wife is planning to start attending now.
