History

Established in 1968.

The Longbranch Restaurant opened in 1968 with a Western theme. The owners sensed a need for additional restaurants in Cedar Rapids and built The Longbranch with the intention of leasing the restaurant. When the lease backed out they ended up running the restaurant. The event and convention facility was added three years later. In 1978 a 54 unit hotel was added with an additional 42 unit hotel building added seven years later also housing an indoor pool, whirlpool and dry sauna. Extensive remodeling has been done on the entire facility.

Meet the Business Owner

Vince D.

Business Owner

Vince and Mary Ellen De Long conceived the idea for a Western themed restaurant. Vince, an engineer by trade did much of the construction work and Mary Ellen’s artistic talent provided the murals for the old west theme found in the original buildings. Their four sons provided construction help on the project. Vince and Mary Ellen are now deceased but The Best Western Longbranch Hotel, Restaurant and Conventions center remains locally owned and operated and is run by their four sons.
