Cedar Rapids Marriott

If you’re new to this neck of the woods, Cedar Rapids is a small town.
Sometimes, in small towns, customer service leaves a lot to be desired.
I’ve been Marriott platinum for 11 years, and it’s the first time someone slapped an honor bar paper in front of me at the concierge lounge with my one drink circled. (Especially surprising when the next night another guest chuckled to the same Marriott employee he had a lot of drinks last night and he didn’t pay for any of them and they both laughed and laughed and laughed about it-​must have been really funny).
When I got back to my room today, the door to my room was propped open. I’m assuming it was housekeeping just forgot to shut it, instead of housekeepers leaving doors open for perverts to put in cameras to make extra cash. You can do better, Marriott.
The room was dated, but well cared for. I had no complaints other than the makeup left on the shower curtain that wasn’t left by me.

One of the biggest dumps I have stayed in at this price point and he service is horrible on top of it. They guy who is «at your service «has MAJOR attitude and treated me like I was a piece of dirt. Stay away. There are PLENTY of other choices in the area. And the concierge lounge stops serving food at 8pm. Wow.

This place is trash. It is old, outdated, and in serious need of a facelift. My first thought when I walked in was, this looks like the marriot where they send all of the old marriot furnishings furnishings to die. The elevators take about 5 minutes to open, the spinning door at the entrance stops spinning with you in it and freezes completely when you touch it. Parking is minimal at best. I tried to get plastic silverware from the front desk and was told no, when I asked f I might be able to grab some from the bar or restaurant I was told I don’t know. I took 2 rolls of silverware off of a dining table and was then followed to the elevator by a staff member as if I was stealing the crown jewels. The mini fridge in the room is more of a mini freezer. They don’t offer HD television even though they have HD television’s, so watching football is worthless. They will sell you a bottle of Jim beam for 140 dollars, without a glass. Bottle of water in the room is 4 dollars. Bathroom wasn’t clean when we got here, but worse than that it has no fan. The positive was the early check in, and also the woman that my wife talked to while booking the room. She earned this place the 1 star I’m giving them, if it wasn’t for her I’d be trying to find a way to give this place negative 5. I’m only stuck for one more day, thankfully.

Was here to a corporate meeting and it was excellent. But that was 10 years ago. Maybe some slipping and sliding since then. But the rooms and facility were 5 Star for the town then.

Amazing customer service and friendly staff! Love staying here while on business. Food at the restaurant is good and bar service is great!

Old, tired and dated. The front desk staff and head housekeeper were great but the room was unsatisfactory, not real clean mattresses and they were old and tired. Stayed only one night. Bar restaurant staff weren’t to friendly. Felt like I was bothering them if I had a request even though they kinda smiled. Grilled Chicken salad was ok. Next night had nachos with fresh everything but smothered in a creamy «cheese chicken sauce» tasted like cream of chicken soup. Melted cheddar would’ve been better. Restaurant is in the open atrium. Disappointing, certainly not the Marriott I know although had a lot of business travelers staying. Maybe for the points.

Not impressed, food is fair. Buffets are terrible. Service is poor at best and it’s not cheap. Plenty of better choices near by.

I am giving 4 stars for the service but would rate the accommodations as a 3.
I have stayed here a couple of times on business travel. The accommodations are ok but the service is terrific. Everyone in the staff is very accommodating and friendly. They offer a shuttle service which is great, especially if you don’t want tho drive in the snow/​ice. Darryl was the shuttle driver upon my arrival from the airport and provided alot of info on the area. Thanks Darryl for the exceptional service!
One word of caution on the location of the room.. do not stay in the room next the the service elevator. This visit I am in room 609 and I continually hear the elevator running and staff coming in and out of the area with their carts hitting the walls or door.

Anytime I’m in Cedar Rapids, this is my go to place.

Bare bones hotel, with bare bones rooms. Everything is clean yet out of date. Water pressure is nearly non-​existent and as a 6’1″ guy I have to crouch down a foot just to get my head under the shower head. The gym looks decent as does the pool. Tv quality is poor and lacks any good programming like hbo. Customer service has been decent though not particularly good or bad.

Nice chain hotel, great customer service and concierge room for breakfast and happy hour is well stocked and efficient. Overall this is where I always stay when I visit Cedar Rapids. The shuttle is always on time for me but my coworker was picked up after he called when his flight landed. He had to wait an hour and a half and call the hotel to follow up. They were shocked that the driver didn’t get him. Pillows are lame!!! They have two different sizes one too small and one too big. Rooms are quite but I usually need to see my chiropractor after a visit because of sleeping in the uncomfortable room.

As far as Marriotts go, not the fanciest, newest, or most up to date property. But they have one thing going for them that not all Marriott locations can say… namely, they have great service!
I found their staff helpful, accommodating and genuine. I enjoyed a nice upgrade to a boardroom style room, which was great but not good if you want to get some laptop work done. Sitting at the boardroom table, there are no outlets in easy distance.
Luckily, a quick call to the front desk got me the extension cord needed to plug in and keep working. Thanks for a great stay Marriott!

This is my 3^rd stay in the last 3 months at the Marriott in Cedar Rapids.
Pros: Friendly staff, only 20 min from CID airport, good gym
Cons: very dated décor and rooms, food average at best
This hotel really needs a remodel. I think it might have been an old Embassy Suites (it has a big atrium in the center). Furniture in rooms seems very old compared to most Marriott’s I’ve stayed at. TVs are HD flat screens which was nice!

Ouch! They quoted me one rate. I check in and they tell me the same rate I got on the phone. I check out and guess what? Yup, different rate. Ouch. Then to top it off they initially gave me the wrong kind of room. Oh yeah, want a coffee? That’ll be $ 3.50 for a baby cup to go. If they adjust it I’ll revise.
Buh bye. I’ll stay at the holiday inn next door from now on.

My brother had his reception here and it was not a flawless process by any means. They have about 7 rooms for events and almost all of them were full so there was people everywhere. One groups cocktail hours was in the lobby which was awkward that you had to walk through it to get to other areas of the hotel.
They were also host a high school baseball tournament, which lead the hotel to being sold out. There was not a lot of space to park each night and it took at least 3 rounds to find a spot.
Very strange to me was there was not a bar package available for the wedding, you could have a cash bar or a tab bar and they expensive for any standard exceptionally expensive for Cedar Rapids.
The staff was all very nice and accommodating and even emailed me when I asked about early check in.
All and all the rooms where standard Marriott, and the hotel is pretty close to food and other things on Collins.

Marriotts are starting to bum me out. I’ve had them as my «hotel of choice» for quite some time, but the corporation is stiffing the people who stay at its higher end properties, like the Marriott hotels. Almost all Marriott Courtyards I stay in have re-​done rooms, marble bathrooms and often big, flat-​screen TVs… this Marriott IS your grandma’s Marriott! The fake speckled paint on the ancient wooden furniture looks like an old lady’s house. It galls me that they charge the rates that they do, and THEN nab you for the $ 9.95/day internet fee when almost everywhere else I stay doesn’t. The only upside is the concierge lounge, which isn’t open most of the time anymore. I think I’ll find me a new hotel chain and if you are in Cedar Rapids, there are probably better choices.
