Specialties
LAVA specializes in Tapas, Seafood, & Steak.
History
Established in 2012.
LAVA was established in 2012 by local restaurant owner, Tony Kassouf. After a great response from his other fusion venue, Cibo (Meditteranean & American), Tony jumped at the chance to work with new flavors. LAVA’s Latin-Asian Fusion menu heavily consists of Tapas (small and savory dishes originated from Spain), as well as a unique assortment of lunch, dinner, and dessert items (prepared by our in-house Pastry Chef).
Meet the Business Owner
Tony K.
Business Owner
My family has been in the restaurant business for over 30 years. And my first restaurant, American Skillet, has been serving traditional Midwestern breakfast and lunch since 1994. American Skillet is a small breakfast diner located on the NW side of Cedar Rapids on Johnson Ave., off of Edgewood Road.
Because of demand from our NW side customers, the time came in 2005 to open a venue on the other side of town. My mother, Lidia, and I moved our work to the new location in Marion, and my father Naim, then working in construction, took over the diner. And it wasn’t long before the new American Skillet soon evolved into an upscale restaurant and lounge called Cibo Fusion, with LAVA following in early 2012.
We strive to continue to reinvent ourselves, as well as make substantial contributions to the local community, making it a priority to buy local and keep menu costs down. We greatly appreciate all of our loyal patrons throughout the years, and look forward to meeting many more.
