Big Tool Box

No matter what I need, The Big Tool Box is always on point. From the gorgeous topiary setting during the summer to renting a truck or having a key made they make you feel like you are their only priority. Two weeks ago we took the snowblower in to be checked and didn’t really look over the work done as we trusted it would be done right. Today, when hitting the driveway we noticed that not only did the engine start before the string was pulled all the way out, but was running better than it ever had. Two years ago when the shoot broke we simply put it up to the highest setting and screwed it in place. Today we looked down and saw a completely new, adjustable, multiple setting shoot. They fixed the engine and replaced with a John Deere shoot for a total of $ 113 when we only asked them to look at the engine. It’s better than brand new and no one at The Big Tool Box even brought attention to the new features. It’s wonderful to know that customer service is a priority and they would do this for everyone simply to know it was a job well done and not for the accolades from the customer. Well done.

I’ve used the sprinkler, tool rental, lawnmower and hardware section of this place. Great customer service and knowledge staff.
The hardware section is just parts and pieces and tools to make small repairs or small projects. If you want lumber, sinks and faucets, got to one of the big stores. Always plenty of staff to help you find what you need.
Tool rental, I rented a appliance dolly. I also filled 4 propane tanks. Nice and quick service.
Lawnmower shop, I had a mower blade sharpened, it took just a few minutes. I also had the guys drill a hole in a bolt so I could attach a cotter pin, we ended up talking about fast cars and no shop charge. Really nice folks behind the counter.
The sprinkler crew are also great. They hooked me up with the parts for my back flow valve. They also got the parts for the sprinkler valves but I wasn’t able to fix them myself. So I went back in and got a recommendation for some sprinkler shops. I hired one, he ended up being excellent.
Overall, what a gem. Places like this don’t pop up in new areas, its another charming benefit to living in South Denver.

Complete waste of time with rude employee in the rental department.
Called ahead and inquired about renting an auger. Employee on the phone confirmed they had a 1-​person auger in the store, ready and available for renting.
Showed up, went into the rental area, and starting getting our order placed with a nice young guy. Suddenly, an older employee came out of the back and demanded «Hey, what are you doing?» to the kid. He responded «renting them the 1-​person auger». He responded «It’s broken don’t rent it».
We said we had called down not even 20 minutes before, and were told it was available. He scoffed, rolled his eyes, and responded «the shaft is broken, you can’t rent it», turned on his heel and walked away.
Thanks for wasting our time. But do not fret, we will never be back, and you will never have to deal with a couple customers ever again.

I love this place! Such a nicer alternative to the national chains of big box, mega home stores — yet they always seem to have everything I need. Prices are competitive, sometimes cheaper. Always a friendly, helpful staff too. Go check ‘em out if you haven’t already. You’ll be surprised. Great rental wing too, located downstairs.

I’ve been here a handful of times over the years, but now that I live in this area I’ve found them to be my go-​to hardware store.
They don’t have the lumber and things that home depot has, but they also have way more selection than a regular Ace has. They’ve struck the balance between being *too* boxy vs. a smaller store. They’ve had everything I’ve needed when I needed it. Sold.

New house, new projects. Lately I feel like we are visiting every Lowes, Home Depot, Ace and Big Tool Box in the Denver Metro Area!!! For some reason I just really like this store. It is pretty small (I mean compared to a Home Depot) and it is really packed with stuff, but they have helpful associates to help you find what you need. Plus thy have a really nice garden section. Sometimes it is nice to skip the huge home stores and pop into a smaller one and get more personalized attention.

Friendly small shop atmosphere. The repair shop located downstairs fixes small engines, window screens, lawnmowers, and snowblowers.
Homedepot might be a bit cheaper but support your local business and the high school kids employed here knows more than you think!

This store is way better than those big home improvement chains. Everyone that works there is always ready to help us find what we’re looking for. We bought our bird feeder here and continue to buy our bird feed. We support this business by buying our tools, paint, etc. here. Definitely sign up for their rewards program.

Love this place. It’s my go to when I want to browse an actual neighborhood hardware store. The garden center is great, terrific options and a really fun selection of items that leaves me more excited than anything from Lowe’s or HD. Is the service a tad crusty, cashiers young an not big on eye contact? Sure. But if you know what you’re doing and looking for, this is the place for you. (Great BBQ selection btw). I get propane here in the summer and our Xmas tree in the winter. What’s not to love?

Fabulous place for flowers, veget ables, herbs and other beautiful patio items.
They are so helpful and Cindy knows the answer to so many questions I have.
You can use your ACE rewards card and also they give a 5% discount for
military and veterans with ID. We have rented rototilers here, bought large
bags of bark, stones for the garden etc etc. Just love this place.

These guys were so fair with their pricing with repairing my lawnmower. I didn’t expect that low of price. My Deere runs like a Deere now.

Rented a «Budget» truck from these guys when Uhaul failed to honor a reservation; this team went above and beyond expectations and did in record time (fast)…all with a good attitude and a couple of laughs, much appreciated!

This hardware store is right down the street from my house so I tend to run up there often. The staff is extremely friendly and very knowledgeable. They are always helpful and willing to talk you through things. They have an awesome sprinkler center but the rest of the store leaves some to be desired. There is not much variety and it tends to be more expensive. it is great for here and there but if I have big shopping to do then I still go to Home Depot.

Big Tool Box is my go to place for tough to find items. The place reminds me of the old time full service hardware store that my Dad & I went to when I was growing up. They are basically an Ace Hardware on steroids and this classic store is far more comprehensive than the newer Ace at Village Center in Highlands Ranch.
Big Tool Box has all kinds of stuff tucked away in there and the majority of the staff is very knowledgeable. On more than a dozen occasions they have been able show me how to fix something I was sure I would have to end up replacing because they knew all about what I had and stocked the parts to repair it. You just don’t find anyone that can do that for you at a big box store.
Whether its tools, lawn equipment, sprinkler systems, plants, faucets, nuts & bolts, fish for your pond or anything else hardware you can imagine Big Tool Box probably has it. They even have a small engine repair shop and full service rental center.

Meh. I have loved this place for nearly 20 years. But after repeatedly receiving poor service when I am there without my husband, they have officially lost a customer. I went in to rent a tile saw and ended up leaving with nothing. The general hardware guys have been fabulous. But other than that I get a «where is your husband» attitude from people. There are other local options.

Admittedly, I think I just like saying «Big Tool Box».
It’s basically the «anti-​big box store». It’s more like an upgraded Ace Hardware or mom n’ pop hardware store. While they won’t have an «indoor lumber yard» or gigantic appliances, BTB has all the stuff you need to actually do work around your house, year-​round– garden equipment, tools, seed n’ sod, electrical stuff and the best sprinkler parts selection in the Denver are (around back in their basement). They also offer truck rental through Budget Rental, which is more affordable than U-​Haul or other services.
They’re attached to «Highlands Garden Center», a wonderfully lush and impressive nursery/​garden center. After walking through this section for a few minutes, you’ll be inspired to dig up and re-​do SOMETHING in your backyard. For instance, after spending a few minutes here, I thought to myself: «hey…maybe it’s time to install a koi pond? Or a stone fountain with a bunny on it?!» But I stuck to the gameplan and purchased the landscaping bark that brought me there.

It’s a bit expensive, but oftentimes you can get things here that Home Depot or Lowe’s won’t have. Great staff as well.

Am I driving all the way out to Bell Plumbing who chose to move to Aurora? Oh wait!!! Big Tool Box is just down the street. Yep… they had what I needed and the gentleman who helped knew EXACTLY what he was talking about.
And the cool thing… they’re attached to Highlands Garden Center!!! (My new favorite garden center /​nursery)!!!
Forget Home Depot, Forget Lowes!!! These guys know their stuff!!!

Finally I’ve found a hardware store that IS what I think it SHOULD be. After going to Lowe’s and Home Depot to find one silly O Ring for my sprinkler system (and being told they don’t sell individual O rings, but I could buy a $ 30 water pressure system to get the o ring off of) I was told by a Home Depot worker that The Big Tool Box would have my sought after o ring.
I’d never been to The Big Tool Box before, so I didn’t know what to expect. Well, Home Depot and Lowe’s have just lost a customer! This place had very helpful, kind people working there. They had my o rings for $ 0.59! They also had some solar lights my dad was looking for and couldn’t find at the other two big box retailers.
Their lawn mowers were exactly the same price as the other two places, but the employees actually KNEW something about them and helped me load it. The garden center was beautiful and I could have easily spent two paychecks there, but I didn’t.
I’m excited to have a place to go when I need home and garden type stuff. Yippee!!! Even my dad told the cashier (who was super nice by the way), «Your store is so much better than Home Depot.» You would have thought he just told her he loved her – it made her day – she was so thankful.
