I actually chose to come to Cerritos Dental Surgery solely because of the amazing reviews and after meeting the front desk staff, dental assistants, and Dr. Hofkes himself, I couldn’t agree more! The clinic itself is modern, clean, welcoming, and I instantly had a good feeling walking in. I usually become extremely tense and nervous when it comes to dental procedures, but after my first consult, I felt very welcome with the hospitality and the staff. Dr. Hofkes is very approachable, friendly, and I honestly felt very comfortable after meeting him. I had four wisdom teeth extracted within 40 minutes and after the first day, I’m completely pain free! It was a quick and painless procedure. All I felt was a bit of pressure, but watching Netflix helped take my mind off of it. All in all it was a great experience and I highly recommend this clinic to anyone!

I would highly recommend Cerritos Dental Implant. I traveled more than an hour to this place and it is worth the trip! The receptionists are very nice and helpful; they make you feel welcomed! Dentist Yang are very professional! He also taught us how to keep teeth cleaned daily!

Had my wisdom teeth removed today by Dr. Shawn I have to say he’s amazing. The procedure over all took less than an hour! The place is very clean and the staff friendly. Would definitely recommend to a friend.

My first review goes to Dr. Shawn Hofkes and his staff at Cerritos Dental Surgery. I was always scared of meeting new doctors or dentists because I dont know how comfortable I will be with them. But everyone at this place made me feel welcomed and helped me as if I had been going there for years! It really helps out scared patients like me when you feel like you are in good hands
I went in for my wisdom tooth. Dr. Hofkes discussed options with me, which I really appreciate because I can tell how sincere he was to help me. The level of hospitality at this place is beyond A+.
The actual procedure was not as terrifying as I thought it would be. Dr. Hofkes asked me to pick something that I want to watch on Netflix. The closed captioning was on so even though they’re working on you, you could still understand what you’re watching (What a brilliant idea!). My wisdom tooth was extracted at least 15 minutes in (est. time) to the CSI: NY episode that I picked.
The service after the procedure is AMAZING. Anytime I had a question, they’re always a phone call away and are willing to answer any questions. Kudos to Ali for her cheerful attitude and willingness to help patients like me who call in for further questions

I have never written a review on Unilocal but I had to because I had an excellent experience with Cerritos Dental Surgery and more so with Dr. Shawn, his assistant Lori, office manager Dione and his dental hygienist Rebecca. I have not been to a dentist in 10 years and I knew I had to go but my earlier bad experienced had me procrastinating on it. Also I have no tolerance to pain and we all know how dental work can be very painful. I reviewed a lot of dentist in my area and neighboring area and I noticed that dr Shawn’s practice had excellent reviews so I made an appt for consultation.
That’s the first time I met the office manager Dione and Dr. Shawn and I got my x rays done. I am no expert at the latest technology in dental field but it looked like they had the latest equipment and technology to best take care of their patients. I was very glad to see how Dr. Shawn came in to explain how the condition of my teeth were and what his recommendations were for the extractions and root canal but yet he was not pushy at all. I did a very thorough deep cleaning the same day and their hygienist Rebecca was very patient and gentle and did a very detailed cleaning for me. I had a lot of work so she spend 1 hour cleaning 1 side of my teeth and accommodated me the same day few hours later to do my other side. I had told them that I have 2 small children and I am happy that they accommodated my needs and scheduled me in.
I came back for 2 wisdom tooth extractions and again was very happy with the experience. I was quit nervous and did not sleep much the previous night but my experience was nowhere near what I had imagined. Dr. Shawn and his assistant Lori were very assuring that it would be quick and painless and it was. They don’t overbook their schedule so I never felt rushed, even the office manager Dione kept assuring me that the it would be painless and quick. They do offer extra options if you have the money to pay like oral pill and laughing gas but I did not choose any and yet my discomfort was a 2 out of 10.
I will definitely be back at their office for all my dental needs and will genuinely recommend it to my family and friends. Very pleaded with the whole experience. This business will definitely grow and flourish a lot coz they genuinely care.

Everything about the procedure was explained in detail in a very kind, yet professional way! Dr. Shawn extracted my last two wisdom teeth. He was most gentle and very concerned about any discomfort because I’m allergic to novocaine, so what he uses narrows his window of opportunity, but he got the job done with plenty of time to spare… that’s not only a consummate professional, but a kind and caring person as well! I came here couple times and the place is awesome. I will definitely come back. Friendly staff and they have a very clean and modern facility. I recommend this place to anyone. Top notch work at a good pricing. If your in Cerritos or near by cities go there. Yay!

I found this place once I Googled emergency dentist, I was in desperate need of some professional work because of the pain my wisdom teeth were giving me. My insurance did not cover me so it was out of my pocket but they sure worked with me to figure it out. Over all great service and everyone made me feel very comfortable!

My dentist, Dr. Sarah Cupino, referred me to Dr. Hofkes to get my wisdom teeth extracted and it was a very positive experience.
Cerritos Dental Surgery is fairly new and their office is super nice and clean. Jeannette at the front desk was so helpful and thorough. I had a lot of questions pre-​extraction and she was able to answer my questions and explained everything to me.
Dr. Hofkes is great. He’s really nice and knows what he’s doing. He lets you watch whatever you want on Netflix during the extraction. I chose the local anesthesia because quite frankly it was the most affordable. They said even with the best insurance, anything more than local anesthesia is paid out of pocket up to $ 500 so I saved my wallet from paying a pretty penny and I passed. My procedure took all but 5 minutes anyway. Literally. (Partly because I only got my bottom teeth pulled and they were already half-​way grown). It was a quick and painless experience. With the local anesthesia you mainly just feel pressure; not necessarily pain.
Dr. Hofkes prescribed me Norco and gave me a strong version of Motrin. I didn’t need the Norco during my recovery period and I only used two Motrin. I must have a strong aversion to pain.
Anyway, I highly recommend Cerritos Dental Surgery. They are awesome.

Dr. Shawn Hofkes is amazing! Not only appealing by his beautiful office, but appealing in the way he and his staff rendered their services to me the minute I walked in. Dr. Hofkes was gentle and extremely considerate of needs and my well being throughout the operation, his staff was just as professional and attentive. As I’m sitting in bed, feeling super numb after my boyfriend picked up a lovely prescription of Norco… I’m pretty happy my two pain-​in-​the-​ass wisdom teeth are FINALLY OUT!
I had my first consultation at Kenneth Cho dentistry (in La Habra), where their facility was just as nice, but I had a change of heart to go to a different place where my mom had suggested. Cerritos Dental Surgery wasn’t on my list until my mom’s reference fell through due to busy schedules so I went on Unilocal to look at oral surgeons who did extractions… and found CDS!
Upon reviewing the wisdom extraction feedbacks from people who got their wisdom molars/​teeth pulled from Dr. Hofkes, I got a good gut feeling about him. I ended up calling past their office time yesterday night around 6:15 PM, and Dion (one of the staff) picked up and arranged a schedule for me the very next day! I was already in so much pain because my right jaw was swollen, gum was chewed up due to accidental biting (which caused more swelling), and my nasty toothache.
I was looking forward to my appointment all day today and finally found my way into their lobby. (Second floor, on the corner inside the Gen BBQ plaza, above the North Shore Poke Co.) I was greeted by the receptionist and signed paperwork. I sat down inside the surgery room as I waited for Dr. Hofkes to enter and consult with me about the surgery I was about to have. Looking at my x-​ray, he saw that my bottom molars were rooted pretty badly and my gums were swollen from the infection. I told him I was ready to go with surgery after asking him a string of general questions, and found him to be really easy-​going! His personality was pretty laid-​back so I found my anxiety waning after just talking to him for a few minutes! :)
He prepped for surgery and as he does for all his patients, he let me choose a TV show on Netflix. I ended up choosing Narcos after suggesting it to him that it was a good show. A lot of drug cartel lingo and gunshots started to blare, so not sure if that was a good choice… Netflix wasn’t working initially so he spent a good moment trying to get it to work, JUST so that I could relax and concentrate on that! What a good guy.
I had chosen local anesthesia, but he also had a variety of other anesthetics to choose from, including laughing gas (nitrous oxide), and oral sedation (swallow a pill and you’re out). He gave me 4 shots, which were slightly a pinch but if you focus on something else and close your eyes, it’ll start to numb right away! Halfway through the surgery, I felt some discomfort of a certain area where the numbing wasn’t fully covered so I alerted him and his kind wing-​woman to re-​insert another shot of the good stuff. They totally got me and he verbally confirmed saying «Alright, don’t worry, I’ll give you another round!» So another shot went in and I was good. I had my headphones on so I could drown out the sounds of them working on my teeth and it really helped.
To be honest, I HATE the dentist visits, but with this one. it was pretty smooth. I’m so glad I found Cerritos Dental Surgery on Unilocal!Thank you to Dr. Hofkes and his amazing team. You guys were very attentive pre-​op and post-​op. gave me a sufficient amount of gauze to work with for the full 24 hours, and gave me great instructions. I have a follow-​up in 2 weeks so I’m ready to meet them up to have them check on my post-​op progress.
I highly recommend them for wisdom teeth extraction procedures. Thanks again guys!

This dentist violated California State licensing rules in his practice.
I went to this doctor for a consultation with my ex-​wife on the same day. my ex-​wife decided to have four crowns redone because she had them done in China before and wasn’t properly done, because her English is bad I helped to translate and sat in the procedure room with her on each of our visits, I also paid for her procedure on my credit, so everything I say here is a first hand account.
Dr Shawn Hofkes broke the law by having his dental assistant remove permanent crowns which is illegal in the state of California. Probably sensing I was a bit surprised he was walking around while his assistant was working on my ex-​wife, he explained to me the DA has the highest level of DA certification and she was a dentist in Philippines before. Things quickly went south and it took 3 – 4 hrs before the dental assistant was able to remove all four crowns. There were quiet a few times the dentist was at the front desk answering phones when his assistant was working on my ex-​wife.
When I complained later that he should not have dental assistant remove permanent crown which took 3 – 4 hours, the dentist emailed me and assured me that what he did was legal, which is a lie because California State Dental board rule section 1085 specifically states: a dental assistant may not perform functions such as remove permanent crowns which represents the practice of dentistry or requires the knowledge, skill and training of a licensed dentist.
I accompanied my ex-​wife again to help her translate when she go to have the permanent crowns put on, the dentist asked both me and my ex-​wife to sign a document to approve the color, shape of the new crown in the middle of the procedure. Not wanting to walk out the room with no teeth, both of us had no choice but to sign it.
The dentist also went out of his way to get my review deleted of Unilocal twice already, I had to repost my review.
This office has only been opened for a few months, most time I was in the office there was nobody else in there except the dentist and two of his assistants, He may charge a little less, but it’s not worth it.
This dentist clearly solicits reviews to give him a unfair competitive edge and mislead would be patients. More than half of the reviews are left by people with only made 1 to 2 reviews. Just look around similar dentists on Unilocal.Nobody have this many 5 star reviews in 10 months. He is just dishonest in many ways.
Do your own research, I do not recommend this dentist.

I first went to another dentist and they told me that I had a lot of cavities and that I needed to get a few root canals before they spread to my nerves. I wanted a second opinion hoping I wouldn’t need them being that all operations would be paid out of my own pocket. I got referred to Dr. Hofkes and heard some good things so I wanted to stop by and give him a chance.
When I got there, Dr. Hofkes and his staff made me feel very comfortable with the whole process from the beginning. I had a lot of questions that I felt anyone would eventually get annoyed but Lorie was very patient with me and was very informative with everything I needed to know. Turns out I just needed fillings which made my expenses a lot cheaper. I decided to give them a go for their honesty and customer service.
Thanks guys, you guys deserve more than 5 stars. Best part is that it didn’t even hurt!

My mother had been having pain for a while now. We decided to visit Dr. Shawn Hofkes after a very high reccomendation from a family member who visited him a few months ago for wisdom teeth extraction.
The office:
Very convenient location right off the 605. The office is on the 2^nd floor of a large shopping center. Plenty of parking… we parked in the shade because it was hot! The office itself had a very calming atmosphere. The receptionist was super friendly and welcoming.
The Doc:
Big genuine smile on his face as soon as he walked up to greet us. Dude he is tall! Lol. Anywhoo… He made my mom feel comfortable even though she didn’t speak any English. She got a really cool panaramic xray done by Laurie, a very sweet dental assistant. We told him about my mom’s pain and possible tooth infection. He looked at the xray and took the time to answer our questions and explain to us all the problems he could see, while i tried to translate.
I felt bad for him becuase my mom has some pretty gnarly teeth! (I can say that because she wont be able to read this) Unfortunately, she needed 2 teeth out asap due to infection.
The procedure:
You guys, no BS, both teeth came out so fast she barely got through the first scene of Shanghai Noon! (BTW in the surgery room there is a TV! With Netflix! And u get to choose what you want to see!) He is a pro! I am still in shock…
My mom with her horrible teeth have been to a number of dentists over the years for extractions, bridges, crowns, root canals… you name it. She said hands down the best dentist she has ever been to is Dr. Hofkes. He is kind, gentle, patient and understanding… everything you could ever wish for in a doctor. He really really cares! My mom loves him! Needless to say, Dr. Hofkes is the only dentist she will see from now on.
We are truly very thankful for such an amazing experience with Dr. Hofkes and his lovely staff. See you all soon!

I am really afraid of the dentist, but needed to see one really bad. I was referred to dr. Hofkes and I wasn’t disappointed. Came here to get my wisdom teeth extracted and they made feel so comfortable. Thank you so much dr. Hofkes and staff for helping me get over my fears.

A couple weeks ago I had a dental implant place on my front tooth area due to a freak accident at a music festival where I ended up cracking one of my roots! Dr. Hofkes and his staff assured me they would fix it with ease. They took an awesome 3D xray and showed me what was going on.
I currently feel great and the area is completely healing and I have a new tooth!
Dr. Hofkes was super friendly, professional, and he reiterated everything to me.
The actual procedure went super smooth. They gave me all my medicines and off I went.

I recently switched to a dentist who referred me to Dr. Shawn Hofkes for a root canal that she could not perform herself due to the difficult angle of the tooth and the lack of tools to do so.
Normally I dread going to the dentist. However this experience changed my mind. The staff is welcoming and friendly the moment you walk in the door.
I was nervous about the root canal because I have never had one before, but Dr. Shawn Hofkes shown me the process before the procedure which greatly calmed my nerves.
A great experience for me was when one of the staff members noticed my broken retainer. I’ve been bugging my orthodontist about it only for him to tell me that it was fine and when I called my orthodontist for an appointment to look at it after another piece broke off, they hung up on me. The staff at Cerritos took the time to actually make me another retainer that feels even more comfortable from when I first received one from my orthodontist.
Usually I get some sort of harsh criticism from the dentist but I haven’t had them tell me anything that discouraged me from going back to the dentist.

Dr. Shawn Hofkes and his staff is THE BEST OF THE BEST! I truly cannot say enough about Dr. Hofkes! His «bedside manner» is second to none — kind, compassionate, funny, caring, and extremely HONEST! And very reasonable prices. The office staff is very helpful and gentle to my needs. They will make sure you are comfortable in every way. I’m so grateful I found them. He’s an expert of the highest order. The office atmosphere décor is so beautiful and modern, it makes you feel calm and relax as if your in spa. It helps when your about to have oral surgery. Do yourself a favor and go to Dr. Hofkes’s office for all your oral surgery or dental work. You will be very glad you did!

I’ve been suffering with wisdom tooth pain and I couldn’t get an appointment sooner elsewhere. To my surprise they were able to take me in the same day I called. There prices are reasonable with excellent patient care.
The office us really refreshing they make you feel like your at the spa… I would definitely recommend this place to anyone :)
