McKinley Fitness Center is located in the heart of Champaign, adjacent to West Side Park.

We offer cheap rates of $ 25 a month for adults and $ 40 a month for couples. Any additional children are $ 5 a month added onto the adult membership.

We offer personal, one-​on-​one, training for those who would like to become stronger and begin the steps to a better you.

There are two separate fitness areas. One for men and one for women.

We also have a gymnasium (great for pick up basketball games)

After your workout relax and have a free cup of coffee in the members lounge or fishbowl.

History

Established in 2012.

The Mckinley Fitness Center was orignally the Philppe mansion it was built in 1909 by B.F. Harris for his daughter. This building was the original location for the Champaign County YMCA.

Leon J.

Business Owner

Leon has numerous properties around Champaign-​Urbana that he rents out to people. He bought the Cattle Bank in an effort to keep the historical building from being torn down, and he did the same with the McKinley Event Center. He is a family-​comes-​first man and the grandfather of eight wonderful grandchildren.

I was in the area for a weekend of roller derby. This a new venue for the Twin City Roller Girls. The exterior looks like a really old house. The interior is kept up pretty well. The roller derby game was held in an empty pool and was pretty small. There was seating on the floor and a second floor of seating on two sides. This seems like a neat building that probably gets overlooked as it blends in with the rest of the neighborhood buildings.

I have been a member for two years, and the condition and maintenance of the pools in the last year is so much better than it was in the first year. There are rarely closings or malfunctions of the pool equipment these days. In addition, the staff are extremely nice, there is plenty of hot water and good pressure in the showers, and the water aerobics instructor is very good. When I swim in the large (non-​therapy) pool, I have never had to share a lane. It is family friendly– I sometimes bring my 13 year old boy. I like the old fashioned nature of the building and I have fond memories of when it was the old YMCA and went to parent-​infant swim classes. It is much more convenient for me than any other pool, and I appreciate the easy parking and the ability to swim every day, with many hourly options.

I love McKinley Aquatic. The pools are clean and the therapy pool is kept at 90*. Staff is very friendly and responsive. It is never crowded and you may find that you often have the pool to yourself. Two beautiful restored parlors to hang out in and drink your free morning coffee.

I have been going to several of the swim aerobic classes this summer. I have had a wonderful time. Tammy is a delightful instructor who keeps us moving. The pool has never been under 90 degrees. The lap pool is consistently at 80. Location is so much better than the other locations. Only dressing rooms/​showers need a lot of improvement. Would love to have late afternoon/​eve swim lesson options.

They claim that their warm therapy pool is 86 degrees or warmer. It is not. It has never been even ‘nearly warm’ since I joined. I have heard other members complaining as well. The owner/​operator does not seem to care or makes excuses. He told me I could bring my own thermometer to test the temp if I wanted too. Too bad, because it is a very convenient location, but between the dirty facilities and the cold pool, It is a solid one-​star place. They also do not ever have a lifeguard on duty. I was told if I needed help and I was alone to get out of the pool and push a call button. Hard to do when you are drowning…
Two weeks later: rates are doubling this month.
