The Ice Den Chandler is a state-​of-​the-​art ice skating and entertainment center located in the heart of Chandler, AZ. The Ice Den Chandler was newly renovated and expanded in 2014. We offer a host of hockey and skating programs that cater to children and adults of all ages and skill levels. Inside the facility we have full proshop offering great prices on ice skating and hockey equipment. Additionally our 18 Degrees Express café offers great menu items for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

History

Established in 2014.

The Ice Den Chandler, acquired in January 2014, is located on West Harrison Street just east of the I-​10 off Ray Road. The building recently underwent an extensive 4-​month renovation. Highlights of the renovation include two completely rebuilt ice surfaces to enhance the skating experience, as well as new flooring and lighting. In addition guests will enjoy new amenities including a retail shop for hockey and figure skaters, upgraded spectator viewing areas, a restaurant, café and fitness center.

Standard programming includes youth hockey with house and travel leagues, adult hockey, skating programs for all skill levels and ages, competitive figure skating, as well as public skating events.

Mike O.

Manager

Following 15 years in sports broadcasting, Mike O’Hearn joined the Winnipeg Jets in 1989. During his tenure with the Jets, he worked in various capacities including media, communications, and marketing before joining the hockey operations department. As Assistant G.M., he provided insight on team personnel decisions, as well as the AHL affiliate, in addition to having a supervisory role in the day-​to-​day operations of the hockey department. In 96, when the team relocated to Phoenix, Mike in his role as V.P. of hockey ops/​facilities was instrumental in the transition of the franchise. In 1997 he was tasked building a state-​of-​the-​art practice facility. He spearheaded the construction process from developing architectural plans, to the ground breaking, construction and grand opening. of the Ice Den Scottsdale. In January 2014, O’Hearn led the effort to purchase the Ice Den Chandler to continue to impact and grow the skating and family entertainment scene in Arizona.

One of their racist staff members kicked out our group of 15 people just because of the actions of one person. That one person was black and the staff got mad at him for no reason. They accused him of injuring one of the other skaters even though the person wasn’t hurt and said they were fine. Then the staff member kicked us all out. Don’t come if you’re black. They will treat you unfairly.

Great place! Very well maintained– skates are clean and well take care of. FYI they are hockey skates not figure skating skates. They were a little too stiff for me but that’s a personal preference. It was busy but I felt that the price was reasonable and the experience was really fun.

Great when the weather is too hot outside and it’s not too cold inside. It’s fun with a DJ here. It was cheap on a Friday event.

I finally made it to the new ice den in chandler with my daughter. It is a completely different environment than the old one and in my opinion is a 100% improvement. The staff were very professional and organized. The ice itself was fun with lights and music. The food that I ordered while the kids were skating was outstanding. I would recommend that if you like skating and good food that you come try this place out.

Surprisingly great overall atmosphere for the family. Could use some other interactive activities for sibling or parents while waiting. Plenty of TVs, but need to spread the selection around? Not everything with ice is fun to watch (hockey, ice skating)… I get it, but some baseball or tennis needed to be on.

Open skate is alright, lots of holes in ice that should be patched during open skating… But the 2 yellow jackets seem too busy with there friends to patch them up. Best open skate near me. The hockey classes are great! Coaches are awesome people. The 18 degree bar is pretty sweet! Minus how pricey it is. Clean ice rink and clean bathrooms. Skate shop is decent. Haven’t got my skates sharpened there. Not sure if I would.

This Ice Den is great. There are 2 rinks and the instructors are all nice and very talented. There is a cross fit gym and restaurant /​bar to spend time while you are off the ice or just waiting for someone to finish up. Great for skating lessons or hockey lessons. They have league hockey as well.

We took our 5 year old daughter here for a couple open skates. She liked it so much we just started her in lessons. First lesson was great, she was very happy and like it better than dance or gymnastics. Teaching staff is uniformly dressed and attentive which allows her to advance at her own pace rather than waiting on the the rest of the class. Noticed they do have adult classes at the same time. Might be a good idea for me to hone my skills before she starts skating circles around me. Looking forward to the rest of our lessons.

Place looks amazing! What a difference! Came here to see my son play and was pleasantly surprised by all the new renovations! A major improvement to what it used to look like. Congratulations to the new owners. .. We will be looking forward to coming here in the future! Only gave it 4 stars because the food area wasn’t up and running yet! Can’t wait to come back when that happens!

SO excited about the new Ice Den Chandler. This is now our home rink and it is beautiful! The renovations are going great and it will be so nice when it is done. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars yet is that it is not fully completed. I will amend my review when it is done. There are quite a few things I am looking forward to: a nice café, a great restaurant to be able to sit and eat and watch my daughter, awesome classes, organized scheduling and ice monitoring, a well stocked pro shop, a workout facility and more! This is going to be a premier facility when it is done with top notch coaches, classes and training offerings. I am so excited for the future!

I am writing an update to this review just to say that I am glad that the owners of Polar Ice decided to sell to the Ice Den. The Ice Den (North Scottsdale) is a great place to skate and take ice skating lessons. I hope that carries over to the Chandler location as I intend to visit every once in a while when me and my family go there to spend time with my parents and nieces and nephew. I will write a proper review once they open and I’ve had a chance to try out the renovated facilities.

Great place to skate! The only reason I reserve giving them a full 5 stars is due to the uncomfortable skates.
Skates aside, the rink is kept in great condition and the ice is great to skate on. There is usually a pretty good music list playing and the rink doesn’t get too crowded. If you want to take a break from skating, there is a full drink and snack bar with plenty of seating. Additionally, there are usually little league hockey games going on so you can get some great entertainment watching kids from the hockey leagues duke it out!
This place is perfect for family outings, birthday parties, and date nights with that special someone! Bring a sweater, some tube socks, and enjoy the ice!

We wanted to check out Polar Ice Gilbert, but they only had a morning public skating, whereas here, they have a couple of open skating in the morning and afternoon. This was my little cutie pie’s first time ice skating. For $ 7.50, you get the skates, but no more buckets to help them stay up. He did great with his older cousins’ help. My little nephew was done after 20 minutes…“It’s too cold!” he complained! The he asked for hot chocolate… he’s our little treasure. I will definitely look into signing up for hockey classes for my little cutie pie. They did complain about the plastic skates hurting their feet. The costly game begins.
Another awesome place to literally keep cool in the summer.

My son and I attended a Skate/​Hockey Birthday party here and had a great time!
This was his first time on ice skates (his first time on roller skates was awful, so I was scared). I think the cold ice helped calm him down a bit and he loved skating! We took our fill of spills and slides, no major crashes!
I will give you a word of advice on the Skate/​Hockey party. If you as an adult want to skate stay towards the glass, or the opposite side of the hockey players. Adults make bigger targets for them to take you out! Not once but twice for me. I think I came home with more bruises than my son.
Yes the skates can be a bit uncomfortable, I suggest taking an extra pair of tube socks. There’s a full concession with adult beverages, some video games and lots of room for larger parties.
The martial arts studio has caught our eye on each party our daughter has been invited to attend.

Good stuff! I am currently taking an adult learn to skate class here. The instructor is very good and I am progressing at a faster pace than I thought I would. She gives us each individual feedback and tips to keep in mind which is very helpful. We can stay for open skate after our classes to practice our skills (at no additional charge).
The rental skates they have are pretty uncomfortable, so if you have your own, I would definitely recommend that you bring those.
There are lockers available for use while you skate (they take 3 quarters). And make sure to dress warm, because although it may be warm and sunny outside, it is chilly inside (you’re on ICE, right!?).

My daughters have all taken learn to skate classes at Polar Ice Chandler. The quality of the instruction is very good, and all the instructors/​coaches we’ve had are very good. I was amazed at how fast they progressed! Currently my oldest daughter is taking private lessons with Coach Brenda Thomas. She absolutely loves Coach Brenda. I definitely recommend Polar Ice Chandler and the learn to skate classes.

I went to polar ice with an entertainment book coupon and my teanage daugther.
The pros:
Cashier took off BOGO for the admission AND the skates.
It appeared they had a pretty cool summer camp w/​a hybrid skate/​martial arts studio in the same building.
Location was safe, clean and comfortable.
Wasn’t too busy, went on a Thursday morning.
The cons:
The skates, were not comfortable. I come from the East Coast, and used to ice skate when I was little. Sometimes on a rink, but other times on a pond with my grandpa. More recently I have skated with rentals in Ohio as well. I have never ever ever tried on More uncomfortable skates in my life. They were impossible to size, no half sizes, I had to pick either swim in too much room and possibly break an ankle, or cut off circulation.
They need better music. More upbeat, more… beat…
I probably wouldn’t go back without another coupon, unless they had some kind of event to make the experience less painful or more enjoyable.

Just got home from a private event at Polar Ice and it went great! Leanne, the event coordinator, was great to work with and she made the process of getting everything together very painless, especially since we’re a student organization at ASU. I came in a little early before our event to make sure everything was in the clear, and it went off without a hitch. This was just my second time being here, but it’s very clean, tons of space in the lobby area, and our group had a really good time.

Is there anything better than ice skating in AZ when it’s 110 outside? I never ice skated as a kid, but we started coming to Polar for free skate with our kids several years ago to beat the heat. Then we had our kids do the free Kids First hockey program, and now I have two kids who play organized ice hockey! It’s also much better for Mom and Dad now that they serve decent food and beer/​wine.

Coming here during summer months is like rewarding myself with ice cold slurpee after baking in the heat. There are 2 ice rings with plenty of seating to watch the little ones take up ice hockey or skating. The facility is well kept with the exception of the old restrooms. They offer wide range of classes especially during the summer. Most of the skating classes allow you to free skate before or after your session. If you have kiddies between 4 – 8 yr old they offer Kids First, which promotes ice hockey & give 4 free one hr lesson with all gears included. They don’t pressure to join afterward.

I went here with my friend one Friday night for the open skate, because sometimes you just want to go somewhere else besides the bar. I would guess that most of the kids there were between 12 – 15. I suppose we should have known that since no one ever talks about going to ice skating rinks anymore unless they’re taking their children.
I must admit that skating in the dark with disco balls and listening to Justin Timberlake was actually fun. It brought back memories of my hometown roller skating rink in junior high, when we skated to NKOTB Hangin’ Tough while swinging an arm above your head and wearing a glow in the dark necklace.
The ice skate rentals are very uncomfortable and smell bad, so if you do come here you might want to bring your own skates.
