Ocotillo Eyecare is a doctor-​owned neighborhood practice in S. Chandler.

Ocotillo Eyecare is accepting new patients and accepts most vision and major medical insurances including VSP, EyeMed, Avesis, Medicare, Cigna, Aetna and United Healthcare. Our team is dedicated to helping each patient see clearly throughout their lifetime.

Our services include:

* Pediatric and geriatric optometry

We also have a certified Optician on site to help you find the right frames for your prescription and style. Ocotillo Eyecare uses digital retinal photography, allowing our doctors to view your retina at 100 times the normal size.

History

Established in 2004.

Dr. Powell moved into the Ocotillo community in 2003 and realized quickly this was where he wanted to open his office. Dr. Powell had been practicing in Chandler since 1990 and had a well established practice already so he was ready for his next challenge.

The practice has grown steady each year as patients return and bring their family and friends. Patients tell us they appreciate our quality eye exams, friendly, experienced staff and large selection of eyewear.

As the office grew Ocotillo Eyecare has added two more excellent doctors and they offer the same high standards in eye care that Dr. Powell has set in the office.

We continue to grow but our goals are still the same, to provide the best eye care for the community we live in.

Meet the Business Owner

Dr. Timothy Powell.

Business Owner

Dr Powell received his Doctorate in 1987 from Pacific University College of Optometry. He has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from San Diego State University.

He is certified to diagnose and treat diseases of the eyes as well as pre– and post operative care for cataracts, lasik and other refractive procedures.

Dr Powell uses the latest technology for the fitting of contacts and fits all types of contacts including the latest Synergy lens.

Oustside of the office Dr. Powell likes to travel internationally, scuba dive, bike and spend time with his family.

If this was a rating only for Dr. Powell, my rating would be 5 stars. He’s great.
But the office staff and opticians are not good at this place. They’ve messed up several times on the insurance saying this, that and the other aren’t covered, when it turns everything was covered. And then they are rude and unapologetic about all the hassle they cause. And one optician just glared at us while we were looking for glasses and then the other insulted us when ordering them.
I’d go there to get your eye exams from Dr. Powell but then ask for a copy of your prescription and go somewhere else to get your glasses and contacts. Be sure you know your insurance coverage before you go in. If there are any questions ask them to call your insurance company while you are there in the office to get everything cleared up.

To schedule an appointment, the soonest they could see me was three weeks out. This was the second time I went in, two years later, and they still didn’t write down my number correctly. I had actually found out that my vision for my insurance had expired. I got there an hour early and they then told me «we tried to call you to let you know your time and about your insurance». Well, once again… You have my number wrong. There’s three other people in my family that go here, you couldn’t have called them ?? The lady at the counter was extremely sarcastic and the tone in her voice was condescending. Not going back to this eye place again.

My 15 year old daughter and myself had new patient appointments this morning and from my first call to schedule the appointment to checking out, they treated us with exceptional care!
We were greeted immediately at check in, the office was clean and well kept, the medical equipment was current and the exam rooms were large and roomy.
We saw Dr. Lisa Ho. She was so friendly, very thorough in her exam and she educated me on the importance of caring for my eyesight having hypertension and prediabetes.
Upon choosing my eye wear, there were many popular brands to pick from. They ordered me a frame I loved, in the color I wanted. Justine, the technician, was so helpful. She was very knowledgeable with my vision benefits and even helped with choosing my glasses.
I highly recommend this practice!

I have been seeing Dr. Ho for three years now. She is very thorough and always makes sure I am aware of the latest eye drops for dealing with my dry eyes. I feel like my eyes are well cared for.

Dont go here if friendly service is a priority. The exam and glasses I received were fine but the personnel was less than friendly. Out of the 4 people I dealt with, only one smiled and was pleasant. Dr Miller was thorough but cold, lecturing me repeatedly on incorrect eye care. Once is fine, three times was condescending. The woman that fitted my new glasses never greeted me or introduced herself. She tried to sell me a lighter weight lens even though I told her twice that weight didnt matter. Once I told her that I didnt want $ 700 glasses she went right to the cheapest material. She had an unpleasant attitude that continued a week later when I went to pick up my new glasses. I had seen Dr Ho at a different location last year and she was cold and distant also. The short-​haired woman with the Irish accent was the only person that was friendly and ever smiled. Nobody was rude but they never acted friendly enough to want your business. I believe there are plenty of places that can deliver good friendly service so I wont go here again.

Dr. Powell is great. We have been going there for 7 years and now considering switching. It is taking a long time for any appointments. This office is near Intel and is one of the few accept Intel’s insurance, making this a very popular office to stop by. In addition, Dr. Powell is on vacation quite frequent, so leaving limited space for appointment. My kid’s glass broke, her prescription also expired and we were not able to make an eye exam in 2 weeks, so we had to go to Target. Later, it happened couple times with emergent issues where appointment goes beyond 3 weeks. It seems that they do not care about their patients and tell me either wait of go to other places. I am OK to wait on normal exams, but with sudden problems, they are not accommodating.

I have been a patient of Dr Powell for 12 years now. He really changed the quality of my life. He is always on top of latest findings and helped me find the right kind of contacts. I have seen other eye doctors before i saw him and i can say he is the best not just for his professional skills but also for this attitude towards patients and help make a difference in their life.

I am extremely pleased with the service here. After having a disastrous experience at another optical store (large chain optical store) it is great to find an optical store who know what they are doing and have an excellent quality product. I am very pleased with my 1.67 high index lenses, both in sunglasses that I purchased here and my normal everyday glasses. Would highly recommend Ocotillo Eyecare. Emily and Bronagh are awesome, extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Will definitely be returning here.

I recently got a reminder from Ocotillo Eye Care telling me it’s time to get my eyes examined. It made me sad. This is one of the few things I really hate about relocating — having to leave a good provider. And Ocotillo Eye Care is an excellent provider, both in ophthalmology services and eye wear. Dr. Powell is great. I always felt my eyes were well cared for. But even better was his wife Brinna (I hope I spelled that right).
Any woman will agree that, regardless of what the optometrist says, how the glasses look on your face is the most important reason to pick an eye care place. Brinna has the magic touch. She will spend whatever time is necessary finding the perfect specs. And she only orders one of everything so that you don’t walk into others wearing your glasses all over town. (Take that, Lenscrafters mass-​market approach) Further, when I’ve had trouble, even months later, I’ve gone in and had the problem immediately resolved.
I can’t say enough about the service I’ve gotten here, from walk-​in to walk-​out. They’re fantastic!

I went here for an eye exam which went well, I told the eye doctor I had itchy eyes and was told she would give me a prescription for me to try for some relief. When I left they had forgoten to give me the script. I later called for the prescription and was told I would have to come in again for an exam, I told them I would not pay for another visit in order to get a script that was already promised. They still wanted me to come in again and pay a co pay for what? I will not be coming back to this place.
