I have used Academy Door & Control for garage door repairs on several occasions. Their service each time has been excellent. Their technicians are on time and courteous. Even more impressive is the fact that on at least two occasions, a representative at their office walked me through, over the phone, how to make simple adjustments to the garage door, saving me the expense of a visit. I will continue to use their services and highly recommend Academy to others.

My garage door came off the track this morning, which is Christmas Eve. My truck was trapped in the garage with errands to run. One call and an hour or so later, Big Jim came out and fixed it! I appreciate the friendly and prompt service! I will use them whenever I need some help with my garage door!

Very frustrating experience. They «fixed» the problem, but it broke again in less than 6 months. Promised they would come back out and look at it again and never came through on that.
Would never recommend them.

They are extremely arrogant and overly priced. Companies are competitive these days and they don’t seem to care as they trap their customers with a service fee. Once the tech gets here you have to pay the service fee and the repair so even if you try to find better pricing you won’t get the deal because they won’t price match and will take their service fee anyway. Shop around before you give this company business. I will never refer anyone to them.

First time i have ever given a 5-​star review. On time service. Final bill matched the quote i got over the phone. Professional service. Technician was courteous, knowledgeable and did quality work.

I gave this company 5 stars because of the first time they really impressed me. However, things didn’t go that well for the second time. This time is on Friday evening when a cable on one side of my garage door fell off the track, so I decided to call them as my first choice. The guy answered my call quickly, but gave me a quote of $ 350 because they want $ 200 extra to work during weekend, while my garage door could not be closed or opened! What the hell! Then I contacted another vendor and they came on the same day to fix it with only $ 100! So I decided that I would not use this vendor any more.

Top drawer service from Academy Door. Mario is the garage door whisperer. Our door mysteriously would just stop working. Everything in the Chamberlain lift checked out but Mario stayed with it until he could get it to do it again during the service call. And it did, letting him know it was the circuit board. It’s running perfectly now. Earlier this year the house shook when the spring broke and Academy was out to fix it within an hour. Prices are reasonable and service is without compare.

I want to give Academy Door five stars for the quality and professionalism of their service. My garage door springs broke yesterday. I called Academy Door at 5pm yesterday and they scheduled a service call for 9am — 1pm today. The service department was very friendly and professional and worked to accommodate my schedule. They gave me the price up front and the repair was exactly what they quoted.
Harry showed up right on time this morning. There couldn’t be a nicer and more knowledgeable person. He knows his stuff and spent extra time explaining exactly what he was going to do and what my options were. There was no pressure.
I can’t speak highly enough of Academy Door and would recommend them to anyone needing garage door repair or buying a new door.
It’s nice to come across a company of this calibre.

I will never use these people again. We needed to replace the weather stripping on the bottom of our garage door. It is a fair simple job and I decided to do it myself. Home Depot and Lowe’s did not carry the style we needed so I decided to drop in academy and see if they had it. At first the people were nice and took the sample I brought to match what they had in the back. While I waited I noticed they will epoxy garage floors, which I was interested in having done. Their price? $ 10/​square foot, around $ 4−5k for an average two car garage. Seemed high to me. For that price I ft like I could tile my garage floor. The guy came back with the weather stripping I needed. The receptionist produces my bill… $ 5/​foot…$ 90 in total. Having done my research already I knew this was 4x the price it should have been. When I respectfully confronted the women and told her that their price was very high and that I could get it online for $ 1.30/ft her response was «are you going to take it or not?». Not «That can’t be right, let me check with someone». Northern Virginia is filled to the gills with extremely overpriced contractors, please shop around and use the ones that aren’t trying to get rich quick by inflating their prices.

I called in the morning and they had a tech out within 2 hrs. Great work, fair price, very professional, includes warranty.

What can I say but WOW! I called this company after reading someone else’s review that was disappointed wtih a different company and said, «Try Academy instead.» I was almost in tears and the secretary, who also seemed very well-​educated in the garage door business/​vernacular said, «I’m going to put you through to John Williams who has been doing this a very long time.» What a blessing that was. John Williams is just the best service professional I’ve worked with in a LONG time – someone with true skill and knowledge in his field, as well as, prompt and efficient. He is one of those old-​fashioned craftsmen who actually gets out his ruler and does the work required to truly complete the job that needs to be done INSTEAD of just telling you it can’t be done and you need new doors and by the way, we sell these amazing doors at great prices and I just so happen to have some right here in my van for this price. That kind of «businessman» is really preying upon innocent consumers who may be a little desperate to just get it done and pay any price to do so. Anyway – can’t say enough about Academy and John Williams in particular.

This company really goes above and beyond with customer service. They came out to repair my garage doors about a year ago. They were on time and professional. I was very pleased with the service.
Yesterday I started having issues with my door again. When I called to make an appointment, the wonderful woman who answered the phone gave me several suggestions to troubleshoot the issue before scheduling a service call. It was so amazing to have a company more focused on helping the customer than on making a quick buck. I managed to fix the issue on my own this time, thanks to Academy’s great advice, but I will use them any time that I have issues in the future.

On time, well marked vehicle, professional looking well spoken technician. Jorge explained everything he was going to do beforehand and did it. The door looks great and functions flawlessly.

I called for service at about 9:30 a.m. on a weekday, and Academy said a technician would be out between 1 and 3. He was. He was thoroughly professional. He installed all new roller bearings and did some general maintenance, and the door works better – smoother and quieter– than it ever has since we’ve owned the house (3 years). The cost was $ 270 – more than I once paid a competitor (Andrew’s) but for a different problem. Although I am in no position to give an expert evaluation, I can say that I received quick service and that I am thoroughly pleased with the repair.

These guys exceeded expectations. I was given a window of 9am to 1pm. The technician called at 8:45am and arrived 30 minutes later — exactly on time. He could have easily recommended a complete replacement of the door/​system but instead he installed a stabilizing bracket and fixed the problem. Reasonable price with a 60 days warranty.

This morning when I was leaving the house for work, the garage door was closing and made a loud BOOM noise. I then tried to open/​close it and noticed it wouldn’t open or close. My wife and I frantically searched for an emergency garage door repair company to come fix our garage today. My wife decided to work from home.
First I was looking at other garage door repairs in the area. one of these other companies got recent bad reviews. I won’t name the other company. but it seems to be one of the popular ones in this area.
Anyways, my wife called Academy’s emergency service. A lady then told her that someone would be at our house between 10am and 2pm today (same day). My wife had to do something first thing in the morning and apparently someone from Academy came at 8:45am (but no one was home). My wife called them back to let them know that the window for the appointment was between 10am and 2pm (not 8:45am). They apologized for the mistake and confusion.
Even though our appointment was at 10am, the guy (not sure of his name) arrived promptly at 10am. My wife said he was very nice and professional. Our spring/​coil broke and he fixed the spring and tested everything. Our garage is not even quieter than before! In the end, the cost was only around $ 200. Which was great because it was an emergency call. We felt the price was VERY fair and reasonable.
If we ever have any garage issues down the road, we will go with these folks again. Highly recommended!

Academy was great. quoted me over the phone (wasn’t cheap but not their fault). The door manufacturer Wayne Dalton (who I would give a ½ star) discontinued the patented spring system. The guy came out and said it was a 30 minute retrofit. Actually took 40 but great gravy it was 11 degrees out. He lubed the door and opener and the 2^nd door and was done. Extremely efficient. I would recommend them to anyone.

My garage door needed fixing, so I Unilocaled for a reliable company. Seeing all the excellent ratings for Academy, I called them. When I told the lady who answered the phone my address, she actually pulled up the name of the previous owner and I realized they were the ones who installed the garage door originally! So I thought to myself, «They installed it and they have records of it. And they were going to send someone down the same morning. Great start!»
I waited and waited… Someone arrived at 2.30pm. He took a look at the damage and said he will try to repair as much as possible so I could at least close the door. But he’ll have to get his manager to call me about replacing the bottom panel. Meanwhile, the repair person advised that we should not use the door to prevent the cable from snapping. Well, at least I can close the door and feel safer at night. The $ 119 was still worth it and I was still very hopeful
Then 2 weeks went by without any call back. I call them and they said they will have to check their stock and may have to order that panel. I was told someone would contact me to provide a quote and make an appointment.
Another 2+ weeks later, still no one bothered to call us

I recently had to deal with an issue where two different pieces of my original 4 year old garage door equipment had broken. After finding out from the company that manufactured the equipment — Overhead Door — that they would replace the two pieces for around $ 200 total — and I would only get a 30 day warranty on those two parts — I was livid.
Two different friends recommended Academy Door & Control Corp. So I went out one Saturday to visit them — be aware, they close at 1:00 pm on Saturday. I arrived at 12:45 pm — so I got there just in time.
They showed me the components they would use. These definitely appeared to be much more robust quality-​wise than anything Overhead Door offered. They also took me in the back to their garage work area and demoed the belt drive motor — which was way quieter than my crappy, noisy chain-​driven Overhead Door brand system.
So I signed up for them to come out and replace everything — Garage door motor, drive system, keypad, interior switch, and remotes. They gave me a four hour window as to when they would arrive — and they arrived within the first two hours of that window. Linwood and his colleague — can’t remember his name — went to work dismantling and removing the old system and then installing, configuring, and testing the new system — it took them about 45 minutes.
I then came down, they showed me how it worked, had me program a new code into the keypad, showed me how the interior control system and remote worked, had me test it — and I was very pleased. So much quieter!
The new system has a lifetime warranty on the motor and belt drive system — and a 5 year warranty on the keypad, interior control pad, and the remotes. $ 409.00 installed! I highly recommend these guys!
