Kustom Floors

We originally found Kustom Floors through the previous owners of our home, and thank goodness we did! We needed to replace some old hardwood floors that were not updated during the original owner’s renovations, and Rudy and his team were great to work with. Rudy is very knowledgeable and takes time to listen to your questions and concerns. He provides his cell phone, and goes out of his way to be available to answer questions or concerns– no matter the time of day. He stands by his service and products, and holds his team to the same standard.
During the first project, they replaced about 650 sq. ft. of wood floor and painted four rooms, which was complete within a week or so. The final results were beautiful! I was so pleased, I have hired Kustom Floors to renovate our guest room and guest bath, as well as our laundry room. I have no doubt the final product will be as flawless as our new floors and paint.
In addition, I was having a hard time finding a handyman to help with little projects around the house, so Kustom Floors came to the rescue. I told Rudy what needed to be done, and the next day while I was at work, his team came by and executed the items Rudy and I discussed. It was so effortless.
I would recommend Kustom Floors to everyone. The quality is beautiful and sturdy, the workers are respectful and the service is second to none!

When we bought our house, we identified several projects that would make the house feel like home. Our top priorities were to have our hardwood floors refinished, have recessed lighting installed in our living room, and have a doorway reframed. We spoke with several contractors (all of whom came with high recommendations!) and were impressed by Rudy’s knowledgeability, responsiveness and ability to tackle all of the projects we wanted to undertake. He invited us to see his home (which showcases his team’s work), and we were impressed by his own design choices, and the quality of his work. While not the lowest quote we received, we felt his prices were competitive for the quality of the work he promised.
We’ve now worked with Rudy & his team on a number of projects (we keep finding projects where we want his help!) and have several more slated for 2016. I have always found Rudy and his team to be professional, responsive, and patient. Rudy has been very patient (and low pressure!) as we’ve sorted out what exactly we want to do and how we want to sequence our projects, he has offered great suggestions and ideas, and he’s always been willing to answer questions. And, of course, we’ve been very happy with the quality of the work– the recessed lighting José (Rudy’s electrician) installed is AMAZING, the drywall work his team has done has been well executed, and the new floor they team installed is going to be incredible once it’s finished (we’re just waiting to stain & seal it til we’re ready to refinish the rest of the floors).

Kustom Floors installed a stunningly beautiful quarter sawn white oak floor on the lower level of our rowhouse in Glover Park, and it gets the most compliments of any part of the renovation. I chose Rudy because he could demonstrate that his crew knew all about the intricacies of installing and finishing the Owens engineered wood floor, and applying the Rubio monocoat finish system, for a spectacular matte finish. They are actually craftsmen (an endangered species in DC) and It was a pleasure to have them working on our home.

They generally did things fine. If you get Rudy himself, he is excellent and did a great job on half our house. Unfortunately, the second guy who came did work on the second half of the house were not as good as Rudy. The office didn’t keep details on the work, and so the second guy asked me what kind of poly finish was used in the other half. I didn’t know exactly, but I guess they decided to go with whatever they had and now I have half a house with a low sheen finish and half with a visibly higher sheen. Frankly, they’re the experts, and I imagine they should have been able to tell by looking at the floor at least what level of gloss was in the first half.
Also, during the staining process, one of the guys stepped into the room and left foot print marks. When I pointed this out the next day, the guy asked me if I had stepped into the room, which you can clearly see I hadn’t since the foot print was far larger than mine. Also, the sanding work is uneven, and you can see round sanding marks in the floor. None of this was a problem with Rudy.
Given that they aren’t the cheapest by a mile, I’d expect a little more. I will say the installers were great.
5 stars for Rudy, 3 stars for his other team, weighted towards 3 because the final product looks like 2 different people did it and it shouldn’t. I’d recommend them to other people but I would say ask for Rudy.

They just refinished my oak floors throughout my home and also installed new flooring in several areas. They did a great job. Excellent customer service, expert workmanship. Got the job done very quickly and professionally. Couldn’t ask for more and my floors are beautiful.

We had a series of jobs for Kustom Floors including refinishing hardwood floors, installing hardwood floors, painting and installing a customerbanister. Every project turned out great, and Rudy made sure we were satisfied with the work being done every step of the way. He also gave great advice and was honest with recommending work we could do ourselves. He was also easily accessible by phone and text to answer any questions we had about the work being done. We would highly recommend the Kustom Floors and intend to use them on our next project. Prices were very reasonable and we got a great value for our investment.
