Allison Williams is a Chicago-​based photographer specializing in documentary weddings. From scouting the most interesting photo spots, to lighting for the best shots, to post-​production, Allison ensures her clients walk away with exceptional and individual photographs of this most special day. She’s most excited by her client’s unique traits and ideas, and always has a blast building the most creative, interesting shoots for her brides and grooms. Whether it’s an engagement session on a boat, a bride wearing cowboy boots, or a backyard wedding, Allison’s photojournalistic approach allows her to capture the real, intimate moments as they happen, in unique photographic style.

As an independent studio, Allison Williams Photography offers individualized packages for each client and is always excited to collaborate on ideas for your wedding. And of course, Allison Williams Photography supports and photographs all couples, however they define themselves.

History

Established in 2010.

Allison worked as a staff photojournalist for Sun-​Times Media before starting her own company in 2010. She continues to photograph news and events and uses the same approach for weddings as she does in her newspaper and magazine work.

Allison’s style comes out of a unique background-​a mix of fine art, documentary, and journalistic photography define her particular approach.

Allison Williams is a photographer and multimedia producer based in Chicago, IL. She graduated from Columbia College Chicago and also studied Spanish at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico.

Allison worked as a staff photographer for Sun-​Times Media before starting her own company in 2010. When she’s not making pictures, Allison works as a videographer on documentary films, helps run the Illinois Press Photographers Association and volunteers with local non-​profits.

Allison and her partner, Chris captured our wedding day on 6.11.16. We haven’t even seen the photos yet, but we know that they will turn out AMAZING! We didn’t want cheesy photos, rather, we wanted our photos to look candid, in the moment, photo journalistic. After doing some research, Allison’s photo portfolio online was what we were looking for in a photographer. After our first meeting with her, we knew she would be the one to capture our wedding photos. We had to book with her instantly!
Allison did such a great job on our engagement photos! We have no doubt that our wedding photos will turn out beautiful. Allison and Chris were so easy to work out and so pleased with how the day turned out. We look forward to seeing the final photos! If you need a great photographer, with photo journalistic style, Allison Williams is the BEST!

We really could not be happier with our wedding pictures and the experience we had with Allison and her assistant, Chris.
She really captured the day in the style we discussed and was not a nuisance or in the way at all (which I have seen at other weddings). My husband and I actually both had a great time with them in the room while we were getting ready and during our portraits.
We are a fun-​loving couple and the pictures really reflected how much fun we had on the day. However, we did get some stunning formal photos that we will treasure forever.
The package we ordered even included an engagement shoot, which we had already done, so we are going to do a post-​wedding shoot downtown with our dog. We can’t wait!

We couldn’t be happier with our experience working with Allison and Chris. We first met with Allison to take our engagement photos to use for our save the dates. We went to one spot and she was able to make it look like we were in 3 different places. It took less than an hour and she had plenty of options for us. We received many compliments on our save the dates so we were more than excited to see her on the big day.
On our actual wedding day we had a blast working with her and Chris. We also hired a videographer the day off, JJ Kim, and it almost seemed like they teamed up to get our bridal party, family, and friends pose for photos together. Chris and Alison were so fun to work with, they were asked to be in our guests photos!
Alison and Chris split up to take photos of the Bride and Groom separately, then met up with us at the ceremony. They were really kind and patient to our family and friends who took pictures with their phones. They also captured a lot of great moments of everyone with their phones out, in tears. They were able to get our family portrait pictures done in under half an hour with over 100 people actually in the bridal party including family. After the ceremony we went to two locations for about 15 – 20 minutes each. She was able to take a lot of shots in a short amount of time.
I only remember seeing them at the reception at the end of the night. Ninja. We took photos for about 10 minutes and just like our engagement photos, she made it look like we were in 3 different places.
Thank you Allison and Chris for the hundreds of pictures you’ve shared with us. Thank you for making it so hard to pick which pictures to use for our Album. And thank you for not only capturing our big day, but also celebrating it with our friends and family. It was an absolute pleasure «working» with you.

Allison (and her assistant Chris) shot the most AMAZING pictures of our wedding. We were looking for a true photojournalistic style of wedding photography and that’s exactly what Allison delivers – she captured candid, honest, and spontaneous moments with a brilliant eye for composition and color.
If you look at any of Allison’s work, the photos really do speak for themselves, but Allison was also a dream to work with through the entire process. Communication during the planning process was clear and easy and she was totally game to help us create a somewhat atypical engagement session a few months before the wedding itself.
On the day of our wedding, Allison and Chris melted seamlessly into the happenings of the day. They were a joy to have around – stealthily grabbing shots of more intimate moments but also engaged with us and our guests when moments called for it. Totally professional, but never pushy or overbearing.
The shots that we got from our wedding capture the energy and spirit of the whole event so perfectly. We couldn’t be happier with the experience and then final results.

Where do I even begin? Allison was AMAZING to work with! I received my photos about a couple weeks ago and I am thrilled with them! I wanted a Chicago wedding and we got some amazing shots that were not cheesy or overworked. Her eye for background and color is an inherent talent that you just can’t get with some photographers. Our photos capture the energy, color and vibrancy of our special day.

Allison was our photographer for our wedding a month ago, and we are absolutely thrilled with our photos! She is incredibly talented at making the simplest things look absolutely beautiful and bringing out the best lighting and color. She is so easy-​going and relaxed, you barely notice that she is there capturing everything that is happening, and best of all… no silly poses! We are so glad that we picked her, she is worth every penny!

Like the other reviewers, we hired Allison to do our wedding, and we are thrilled with the way everything turned out. We did a package with engagement photos plus the wedding day, and both sets of pictures are beautiful and she (and Chris, her assistant!) did such a great job of capturing both days without making us do any uncomfortably forced poses. I echo the other reviewers who say that the best part is that you barely know that she’s there. My favorite parts of her work are how she works with color and catches the the emotions of the day — both aspects of our photos that have been frequently complimented by friends and family.

Allison shot our wedding three weeks ago and we just saw the photos. We could not be happier!
We chose Allison because she shot another wedding at our venue (Dank Haus) and made the space look breath-​taking. I mean, it’s a pretty space but she makes it look like a million bucks.
We were also drawn to her documentary style with more candid shots than long series of really posed photos. She did an amazing job of capturing small moments and great expressions that really tell the story of the day.
My husband and I also commented to each other after the wedding that we hardly noticed she was there. She did such a stealthy job getting in the action for great shots while being very unobtrusive.
We weren’t expecting to get our photos so quickly. Even with the fast turnaround it is clear that a lot of time and attention went into making the photos look awesome and extremely professional!

Allison Williams and her assistant Chris Murphy captured so many amazing moments throughout our wedding ceremony and reception. They spent the ENTIRE day with us as we prepared and into the night all the way to our late-​night snacks. Their photojournalism style best documents emotions, people’s faces, stolen & funny moments that would have been lost to memory but somehow they immortalized them in photos. The portraits and candid shots are phenomenal and we are so grateful to have them. In terms of still life, the photos of the table centerpieces turned out gorgeous but we’re still waiting on some décor scenes. Allison is very responsive during planning and answered all of our questions. She’s a great professional to work with and our friends chose her to shoot their wedding in April 2013.

Allison did such a great job at our July 21, 2012 wedding. She is soo talented! Her photography is really elegant, clean, and classic. I couldn’t be happier with the pictures she took of us. I told her the styles from her portfolio I really loved & she made sure to get similar shots on our wedding day. She created a schedule/​timeline to keep us on track after collaborating with my fiancé and I. The turnaround time for the photos was very very prompt. She is so creative and has such a special eye for viewing things. Anyone would be lucky to have her as a photographer. I can’t stop looking through the pictures they are sooo beautiful! Allison did an awesome job at our recent wedding. The preview of pictures is amazing and she perfectly captured the joy of our day — we can’t wait to see the rest. We decided that our biggest splurge for the wedding would be the photographer — we wanted to get wonderful pictures — and we did.
I was impressed with her creativity and her flexibility. She was excellent about asking questions and making sure we captured everything we wanted, but she never once added to any of the stress of the day, which goes a long way in my book.
She knows what she’s doing and does it cheerfully. She and her assistant came up with cool and creative ideas for photos and utilized the area we had our wedding in really well — it was a garden wedding and she was all over the place — up in the barn, taking pictures from above, setting up lights in the underbrush to create an amazing silhouette photo of my husband and I, etc.
She obviously has a great eye and captures lovely moments — both posed and not. We really look forward to seeing the rest of the pictures!

I should start out by saying I am also a wedding, portrait and news photographer just like Allison. SO… I know what I’m talking about when I say Allison is one of the best photographers around. She has an amazing eye for composition, color and expression. Often, if I am unavailable to photograph an event for a customer, I refer them to Allison. I even told my best friend to hire her for her wedding because I was a bridesmaid and couldn’t photograph it myself.
Allison is very down-​to-​earth and easy to work with. Her prices are reasonable, and the quality of her work is very good. I know you will be happy with your photographs if you hire her.
