Anil Shah, MD FACS SC

Dr. Shah is the best of the best! he is an awesome, honest and talented surgeon, and a very nice person, with a great patients-​side manner! I had a rhinoplasty done by him 5 – 6 year ago, and go in for Botox on a regular basis. he will NEVER try to sell you something that you don’t need, and in fact he is on a conservative side. I asked a couple of times about getting some filler and his response was — you don’t need any.
Yes, receptionist girls can be a little scetchy, and parking in downtown Chicago sucks, but really — who cares??? It is your face and the skill of the surgeon is ALL that matters, not parking! And his skills and integrity is something you can trust.
I would recommend Dr. Shah anytime for any facial plastics.

They don’t value and care their customers’ time. They better know time is money by now. Even thought I had a consultant appointment I’ve waited him for two hours in a waiting lobby and two different rooms all alone. Then he came into the room with rushed and unfriendly attitude. The consult did not even last 10 minutes. I really really don’t think I would go back and deal with the same problem over and over again.

I’m very pleased with the service Dr. Shah has provided for me and would recommend him to anyone who is seeking facial plastic surgery. I went to a different physician for the same concern (which was a scar on my face) and well… It just didn’t seem right, so I just put it off for a couple months until I was ready to trust someone with such a procedure. I went online and researched, it wasn’t hard to choose Dr. Shah over the others. After the consultation I knew I made the right decision. From the day of the procedure to my recovery– everything went very smoothly. I have a couple more future appointments, I’m very excited! :) Thank you very much, Dr. Shah.
The office: is beautiful/​clean/​organized and his team is very polite, caring, and professional.
P. S. You also can get a parking discount-​which is GREAT because downtown-​parking is ridiculously expensive.(-_-), especially in Chicago.

Dr. Shah turned the needle and syringe into his magic wand that took years off my face. He is warm and friendly, his staff is sweet and highly accommodating. I just love to go there for my beauty needs. Radiesse, IPL. They exceed all my expectation. And the pricing is amazing. Well worth it.

I was visiting Chicago for a long weekend and thought I would get a consultation with Dr. Anil Shah. I found some stuff about him online and was pleased to hear he specialized in facial plastic surgery which was important to me being a surgeon as well. I knew he was qualified to do any procedure I was interested. Scheduling was easy and they accommodated my last minute appointment needs with a pleasant and friendly demeanor. Dr. Shah was personable and I feel like I have known him for years. I liked that he respected my limited knowledge in facial enhancements such as Botox and further educated me on other options to «rejuvenate» my look. After a discussion about the risks and benefits as well as realistic expectations we decided on juvaderm for under my eyes to reduce the sunken in look that happens with age. I liked that he didn’t try to sell me on everything else such as Botox or actual surgery although now I am considering additional treatments. The procedure went exactly as he described and the result much better than I even expected. The only negative is that he is in Chicago and I’m on the west coast. Guess I’ll be taking trips to Chicago more frequently as I trust his surgical expertise.

To my surprise Dr. Shah’s office manager contacted me and said they were unaware of my unsatisfactory results. Apparently they had a change in personnel and my concern was lost in the transition. The new office manager was very caring and wanted to do anything to make sure I got the results I expected. She offered to fix the bump or give me a partial refund. I told her it was not about the money. She suggested I meet with Dr. Shah to discuss options. I was hesitant to have another procedure but I met with Dr. Shah and he explained to me that he was ordering a new tool that was hard to get and it would definitely shave off the stubborn bone but not be too aggressive. He assured me that he would make it very comfortable for me. So I decided to give it another chance. It took a while to schedule the appointment. This was due to personal issues with my mom being ill, finding someone to go with me as they required I be escorted after the procedure and I have to admit I was nervous to have the procedure so I may have stalled a little. The office manager was very patient with me and communication via email was prompt, pleasant and easy.
The day of the procedure starting at the front desk everyone could not have been more friendly and helpful. Dr. Shah was very attentive and as always I found him to be a good listener and communicator. He was very aware I was nervous and put me at ease. Overall the procedure was mostly comfortable. This time they gave me gel patches to wear under my eyes afterward and at night to minimize bruising. They worked! I actually had no bruising this time. I did, however, have a lot of swelling both of my nose and my eye on the side he removed the bump. I think I had swelling last time too. I just don’t remember. I was concerned when I was still swelled a couple days later on Sunday so I sent a picture and an note via email expecting a response sometime Monday. But apparently Dr. Shah was in the office Sunday and he responded. I was so happy to get such a quick response which put my mind at ease that it was normal for at least a week and continue to use ice as needed.
I’ve rated my overall experience a 4 rather than a 5 because I am still in the healing process. My nose is still swollen and a little tender to the touch. The true results of the procedure will not be revealed for another 7 weeks. If I had to rate the staff I would definitely give them a 5. Mia as usual was terrific and Karin could not have been more pleasant. Thank you Dr. Shah for all the improvements you have made to your procedures, your staff and to putting customer service as your number one priority… you have renewed my faith.

I wanted to take the time to write a review on my decision to get a revision ryno by Dr. Shah. I spent months researching the internet to find the best doctor to take on my complicated case. (Had a horrendous botched job prior and after two kids my nose changed and seemed to get worse looking over time). Although I live in Chicago money nor travel have any impact because I could have gone anywhere. I choose to go with Dr. Shah based on my research and referral by another physician. The reviews are true, he has incredible beside manner and his ability to sculpt what I thought was a terrible botched job previously is incredible. I am 1 mo post op and he reduced the bump, straightened my nose, tweaked the tip while using my rib and my breathing has improved dramatically during my runs. If you have an option to use rib, use it… I used both in the past and although it sounds scary it is not and has given me beautiful results. He is a true artist if you want elegant results with someone who is a perfectionist. I literally went out 8 days post op from surgery and my nose was a little swollen as expected but it looked AMAZING!!!
I highly recommend him even if you are beginning your research and not yet ready to make the commitment. He is honest/​straight forward and really stands behind his work.

As both a healthcare executive (Director of an Anesthesia Group/​Surgical Facility), and a former runway model (past life, sure was fun), the former allows me to be fortunate enough to have numerous contacts of the physician-​kind at my disposal. The latter instills a sense of pride and obsession about my appearance, which I take very seriously, both from an aesthetic and a sartorial perspective.
I’m lucky enough to be the product of good genetics. Staying on topic, I haven’t wrinkled at my mature age of 37, my pores are the size they are supposed to be, and my skin tone is what many try to achieve through tanning salon memberships. A couple of weeks ago, I developed a mole/​skin tag/​something on the side of my chin. Not life-​threatening or anything (I hope), I wanted to have it excised in order to stay looking hot.
My extensive experience with doctors is this — they all understand the science of what is going on and they are all hyper-​intelligent. What sets the good apart from the not-​so-​good is largely in part their ability to communicate effectively with their patients.
Why, out of all my doctor contacts, did I choose Dr. Shah? For one, he and his staff remember that they are providing a service for you. From the moment that you walk through the door, the staff understands that as a patient, you have an expectation, and seeks to meet this at first contact. Dr. Shah, personally, is very calm and conversational, and genuinely seeks to understands your concerns and expectations from a visit.
The excision went by so quickly, painlessly, and smoothly, that I almost forgot what I was there for. Surgeons are much-​defined by how steadily and gracefully their hands move, and Dr. Shah wins there.
Granted, what I had done was less extensive than most, but it is also my understanding that Dr. Shah’s patient base also consists of many that are of much higher esteem than I am, so apparently, they feel the same way.
I should add, that when looking for a facial plastic surgeon, that you should first look for one thing. Look for a doctor that is FIRST and Otolaryngologist (ENT or Ear, Nose, Throat) AND a facial plastic surgeon. Dr. Shah is Board Certified in both. You should know that there are a lot of surgeons out there that operate with lesser credentials, or that operate on specialties that are outside of their primary. Not to say that they can’t be good, but if you’re the type to vet, this is a good place to start.
I hope that I will never need anything major done to my face, but should the time come, I know where I’m going.
Oh, just as an aside… I read that someone here on Unilocal was complaining about the parking charges. Well, yea, the office is in the Watertower Building, on Michigan Ave. Of course it’s going to be somewhat expensive. There’s also a cupcake store in the building, and I don’t quite think that it’s fair for me to judge the quality of the cupcakes by how much it costs me to park in the most expensive neighborhood in Chicago. :-)

I travel from NYC to Dr. Shah he is that good. What most people do not understand is that for cosmetic work not only do you want a medical technician, (which he’s, when I lived in Chicago I researched over 300 facial reconstruction surgeons before I selected Dr. Shah while I was saving for over 1 year. I selected him after interviews with two other top surgeons and many discussions with a friend about which Dr. would be the best for me.), you also want someone who cares about how your face will function afterwards, and if you’re going for just a look improvement you need to have an artist as well, this is a rare combination indeed. Dr. Shah embodies all these things, he is a medical technician who specializes from the neck up, to add he is more thorough than my ENT as he is an Otolaryngologists to boot!
Why all my research and a year of studying and saving… well I was a ballet dancer/​Musical Theatre performer at the time and during the day a Pilates Instructor; so I was not rolling in cash. I needed someone who would not mess up my singing voice from repairing my collapsed septum after severely breaking my nose from a major collision. I had high expectations and to be honest after the first procedure they were not visually met… so why 6 stars… because when I asked him why my nose was not perfect the way I wanted it he was very honest, the damage to my septum was so great that I was under for quite a while just for the repair by the time he got to the esthetic reconstruction he had a choice a quick fix with a stint like DR. Byun had suggested or focusing on making sure it looked good and would function even better than before. But he said give it a year see how it heals and if you are not 100% satisfied with the look that he would take care of me. He did, 2 years later, after all swelling went down I still felt that my nose was not as it was before the break, by now I had moved to NYC and opened a Pilates studio. I was making more money and I had landed a Summer show in part thanks to him as my vocal range had increased after the surgery! So I went to see him as to my surprise after the surgery he only charge me for the surgical room fees! He kept his promise to make good on his commitment to my complete satisfaction. I love the way my nose looks now! The best part is no one can tell I have had work done, and though it is a huge improvement it looks like it has always belonged to me. I now go for botox and laser resurfacing and he also checks on the health of my nose. When people in NYC get work done they looked pulled and after botox one eyebrow is always higher than the other. But for me I go to him and people just can’t believe how youthful and refreshed I look.
If you want before and after photos just ask you will be amazed all my Facebook friends are. And most importantly my nose functions better and I can now sleep because I can breathe. Thank you DR. Shah!-M. Cole

I’ve been seeing Dr. Shah now since he first began practicing at NYU. I used to go to NYC a lot for work but obviously when he moved to Chicago I was thrilled! I started getting botox in my early 30’s because I had a deep crease in between my eyebrows. We started with botox, not a ton, just enough. I am now just 41 and I am told constantly that I look ³²⁄₃₃. That was about my age when I started getting botox. I’m THRILLED with the look I get. I can see bad botox a mile away. However he does it, I don’t get that creepy, overbotoxed look. No one believes I get it done. I’ve referred many of my friends to him and everyone is thrilled with his work. If you want a doctor that will help you age gracefully, go see Dr. Shah. He is also really honest. He won’t do anything that will mess with your natural looks. I am already planning a mini eyelid lift in a year or two but he explained to me that due to my Swedish heritage, my eyes will always have a heavier lid. All he is going to do it lighten them up a little. My plan is to continue getting little things done, so I will never have to get a full on facelift.

I went in for cosmetic reasons only, to get rhinoplasty. All I wanted was for the small bump to be taken out, and a little change to the tip… THREE surgeries later, it still look horrible. (Inital surgery, correction in office closed surgery and thn a 3^rd correction surgery!). It’s uneven, bumpy and I have two totally different size nostrils. Every single follow up appointment I waited at least 40 minutes before they took me to a room, then I’d end up waiting another 30+ for dr shah to come in to see me, for about 10! seconds. I highly recommend doing your research and go somewhere else.

I had my nose reduced by Dr Shah 1.5 years ago. My nose was my biggest concern for many years and I finally decided to fix it. Believe me or not, it completely changed my face, self esteem, and made me happier about my look. I came for consultation and I had an open rhinoplasty 2 weeks after. Recovery wasn’t fun, but I didn’t have any issues. Also I saw Dr Shah for 4 times after operation for follow-​ups. His fees were affordable for me, and I am completely satisfied with the result.

This is a follow up review to my August 2011 review.
I continue to trust Dr. Shah’s skills and continue to be treated with professionalism and kindness when I’m at his office, not just by him, but his staff.
The healing process has still been extremely slow for me. Dr. Shah has used Kenalog injections in the tip of the nose to help resolve some of swelling which has worked, but my body is still being extremely reluctant to let go of the final bits of swelling.
My breathing is incredible and is now close to 100% perfect. That is more than the doctor anticipated so I will take it. I’m thrilled with my breathing.
I recently had the callouses rasped in his office which has been additional recovery time. I don’t think I am a typical patient because I have seen general percentages for patients who need this done after rhinoplasty and it is something like less than 20%, so it is fairly uncommon. I think my body just enjoys being difficult and slow to heal.
I will update again hopefully in a few months for a final review.

I really wanted to love Dr Shah. Before anything happened, he had incredible bedside manner and I felt totally safe in his hands. When I expressed displeasure with the final result, he basically told me that miscommunication happens and left me in the room with a very young-​looking woman whose job description I was never made aware of and whose purpose I could not deduce based on her unexplained presence in the room.
The customer service here was all over the place. This is a nice way of me saying, I don’t know how any of you are gainfully employed because your customer service, and yes, I mean you, receptionist, is shitty.
I do think that Shah is a skilled surgeon and a nice modern gentleman but the surgeon ego and the ridiculous parking, I can do without. And that’s the thing: there are a lot of skilled surgeons in the United States and every single one of them will take my money.
So we will edit this review because I am tired of getting questions about Dr Shah like I am going to be in the operating room with you. MEET HIM. The worst that will happen is that you will have a consultation with a surgeon and have to deal with his shitty receptionist and spend too much money on parking.
Realize that I am EDITING MY REVIEW because I’m so tired of getting messages from brand new members who just joined four minutes ago asking for my social security number and before/​after photos of what I didn’t like about Dr Shah and also can you put your fingerprint right here so that we (ALLEGEDLY) can figure out who you are.
I thought my original review was polite but I lose more respect for Dr Shah every single time I get these bullshit messages.
I am EDITING MY REVIEW AGAIN because of a cease and desist letter dated August 2013 (mind you, I saw Shah in 2010, I think) from some lawyer gentleman representing Shah stating «on behalf of Dr. Shah, I demand» this posting be removed. Also, «Dr. Shah may authorize me to pursue all legal remedies against you».

Dr. Shah is a GOD. I had a love/​hate relationship with my nose for YEARS. It was bulbous and blobby yet it was also the type of nose that, if changed, could dramatically change the look of my face — think Jennifer Gray. One of the surgeon’s that I consulted with agreed with me, that having the procedure was a big gamble with my face. I truly liked my face, I was simply preoccupied with the fact that my nose sometimes took away from my best features which are large eyes and full lips. I researched like CRAZY and came upon Dr. Shah via the web. I noticed that he had published literature with Raj Kanodia, as in THE Dr. Raj sooooooooo… I called Dr. Raj’s office and told them that I would love to come to Dr. Raj, yet his fees were out of my range thus I asked whether they could recommend Dr. Shah based on the fact that they were obviously aquainted. Dr. Raj said that I would be in great hands. I am THRILLED w/​my nose. It didn’t change my face, just my nose. I LOVE DR. SHAH!!!

I had a closed rhinoplasty done by Dr. Shah. He did exactly what I wanted and my nose looks great. I’m extremely happy I went to see him. His fees were not very high compared to other surgeons. The staff are very sweet and helpful except for the one blond with the strange name that takes pictures. He also removed a mole on my chin and left it scarless. If you are considering a rhinopasty or any other facial procedure you should see Dr. Shah. I look 100% better yet his work was so subtle that no one noticed except for my parents. People just keep telling me that I look much prettier :) I have more confidence as a result of my procedure. My only regret was not doing it earlier in life. I will be seeing him for many more years to come ;)
