History

Established in 2009.

Clementine was created in 2009 by Chicago wedding & event planning expert Kelly Cavanaugh. Kelly has thrived in the event business for over 10 years. She has worked on fundraising events for the American Lung Assoc and served as a Sr. Wedding Consultant at Blue Plate Catering, planning weddings at major Chicago venues. Since starting Clementine, Kelly has been recoginized by multiple industry publications for her innovative approach to wedding planning.

In 2010, Clementine welcomed Sr Event Consultant Melissa Samek to the team. Melissa fulfilled her passion for event planning while working as a wedding & social expert at one of Chicago’s premier catering & event planning companies for over 5 years. She began her career in advertising as a national media buyer, and prior to that earned her business degree from Indiana University. Melissa is known in the wedding industry for her client service, and going the extra mile to ensure every event is unique, special & truly unforgettable.

I highly recommend considering Clementine Custom Events to help plan your wedding! Jaci Weber was planner for our wedding in April, and she was a life saver. She recommended me some of the best vendors in my budget and was always available for my many questions. And because of her, I was able to take a new job, move to a new city and prepare for a new life with my husband in addition to plan my wedding! On the day of the wedding, Jaci completely shined. We did not have to worry about any logistics and details and could focus our attention on the beautiful beginning of our new life in the presence of our family and friends. We had to carve out a portion of our wedding budget for a planner, but we do not we feel like we missed out on any experiences as Jaci helped to ensure our wedding was exactly what we envisioned within our budget. We cannot thank Jaci enough for all of her help and will be forever grateful for her!

My husband and I were recommend to Loren at Clementine from his brother’s friend who had her plan their wedding a few years prior. I am SO grateful they recommended her!
Loren was everything and more that we wanted/​needed for our «month of» planning needs and a few other sessions in between. She was incredibly helpful, patient, enthusiastic, detail-​oriented, and accommodating. She was so thorough in her notes and timelines for our wedding day, and was my absolute go-​to for all questions about vendors in Chicago. She provided excellent recommendations and had great relationships with everyone we chose, which made the process so easy coming down to the last few weeks.
She arrived at my wedding suite the day of and was equally as excited as my husband’s and my family for our big day! The wedding day was such perfection all thanks to Loren taking care of all of the details and ensuring that everything went according to plan. I seriously don’t know how I could have planned and executed so much without her!
I highly, highly recommend if you are looking for a planner in any capacity to ask for Loren!

Jaci made wedding planning a fun and stress free experience. My husband and I are working professionals with busy work schedules. Jaci kept us organized, and was always available for questions and insight. Jaci thoroughly reviewed all vendor contracts to ensure we were receiving fair prices. Jaci knows the right people: every vendor she introduced us to we hired for our wedding. Where do I begin!!? It will be hard for me to put into words how much I love Clementine Custom Events and Julissa Ijaola but here it goes. Julissa is one of the most incredible people I’ve ever met. She is also the most talented person I’ve ever met. She will take the time to listen to you and what you have in mind for your dream wedding and then she will literally bring it to life. From the moment of your first meeting you will feel how hard she wants to work to make this your perfect day (and your fiances). She will be able to work with all the different personalities in your family and be the sweetest most professional person with each person. The most important thing to me was that I wanted to get along with my wedding planner because you will be working closely with her through the whole process and to say I enjoyed working with is an understatement, now that the wedding is over I actually miss her. If you want to give yourself the greatest gift for your wedding journey, hire Julissa and Clemetine Custom Events. We hired Julissa as our day of planner for our October 2015 wedding. Julissa was the PERFECT wedding planner; enthusiastic, diligent, punctual and knowledgeable. I cannot rave enough how wonderful she was from beginning to end. She tackled every problem head on and smoothed it over so effortlessly. I highly recommend hiring her to anyone that is interested in some wedding day help. There were a lot of moving parts considering we rented a space and needed to bring all vendors in. She coordinated music, lighting, catering, furniture rental, you name it she coordinated it. Not only did she tackle this large Greek wedding with patience she also did it with finesse. I had several people approach me after the wedding to tell me what a wonderful job she did. I couldn’t agree more. She was a great right hand woman to have on such a special day. Thanks Jules!

We hired Melissa to do partial planning for our August 2015 Bridgeport Art Center wedding generally, and to do total coordination for catering, décor, and hotel blocks. Hiring Melissa was one of the best decisions we made during the wedding planning process. Now that I’ve seen the work that goes into planning a wedding, particularly all the logistics and details of the wedding day, I cannot imagine putting on our 200+ person wedding without Melissa’s help.
Even though I was a very involved (read: controlling) bride and wanted to oversee every decision and detail, Melissa’s expertise and guidance saved us a lot of time and hassle. Melissa was a joy to work with, did a great of managing our family dynamics, and put everyone at ease. She understood my vision and was respectful of our budget. She had great strategies for where to spend and where to save. We have gotten wonderful feedback from our wedding guests, not to mention the fact that my husband and I were able to enjoy our wedding carefree. Thanks, Melissa!

Planning a wedding is a stressful business! As two very busy professionals, my husband and I knew we couldn’t do it alone. We also happen to be two extremely picky people. I think we ended up interviewing about 8 other wedding planners before instantly clicking with Jaci at Clementine. It was one of the very best decisions we made for our wedding. Jaci is so friendly and super sweet, but she is certainly not a pushover. She’s definitely someone you want on your side to deal with all of the vendors (and crowds when you are trying to push your way onto the Sears tower skydeck box on a busy Saturday night just to get that perfect picture!). All of my wedding party knew that Jaci was in charge — and I was pleasantly surprised when the unruly bunch actually listened to her. There were of course stressful moments (late transportation, a last minute blessing added to the schedule, etc). Jaci handled it all beautifully and kept me calm so I didn’t have to worry about it. Jaci is a true professional, but also a friend that you can count on during this stage in your life. Thank you to Jaci and the team at Clementine for helping give us a beautiful day that we will never forget!

My husband and I knew the best money we would spend on our wedding was for a day of planner and we were right! Kelly put my husband and I at ease as soon as she joined us to help us determine all of the big (and small details) that needed planning. She is friendly, warm, and knowledgeable. I am so happy we had her to know what questions to ask, because without her expertise there would have been so many unexpected bumps in the road we never would have considered. She was friendly, open, and ready to deal with any surprises that inevitably come up on the day. I especially appreciated that she coordinated our vendors, went with me to our final run through, and took care to distribute all flowers to our wedding party and family. We had many pieces of décor and DIY that Kelly and Gracie made possible! Their hands in these tasks saved me a lot of time and worry on a day that is supposed to be about joy and fun! Our timing was seamless the entire day and my husband and I are were able to fully enjoy our wedding without a worry or a problem coming our way. It is very evident working with Kelly and her amazing assistant, Gracie, that they are in it for the people — to provide a perfect day and they did just that for us!

Hiring Clementine Custom Events was one of the best wedding decisions we made! We interviewed several wedding planners for a «month of planner» and we felt so comfortable with Loreen. She was a help with the wedding process from the beginning with many ideas for our 14 hour day. Before the wedding, Loreen was extremely organized. She sent me a Google Doc with a place to add in all the information she would need to organize the day. She also met me at my home and we discussed in detail exactly how the day would go all the way up to timing for speeches and who would walk grandparents in. She was in constant communication with me and the vendors for the entire month so I did not have to check in on anyone. The best part was her meeting me at the venue with the staff and making sure all went to plan including a video montage of my husband and I. Loreen also had signs made for our guests and offered her artistic abilities in creating them.
The day before the wedding, she ran the rehearsal and made sure that our wild wedding coordinator at Madonna Della Strada chapel was in check! The day of, she was nothing short of fantastic! Loreen was on it from 6 am on letting the hair and makeup artists into our hotel room, checking with bridesmaids so they would be on time and meeting the photographer and videographer. She was waiting on me hand and foot so anything I needed the entire day from a Shout pen to advil she was on it! Loreen even checked in on the trolley to make sure we had water. While we were on the trolley, she set up the venue beautifully. Everything was better than I could have done myself from the flowers on the card cake to the photobooth to the band playing at our cocktail hour. The rest of the evening was magical and if anything happened then I never knew about it.
Loreen is a step above the rest and works harder than anyone I know. You should definitely hire her if you want an organized and spectacular event. Thank you Loreen!

My husband and I got married on 7÷11÷15 and had an INCREDIBLE experience working with Clementine Custom Events– specifically Julissa. We had debated about getting a day-​of coordinator for awhile, and as the day got closer, we decided to go for it. We met with one other coordinator outside of Clementine, but as soon as I met with Julissa it was clear she was a perfect fit for us! At the get go, Julissa was super easy to get along with and incredibly organized. Julissa attended the walk through at our event (and was able to ask all of the questions I didn’t even know we should ask!), organized deliveries and vendor set-​ups, and made sure everything ran smoothly. She even met me a few days before our event so that I could hand off all of our supplies! On the day of our wedding, Julissa was absolutely incredible. When our first look location (a rooftop at a local hotel) called me to tell me they could no longer accommodate our first look (30 minutes before we were scheduled to be there), Julissa worked her magic and somehow made it happen. All of our vendors (and the wedding party!) have repeatedly mentioned how great working with Julissa was, so we know we’re not the only ones that loved her!
Truly, I can’t put in to words just how happy I am with our decision to utilize Clementine for their day-​of coordinating skills, and I’m so thrilled that Julissa was able to help make our big day such a successful and fun event. I’m a little bit sad our wedding is over, simply because we won’t be able to work with her anymore! If you’re on the fence about paying for a day of coordinator, I would 100% go for it, especially if you can work with Clementine Custom Events. It was, hands down, the best decision we made in the entire wedding planning process and we’re so happy we had the opportunity to work with Julissa!

We loved Clementine and would recommend them to anyone getting married! We worked with Melissa when we got married in July at the Wit. She was absolutely wonderful making sure all the details were perfect and keeping in constant communication with myself and my family. She really thought of everything and made my planning process so stress free. My fiancée and I could not have asked for a better weekend and we really have Melissa to thank for that!!! My husband and I had an outstanding experience with Clementine for our wedding planning. I was happy to hear that Jaci, an old coworker of mine, was working for a wedding planning company because I had a lot of questions and was unsure if I even wanted to have a wedding planner. As I had worked with her previous and knew her personally, I knew I could reach out to her with all of my questions. She met me for coffee and went over all of the benefits of having a wedding planner and made me feel very comfortable about the process and costs/​benefits. I secured her for my date in July and for the last nine months or so, have been in contact with her as she has kept me on a timeline and reminded me of decisions I need to make.
She is very open with her suggestions and only provides them when asked, and she recommended an outstanding, affordable catering company that was willing to make a Polish buffet from scratch to please my family! As I was on a budget, she also assisted me with picking the most cost-​effective but quality floral company.
As the date of my wedding neared, she was expecting her first baby so she passed me along to Loreen to finish out the planning and be there on the wedding day. Loreen and Jaci went over all aspects together so it was as if I didn’t even need to update Loreen on anything! In addition, last minute, Loreen was able to make some awesomely-​designed signs for my event that matched my wedding invitations!
The wedding was a success, no hiccups at all, and the entire week of the wedding, different people from all over (grocery store, bakery, family, etc) told me I was the calmest, least-​stressed bride they’d ever seen. That’s why you go with Clementine, so you have the time to focus on the actual marriage part of getting married!

You cannot go wrong with Clementine! We worked with Melissa for our wedding at Salvage One in January and I cannot say enough great things about working with her. Melissa was there for us every step of the way and she was absolutely fantastic!
She took care of every detail and everything went perfectly so we were allowed to enjoy our big day. Melissa and her team were there to anticipate every need and they made our wedding unforgettable and better than I could have ever wished for.
If you want an spectacular event, Clementine is the way to go!

Loren is the best. Leading up to the day, her relaxed demeanor even in the face of stressful moments made me feel safe. She told me exactly what I needed to know, and nothing more.
She was proactive. Loren thought of things I never in a million years would have thought of and made everything run smoothly. I was truly able to enjoy the day because I was 100% confident that Loren was already working on whatever I was thinking about.
Lastly, Loren was amazing to work with. Her positive attitude reminded me that even though things were stressful, that this was supposed to be fun.

One year after my wedding and people are STILL raving about it! My husband and I had a huge wedding at the River East Art Center (since closed) and Kelly and her team made the entire process so easy and fun!
Over the wedding planning year, Kelly became a friend. She eased any anxious moments and listened to my every crazy whim. I remember after the reception ended, I turned to her and said, «Who am I going to email all the time now?!» Of course all the normal wedding planner type things happened throughout the year, meetings with floral vendors, advice on food menus, yada yada yada… all of that stuff was great too– but it was the personal things that really meant more to me.
My parents were not very involved in the wedding planning process. Not because they didn’t care, but because they know I am pretty independent with things like this. However, on the day of the wedding, Kelly made sure they felt super important. My dad, ie: the bank, felt like every penny we spent was well worth it. I could see how proud he was. I could not have seen that smile without Kelly’s help and guidance.
Hiring Clementine was the best decision… other than marrying my husband:)

Melissa S. and Clementine Custom Events have truly convinced me of the importance of an event planner. Our wedding was flawless. We opted for the «day of» option, since we had the majority of our vendors booked by the time we decided to consider a wedding coordinator. But, Melissa gave us so much more than that. She reminded us of things we had never even considered. She answered every call, every emailed question, and on the day of the event, everything was a complete dream.
As many of you know, when you plan your own wedding from the ground up, you are intimately invested in every single detail. I was terrified that I would notice little things that were out of place or not as originally planned. But with Melissa, there wasn’t even the possibility of this. She was EVERYWHERE at every minute… I honestly can’t tell you about all the details she handled, because once things were in her hands, they were handled.
Thank you so much to Melissa and her team for executing our wedding and making it such a special day! And as icing on the cake, she is one of the friendliest, warmest people you will ever meet! I actually miss talking with her!

This is a long overdue 5 star rating for Clementine. Loren C. was our amazing do all, fix everything, be everywhere for our wedding. If anything went wrong, I had no idea. My groomsmen, who by nature could be a little rowdy said they were so impressed with how she had everything in order that they didn’t want to upset her!!! My wife loved having Loren with her through some of the most important times during the day, mainly getting ready and getting everyone together on time. The day went so smooth.
Pros: The price for helping us find a venue and the day of service was a tremendous value. My mother commented with how amazing Loren was updating her as needed so my family was able to enjoy the day and not worry about the little things.
Cons: Well none really, except that we don’t get to chat with Loren and get excited about our event!!!
Take the time to hire people who have experience in the business and know how to do the things you desire for special events.

We worked with Melissa to plan our wedding and could not be happier. Melissa was there to help us throughout the entire process, from choosing a venue, to meeting with florists, caterers, photographers, etc. She is extremely insightful, and welcomed any questions or concerns that we had. Melissa is very well organized and always made us aware of upcoming deadlines. Everything was so well put together that we did not have to worry about anything the day of. She made the day flow seamlessly and we could not have done it without her. Her upbeat and positive attitude made her a joy to be around. We highly recommend Clementine Custom Events and Melissa. Hiring Loren from Clementine Custom Events to be our day-​of coordinator was the best wedding decision that we made! She is absolutely fantastic and I will be recommending her to everyone I know who is planning a wedding!
I interviewed a couple of companies and knew I wanted Loren right away. She was extremely helpful, insightful and friendly, and gave me a ton of good ideas before I had even chosen her!
Also, with Clementine Custom Events a day-​of coordinator is so much more than that! From six weeks out Loren and I were in constant communication while she answered questions, put together a detailed timeline and coordinated everything with my vendors. She is extremely organized, detail oriented and really goes above and beyond to make your wedding special.
Then came wedding weekend. Loren coordinated the entire rehearsal and then was phenomenal on my wedding day. She took care of all of the details you don’t want to have to worry about — making sure we were on time, picking up our cake from Sweet Mandy B’s, overseeing setup at the venue, handing out final payments and packing up my sweets table vessels. I’m sure I don’t even realize all of the million things she took care of for me!
I didn’t have to worry about a thing and instead was able to really enjoy the big day! If I could give 10 stars I really would — if you are thinking of having a day-​of coordinator Loren is the best choice by far!

Kelly and Mary were fantastic to work with! Tied for first with best wedding vendors I worked with.
We hired Clementine for day of coordination and I can tell you, Kelly did more than just day of services. She worked on timelines with us starting a month out, and really put my mind at ease. She was there to answer any and all questions (since logistics scare me) and was great not only the day of, but at the rehearsal and at the very end of the night. Kelly asked us questions that I would have never thought about, and was always there with suggestions and ideas from past wedding experiences.
Whenever we told our vendors who we hired for day of coordination they would look so relieved and happy when we said Clementine.
I seriously can’t imagine having a wedding without Kelly to be the calming, positive presence. If I was doing it all over again, I would have had Kelly style the event too, since I know she is so great at her job – and it is so hard planning a wedding on your own!
