Designer Resale of Chicago

The collection in the store is for a middle aged woman.
Pricing is average for a resale shop.
More random pieces than coordinated pieces.
I didn’t care for the unfriendly sales ladies. Previous Unilocalers mentioned the «snooty tooties» and I concur.

The women who run this store are nuts! I saw a beautiful silver leather boho belt I wanted, but it didn’t have a price tag. They told me that they couldn’t sell it to me, because they had no way to identify the person who gave it to them on consignment. I offered to pay up to 50 $, far more than any other belt of the rack — and they refused my payment. Instead, they are storing it in the basement until the person who donated the belt shows up. Please don’t shop here — ever. Horrible customer service.

This is a nice shop and the employees were very helpful. Although I didn’t find anything today, their labels were amazing, the clothes were in good condition, and the prices were excellent. The only negative comment I have, is that the inventory, like the shop itself, was rather small.

I don’t they are unfriendly I think they are very reserved, and focused. They are quite pleasant when you engage them. Definitely an older business woman feel to the finds. Excellent quality, however.

Shopping strong here for over 10 years.

My first purchase was a Céline bag, before it was cool to carry that brand.
I still have it .
My next addiction was Fendi, so many fabulous finds.
Louis Vuitton was next, a complete set of classic signature luggage is now my favorite traveling buddy.
Chanel bags, & Jackets have been added along the way.
Boots and shoes a continuous journey.
…My ultimate goal has always been a Birkin 40, and finally it is now mine. HALF OF RETAIL SERIOUSLY…
(it took 10 years to get exactly the color and hardware I coveted)
I can’t imagine paying retail for any of these items.

Don’t be put off with first impressions,
They have the high end merchandise.
This store can take you from the beach to the boardroom, a comprehensive selection of everyday wear to the luxury finds everyone thinks happens to everyone else.
I am proof that fab finds are out there.
I visit designer resale about once a week,
I also call and check out the online store and Facebook page during the week if I have my eye on something.
I have learned though… to BUY IT IMMEDIATELY, because I have lost out on a great deal several times.
I know all the girls working there, they know what I like, I’ll get the occasional call if an exceptional item comes in.
I always make time to go there if I get a call. (that’s how I bought my Berkin)
Best advice, if you are thinking of going to Designer Resale, take your time to go through the racks, don’t be snobby or disrespectful, you’ll get it right back.
This is not a thrift store, it’s designer resale as the name says. There is NO AGE limit with designer resale. young and older all shop here,
give it a chance or 10.
Good clothes have no age. just saying…

Stopped in here with my friend after work. I found the stuff there to be more appropriate for older women (i.e. 60 and above) and overpriced for the brands and quality of the merchandise. We read the Unilocal reviews about the rude staff there but they were welcoming towards us though we didn’t stay that long. The store had a bit of that musty attic smell you get from vintage shops but was well organized by size and type of apparel. They have shoes and bags in the periphery of the store and some higher priced items in locked cases. Overall I don’t think I’ll be going back just because the style is just too old for me.

Sales people are not the friendliest folks. The merchandise is definitely over priced but if you want a high end, used bag for a few hundred less, this is your place.

I just stop by this place today. OK! Two ladies they might look rude but they made me miss my grandma. She also look rude and aggressive all the time but she is very kind. just the way they talk and do look rude and aggressive.
I can feel that because I tried to sell my LV bag to them and they say they have to share ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ with me and I think they know what is I expect. They told me my bag purchased on November, I better return to LV shop (but they didn’t see the date)
Some of you guys might feel upset because you brought your bags with box and drive to their place and get only half price of money that you paid. but guys! this is their policy and they didn’t put a gun or knife at your head and say you must sell it to them, like me today I just say thank you and bring it back and keep selling on ebay and craiglist.

Just called and talked with person from store. I had some things I was considering to bringing in. They are very expensive, so probably will get the best profit. They don’t take Joseph Ribcoff. Was informed they have two racks of new stuff from a nearby boutique. And other than that, not much in my closet that will meet their criteria. However, the were interested in the 7 Gucci purses I have that are in excellent condition. They take 50 percent and I can do a lot better than that on EBAY or selling them on my own. Hope they do well on their own merit, because they will not win customers over based on their customer service or warm and fuzzies. Been in there a few times (live in the Gold Coast) and they are not too warm and fuzzy. Don’t need them though… to many other places who have better terms and good clientele.

The two women who work there are the rudest people I ever met. They kept repeating that they were closing at 5 when we enter at 4:30. Another customer was there and the two ladies kept saying that they close at five. Finally one of the ladies told that customer «you have a lot of things in your hands. Are you going to try them on because we are closing.» Then the other lady came over and said we like to go home on time. I have worked in retail for years and never would I treat a customer — the source of my livelihood– so badly. In addition, all of their stuff is overpriced for resale. Chanel purses were $ 2800. Really, I could get the same purse completely new for a couple of hundred more.

I think a great deal of the merchandise I saw was severely overpriced, especially considering it is a consignment shop. You’ll certainly find quality items here, but perhaps if the prices were lowered to a more reasonable level then more people would give their patronage.

I’m honestly shocked at the negativity bc I had an amazing experience at Designer Resale of Chicago. I bought a LV Manhattan PM for a tiny fraction of what it should have cost. What can I say, Marc Jacobs + Louis Vuitton = heaven!!! The ladies who work there were super nice to me and even offered a layaway option & showed me a LV shoulder strap that matched the bag (unforch it didn’t fit on the handles bc the hardware on the Manhattan is chunkier than a Speedy or an Alma otherwise I would have bought it too). I’m super sorry to hear that others had a negative experience there bc I had quite the opposite!

I walk by this place all the time and against my better judgement (based on the items in the window) I decided to take a peek. The woman that works there was so rude that I literally walked directly back out of the store. The glimpse that I did get made me feel like I was at a garage sale. Don’t waste you time, you will just be annoyed.

I totally agree with the previous post. The lady who owns the store is horribly unprofessional and rude. I was also interested in purchasing a few items until she snapped at me because I was holding a cup of ice water in her dilapidated store. Her items smell, and are overpriced. Do not go to Designer Resale. I will never step foot in there again.

The owner of this store is one of the most stuck up people I have ever met in my life. She thinks she is above everyone because she sells vintage designer stuff that smells like it came straight out of a basement rotting for years. Her stuff is overpriced– and the one bag I considered purchasing– well let’s just say the owners lack of professionalism and sincereness turned me off for good.
