Gingersnap Sweets & Such

Gingersnap made our wedding cake in June, and we were very satisfied! Jen was great to work with and accommodating to our needs. We wanted to keep it simple, but incorporate our succulent theme in the cake, and they did an awesome job making it happen. Not to mention the cake was delicious, and we had plenty of compliments! Highly recommended!

I recently hosted a fundraiser for St. Baldrick’s and Jen catered the sweets table. I gave her very few guidelines other than skipping bacon as a topping and to include something that was gluten-​free.
A couple days before the event, I asked Jen if I should get forks and knives or just forks. She said that I wouldn’t even need forks and she was right. The sweets table was a wonderful variety of bite-​size desserts that fit every taste and dietary restriction.
There was mini-​hot chocolate with marshmallow, coconut roche, Madelines, pumpkin seed brittle and chocolate mousse. Everyone was able to make 2 – 3 visits to the sweets table and my friends continue to rave about each of their favorites.
Jen is very professional and delivered on time, on budget and the desserts were even better than I imagined.

I called Jen two weeks before my wedding to ask whether she would be able to make our wedding cake. I was not expecting her to say «yes» and that it would be «no problem at all», but she did!
Together, with my mother-​in-​law, Jen coordinated everything from the design, flavor, pricing, and delivery.
The cake was delicious and even after our 18 guests had their fill, we had plenty to take home with us.
I highly recommend Gingersnap Sweets & Such. Great cake-​Great service.

MOST delicious chocolate hazelnut scones EVER!

What a gem! This place has the most delicious desserts and pastries. Every time my boyfriend and I go in, the staff is super friendly. Follow them on Instagram and you can see what extraordinary sweets await!

Actually I WAS a former customer, not sure how or why you would say I wasn’t. Very poor service, end of story and way overpriced. Please don’t comment on posts and frame them as if it is the CUSTOMER’s (former in this case) fault. Very poor way to respond to Unilocal reviews.

Jen from Gingersnap designed our wedding cake and cookies. We came to Jen with only a vague idea of what we wanted, and she patiently talked us through all the options and came up with a concept we were very excited about. She made a small cake (chocolate with salted caramel filling and buttercream frosting), which was absolutely delicious. Jen even make decorative flowers out of sugar that exactly matched our wedding flowers. Jen make two different kinds of cookies for our dessert table as well (tiered chocolate cookies with cream filling and Breton cookies). These were both some of the best cookies I’ve ever tasted, and our guests were very impressed. The prices were reasonable and Jen was very responsive and easy to work with. I highly recommend Gingersnap for a wedding!

We had the pleasure of having GingerSnap Sweets & Such make our Wedding cake for us. From the tasting to the delivery, the service was excellent. Jen, the owner/​baker was a delight to work with. She provided a variety of cake samples with different cakes and fillings. We chose one cake and the filling from another, a delicious Cocoa cake with blueberry compote and a smooth lemon buttercream finish. The edible pansies and sugar calla lilies and blossoms absolutely made the cake one of the most beautiful I’ve seen. Every one of our guests raved about the wonderful taste.

I recently had the chance to sample the divine delicacies produced by Jen at Gingersnap Sweets & Such during a weekend trip to Chicago – I was staying at an Airbnb place right around the corner. I had never heard of this place and was just sent into nirvana at the taste of the stunning scratch-​baked croissants and savory quiche! The croissant crust rose in a crunchy feulle (as it should – indicating layers and layers of pure, sweet butter). Perfect with the foamy cappuccino, prepared by the baker herself. The quiche, which had clearly never been refrigerated, had a buttery crisp crust which is what all quiche aspires to be.
Jen is clearly committed to providing sublime baked goods made from only the finest ingredients. I am raving to all my friends, and will definitely be back when my travels bring me back to the city.

Jen was fantastic from start to finish and the cake was not only beautiful but it also tasted amazing! We not only thought Jen was very economical, but she was a pleasure to work with. My wife, her mother, aunt, and uncle all went to the cake tasting (I stayed home to watch college football) and they all came back talking about how pleasant Jen was. Such a sparkling personality!
The cake was a red velvet cake that looked amazing! Too good to eat even.. .but of course we did and it was delicious!

Jen from gingerSnap designed the most perfect wedding cake for my wedding. She was a breeze to work with! She met with me and my fiancée (now husband) months in advance to listen to our needs and learn about our wedding plans. We followed up a few weeks later for a tasting, for which Jen had prepared about 5 different cake options for us, in addition to a sketch of a design she had in mind. The tasting was amazing! Everything was so delicious and the sketch was exactly what we had envisioned. We knew right away that we were going to be in good hands with Jen. The end result was truly perfect. We went with a brown buttered almond cake with raspberry filling — a wonderful summer option! The design came out amazing — a beautiful hand-​piped lace design that coordinated with our overall wedding look. The cake itself tasted delicious. It was so soft and moist with just the perfect amount of sweetness. The quality was decadent. Many of our guests raved about how delicious it was.

For my birthday, I decided that I would take a pastry tour. This meaning, I would visit pastry shops around the city and choose the items on the menu that looked amazing… I mean, I just turned 31. Isn’t that how one celebrates their 31^st year?! When I visited Gingersnap, I indulged in the Tart Cherry & Hazelnut Bostock, then paired it with a Strawberry-​Lime-​Basil float (with vanilla gelato). I nearly weeped tears of joy because it was so delicious. Fun fact? They make their own syrups and are able to blend flavors, if desired.

…and it was amazing. This is how I was able to have a float of such flavorful intensity. I plan on coming back soon — and I strongly encourage you to visit as soon as possible.

Stopped by on a HowAboutWe Couples date for gelato floats, ended up trying bacon cheese scones, gooey butter cake & a cherry almond tartlet. All were AMAZING! Staff was sweet, friendly & attentive. The young lady that helped us offered great suggestions for the floats-​esp the cherry soda with vanilla gelato (the vanilla soda with salted caramel gelato was great too).
The savory scones were so wonderful that we got 2 more of them & 2 more gooey butter cakes for breakfast the next day & they were just as good! Will definitely spread the word & be back for more treats whenever we’re in the area (& even if we’re nowhere near it).

Sooo good. We had the broccoli cheddar quiche and the prosciutto Swiss roll thing at bowtruss in lakeview this morning. Definitely need more of these in my life.

I just devoured a most delicious scone! Perfectly balanced with savory & sweet notes and just the right amount of salt. The flavor was hazelnut and chocolate with neither flavor being overpowering and both working in harmony.
Such a delicate and crumbly delight, I could easily eat something like this every day with every cup of coffee I consume. But I drink a lot of coffee and that probably wouldn’t be too good for my waste line.

I was visiting Graceland and decided to pop in here for a treat first. Couldn’t be happier I did so.
The woman working behind the counter was absolutely wonderful. My friend and I kept changing our minds about what to get, and she couldn’t be more accommodating. I got a rhubard pastry swirl (can’t remember the actual name) and my friend got a ginger cookie. Both were very flavorful, and brought out the taste of the rhubarb/​ginger used. (Note to self: no matter how many times you try it, you can’t really get ourself to like rhubarb. Stop getting this with it even though it’s a pretty color.)
Additionally, I ordered a hot chocolate. Yes in May. Yes I love my hot chocolate. This was one of the best I’ve had! They asked me if I preferred if more carmel-​y or bitter. I was so happy about this because am more sensitive to sweetness than average and often end up with drinks that are way to sweet for my liking. Can’t wait to come back in the winter and have another one of these warm me up!

Back over at Gingersnap the other day for a pastry fix. I wish I could remember the names of the things I had. Suffice to say it was all terribly incredible. Sadly she was out of quiche, but fed us something very similar with carmelized onions in the egg. Oh was that lovely. We also had a sour cherry tart of some sort made with a fancy cheese (I don’t recall the type so let’s wing it and say fromage!). I still have yet to try a pasty, because they’re always sold out by the time I get over there. It’s going to happen sooner or later though.
Oh and Jen happens to have some of the best coffee on the north side. She made me the best Americano I’ve had all year. Correction. She made me TWO of the best Americanos I’ve had all year.
Jen is fun. Her talent is obvious. Get over here and indulge thyself toot sweet.

I Popped in this morning and picked up some treats to take to my kid’s mom/​dad and tot class and decided on an assortment of mini loaves, marshmallows, coconut rocher, and a hot chocolate.
The service was A+ super awesome and everything was so delicious! All the parents in the class kept asking where I got the little cakes!

Sweet little shop! They have delicious bakery treats, a great tea selection, and friendly service. It’s right on my way to the freeway– dangerous when I have a sweet tooth.
The only downfall for these guys is that Asado coffee is a couple paces away and their coffee can’t be beat. If I need serious caffeine, I’ll definitely go to Asado, but otherwise it’s nice to support the new guys on the block and get a great cookie at the same time. Also saw recently that Asado is selling some of Gingersnap’s treats– love this kind of friendly Chicago partnering!

I work about 3 doors away from this place and after walking by it for about a week or two I finally decided to go in this morning — I am so glad I did!
The woman who served me (maybe the owner?) was super friendly and helpful, which would make me want to support the business even if the food and drinks sucked but, they don’t! In fact, the zucchini baked thingy (damn it, I forgot what it was called) was just what I needed this morning. It was the Goldilocks of a salty breakfast treat. I could go for another right now but it was also the perfect size, so I won’t. ;)
