I called Guardian to handle starting our boiler on a new two-​flat that we purchased. Called in a timely way and was very courteous and helpful and kind. He identified the problem as a low gas meter and waiting until Peoples Gas came. They repaired the meter and then he waited to make sure everything worked; which on the first try did not. He figured out the problem and got the boiler going
I have a lot of faith in this technician and Guardian. Well done!

We have hot water heat in our bungalow. Guardian installed central air with air handler in our attic 21 years ago. Blower motor went belly up on a recent very hot day. Guardian installed a temporary motor to give us air and air expressed a new motor from Arkansas. Installed the permanent motor when it arrived the next day. These guys are awesome. Outstanding customer service.

Our AC unit broke last week and right away we knew we were going to have issues finding a company that could service our unit on the roof of our townhouse that has no access other than a 40ft ladder. After calling around several places unable to check our unit we found Guardian which had a opening the next day and could handle the service no problem. They were great at giving us a defined quote for the service call which was competitive and called about 20 mins before the guys were to arrive at our place.
Both technicians were great, very helpful and informative when explaining the issue our unit was having, tips for extending the life of the unit, as well as giving us a rundown of the model for our records. Luckily the issue was fixed pretty easily and at a price much lower than we were expecting. All in all this was a great experience and we will definitely use them again in the future if we have any further issues

Seriously fantastic. Mike showed up right on time, and the company called me 30 minutes before to confirm. He was friendly, and really compassionate in helping me deal with a stressful basement flood issue. He made sure to check everything I asked about multiple times and reassured me so I felt so comfortable. Awesome, awesome, awesome. You were the one bright light in a really awful week, Mike. Ask your boss for a raise!

I called on a Saturday when my furnace was making an extremely loud noise. The customer service person was helpful and even let me speak with a Service Tech. I decided to schedule with them. This was the first time using Guardian, and I was very pleased. My service tech was Mike, he was willing to start at the least expensive fix and lucky for me — the 2^nd option worked. He was willing to show and explain all aspects of the repair and even took the time to explain the importance of changing the air filter monthly. Oh, and no need to buy the pricey ones… the cheap ones actually work better on the high efficiency furnace. Very happy and will use them (hopefully not soon!!) in the future. Thank you Mike and Guardian!!!

I used them mainly for maintenance for a few years, but I finally had to use them when half of the heat in our house stopped working. Four visits later, 700 dollars broker, and 2 missed days of work, and my problem hasn’t been solved. Woke up again today with no heat. I’ve moved on to another company, I’m so frustrated I don’t even have the patience to try to get my money returned.

My heater got messed up this winter for no apparent reason and I was freezing cold so I needed this to be fixed as soon as possible so I gave this company a call. Right away I was scheduled an appointment and somebody showed up to fix my heater. The job was done very quickly which I was very surprised and now my heater is working perfectly and I am nice and warm now! Thank you so much

Guardian all day. I’ve utilized them 2x’s. Both times I was in a bind. Once for a/​c and once for a furnace. Maybe I’m lucky but their service men are on point and drop knowledge… One could argue it’s on the pricey side but you get what you pay for.

A pleasure to deal with. Today Liz scheduled the appointment and Brad showed up on time with the Rheem furnace inducer I needed and installed it in only 45 minutes! All service calls should go so smoothly. Thank you Guardian team!

I’ve used this company many times as I own and service many investment properties. The investors I work with also have been using their services for the properties they manage. I have found that most of the servicemen that do the work are competent and polite. In one instance, nothing was actually done, but we were charged almost $ 400 to service the unit. When the issue resurfaced again a couple months later, they again charged us because we were not within the warranty period. When you call the company to explain the recurrence of issues, they go out of their way to deny any responsibility in an attempt to prevent having to send someone back out to resolve the issue. They are rude and difficult to deal with. I am surprised that they are so well reviewed. I will be advising all my fellow investors to discontinue using their services.

Brad quickly came out the next morning to fix the multiple issues and apologize for the horrible service I received the day before. Brad is always great to work with, and I will make sure to always request him for future service appointments. I also received a call from the business manager to apologize and try to make the situation better – a nice touch I wasn’t expecting.

I would give Guardian a much higher rating than 5 stars. They are the best. After having a few heating & cooling services out here, Guardian proved to be the most knowledgeable group of guys to fix my AC and heating. Whenever I have an issue I call them and I know it will be done right.

They came on very short notice on Tuesday, the second day of the arctic whatever – when I’m sure half of Chicago was looking for HVAC guys. My guy was extremely pleasant and helpful and fixed the issue (which required going onto the bitterly cold roof to clear the intake exhaust pipes which had frozen over).

I LOVE Guardian Heating & Cooling! Their office staff is friendly. Their technicians are knowledgable, patient and thorough. They come when they promise and call you 20 mins in advance to give you a heads up.
Being a contracted customer helps a lot — they come out immediately whenever there are issues.
I’m so glad I signed up for regular service with them — gives me peace of mind! I happily referred them to a neighbor who was having issues with the setup of their hot water heater. 3 of her contractors got it wrong — Guardian diagnosed the issue right away. Go Guardian!

Called to get a technician out to replace a burned out blower on my central air system. The operator informed me that it would cost ~$ 130 just to get the guy out to the house and any parts/​service performed would be in addition to that fee. Maybe this is typical of all HVAC companies these days (if so I will remove this review after looking elsewhere) but it sounded excessive to me. I appreciate that they don’t want to waste their time with lookie-​loos just getting a second bid, but if I’m sinking $ 1000+ on upgrades/​repairs I’d expect the diagnosis to be included.
I can’t speak to the quality of service, but I’m sharing this data to save others the phone call.

Great company to deal with. They are very easy to work with and the service tech’s have always been professional. I recently signed a 3 yr agreement with them and have nothing bad to say. I had to reschedule last minute appointments several times and they were always accommodating.
Service techs always explain what they are doing and make sure I understand what they are doing. Very pleased with the company and the service they provide.

A/​C repair is expensive, and you can expect it to be even more expensive inside the big city, but it’s much easier to write that check when you feel a good level of trust and confidence in the person doing the work.
I had to have two people out, because when the first serviceman came my building’s maintenance man was already gone so we couldn’t get to the roof where he needed to access the compressor. Still, Frank was very personable and checked as much as he could, and even explained to me how some of the equipement works, why certain settings exist, and how to use them.
The next morning I made sure to secure access to the roof before Guardian came back. This time I had Javier, who was super friendly and spent a lot of time explaining what he was doing, why it was necessary, and how things work in these systems. He even found a sensor that appeared to have been disconnected (I say sabotaged) by a previous repairman, and explained that disconnecting this sensor could very possibly have caused a situation where the system vents freon during hot summers, making it necessary to have servicemen out again every year. He fixed that up, filled the freon, and chatted with me about the Blackhawks and the Bulls.
Nobody likes writing a check for $ 400+ in service, but I feel confident that I called the right people, and if I need service again, Guardian will be my first choice.

Woke up this morning to a cold house. I called the «24 Hour Service» number for the company I’ve used in the past, and after no one called me back in an hour I started browsing Unilocal.I chose Guardian based on their reviews, their rating with the BBB, and the fact that they are located in my neighborhood.
I called about 7:45am. The woman told me they could get someone out that morning, but she couldn’t say exactly when just yet. About 20 minutes later, a tech called and said he’d be at my house in 15 minutes — and he was! Turns out it was a bad igniter. I hate the fact that you’re basically at the mercy of service personnel, since they could tell you it was a bad flux capacitor, and you’d have know way of knowing if it were true or how much it should cost.
So I asked Javier how he knew that’s what it was, and he was very nice in showing me the old one and the new one, and he showed me on the service sticker that it’d been 8 years since a new one was put it in. After he replaced it, he stuck around to check CO levels, and cleaned off the flame sensor, which had caused problems in the past. Very polite, professional, and was done just after my old company finally called me back.
After he left, I did some googling to see if the charges were reasonable, and they were — so, I will definitely use Guardian in the future and would recommend them highly.

Thanks to you Unilocalers, I’ve been using these guys for a few years now. I can’t believe I haven’t written a review yet. Well, it’s long overdue!
I started using them about three years ago when we had a problem with our ac. Another company came out and said we needed a new ac unit for $ 6k. Guardian came out and fixed the problem for $ 800, they told us that would hold for maybe a year, but three years later it was still going strong.
This past september, we decided to get a new ac unit and had it replaced for $ 4500…$ 1500 less than the quote from Unique Air three years ago!!!
So, this week, my downstairs neighbor emails me that she’s having a problem with her furnace and that she believed it was due to some water damage that she had from our unit last summer. Her complaint wasn’t that it didn’t work, but that it made a hissing sound. Her company, Aaron’s Heating and Air Conditioning Repair, came out and told her, basically, that she should replace the whole unit (which she just got from them five years ago). Since my husband and I were going to have to pay, I called Guardian for a second opinion. Josh came out, openned the furnace, and couldn’t find ANYTHING wrong with it. Then he looked at the filter. SURPRISE! it hadn’t been cleaned in eons!!! The hissing sound was the air trying to get through a very clogged filter! And guess what, no new furnace needed! THANK YOU GUARDIAN!!!
Overall, my experience with all of the service people that have come out here is that they are knowledgable, professional, friendly, and most importantly, honest!

So we hear this weird buzzing noise at the end of March. Turns out our a/​c unit froze up though it hadn’t been in use since last summer.
We called Guardian and someone came out that day in very short order. Props for that! Our repair person told us it was some gizmo, $ 260 and he’ll fix it right away. Props for that too! He said all the monstrous amounts of snow killed the gizmo, though our unit is pretty well protected from direct snow.
Just a hair over a month later, that random week of hot weather blows through and the unit stops working, doing the same exact buzzing thing. It wasn’t in use until that hot weather. We called Guardian back and they came pretty quickly, the same repair person. He pops things open, checks wires, pushes something, it comes on but he says it’s really ill. I ask him, well, that’s odd since it hasn’t been run until this week. He says it happens. A/​c units aren’t meant to be run in this heat, they overheat. Ok.
He goes inside, checks a coil in the furnace, checks the thermostat, changes the filter. He tells me the thermostat is broken. Ok.
So???
He says I need to replace the fan motor for $ 600 and the compressor as well which he needs to get a price on… well, you may as well just get a whole new unit. Here’s a quote for $ 3875. And by the way, our service warranty is only for 30 days so I need to charge you another $ 95 for this call. I said, huh? I went inside to get a check, call the husband since he dealt with the guy the first time and by the time I’m coming back out he tells me the guy in the office waives the $ 95. Ok, that’s kind, thank you.
We decide to get a second opinion and was told by another company that all that needs replacing is the fan motor. That’s causing other things to stress on the unit, get the haywire readings the first guy got and the thermostat isn’t broken. At this point I’m starting to wonder if the initial repair we had done with Guardian was even necessary, if we got taken.
Up to you if you use them. They respond quickly but this second company told my husband the repair guy didn’t know what he was talking about.
**** Update, the day after my review…
It really says a lot to me about a company who takes their business seriously and cares about what others say about them. I received a message through Unilocal from Bob the owner of the company and a phone call from Andrea, the office manager, based on my review from last night.
Andrea took the time to talk to me, review both of my service experiences, ask questions and expressed her concern and apologies. She said they take customer dissatisfaction very seriously, she would speak with the owner today and follow up with me in the afternoon. With great efficiency, she followed up with me faster than I expected.
The end result is that they are issuing a full refund for my initial service call. It’s too hard to say whether or not the repair was needed at this point, which is understandable and not a knock on their abilities at all, that keeping a customer happy is far more important than keeping my money.
I really appreciate their time, effort and willingness to work through this with me and through multiple levels within the company. In times like these where most businesses could give two diddlies about customers, it’s nice to know that some people do actually still care.
