Perfect place to get a pint and watch the game. This small feel bar delivers a great experience. Highly recommended stopping in

An incredibly warm and engaging staff coupled with a cozy atmosphere makes higgins tavern a must for anyone who chooses the more relaxed nights out in lake view. This isn’t going to be a place you order a $ 20 cocktail or your ridiculously small plate to «share», Higgins’ is the ideal spot for a couple of friends to snack on buttery popcorn while drinking a cold and truly enjoying each other’s company. Definitely try it out!

Best beer garden in Chicago. Cornhole and basketball outside. Upstairs balcony too. Also check out the Guinness while you’re there. Fitting for a Michigan State bar.

Great little tavern, centralized in the middle of a residential neighborhood in wrigleyville. We had a company meet and greet here prior to the cubs game. It was $ 25 all you can eat and drink(beers). The food was pretty good — catered meatballs, baked ziti and wings. All items were good, except for the wings. The owner walked around to talk to his customer which was very personable. The bar is decorated with cubs and Michigan state memorabilia. Obviously the owner went to Michigan state and is a cubs fan. Great friendly atmosphere and staff!

five stars because this is Chicago. neighborhood bars kept the townies drunk for generations and that was a good thing. Everyone wasn’t such a shit head back then. Being a shit happens when you drink at and on Clark near the field. I’m not going to say they have the greatest selection of beer because they don’t. It’s a nice place to piss and eat popcorn in.

This place is great. Small neighborhood bar in the big city. The night I was there they had made crab cake appetizers on the house. A crab cake with a little hot sauce and a cold beer. Can’t beat it.

Great neighborhood bar. The bartenders are so friendly. The Saturday night bartender is really my favorite. The owner Jim may be the best bar owner ever. I’m going for employee of the decade LOL We all know either bill or Jose have that locked up. Hope all my friends and people I’ve served continue to keep coming in. Don’t forget to come in for soccer friendlys. Yea that’s not gonna happen.

I love this little neighborhood bar! It’s a shift-work bar, so all kinds of people go there after work. We went in on a bar-crawl on a whim… I really wanted to go and it was close enough and REALLY snowy! Higgins’ Tavern was warm and inviting. The barkeep was very nice and even let us play with the set of dice. They have popcorn machine too! The bathrooms are clean!!! The Bar is very clean too! Food specials are offered, though we didn’t eat any. They have special events too — a chili cook-off coming up(and I’m excited to go). Its a great, friendly neighborhood place that I’m glad is nearby!

If you don’t give this place 5 stars then you probably don’t belong there. This place is AMAZING! I love dive bars because of the blue collar nature, the community, and the atmosphere. This place does not disappoint. Definitely head there on Sundays. Jim, the owner, cooks up an amazing(ANDFREE) buffet of food for everyone to enjoy. It’s like having a bunch if your friends over to watch the games. It just feels like home. Except with a better beer selection!

Visiting friends in the neighborhood and this is their dive. The bartender, Dimitri, was a real nice guy. It’s a Michigan State bar which should merit a 2 star, but since Ohio State rarely has a problem with Sparty I could overlook it. They actually rep the MSU thing well with organized trips to games that I saw posted in the bathroom. It was uncrowded on a Saturday night but the drinks were well poured and they had popcorn. Just like a dive bar should.

Old School Tavern that opens at 7am/Popcorn Machine/LOCALS! If you’re not a local then don’t complain about this joint, they haven’t been here for 50 years for nothing! gdd

Wow. what a wonderful treasure near Cheesie’s(aka if you’re looking for food afterwards that is delicious and of course grilled cheese). Came here on a part of a bachelorette night out in Chicago. The owner and bartender are so friendly. and we had such a great time there. It’s not too crowded and they have a fair amount of locals that trickle in here. There is a popcorn machine in the corner which has delicious popcorn. And this place is good at serving a ton of shots when you call them out quickly. The one I’d stay away from is the dragon ball. They also had this dice roll thing that somebody showed me. You roll three of a kind you get the entire pot. It’s $ 200+ right now. Oh. and the best part is that the entire bill was like $ 120. Maybe it was because we were with somebody who was Higgins(not by relation but that’s how we found this place). The only downside was the pizza. didn’t look that great. So minus one star for that.

I became a patron of Higgins’ Tavern due to a dear friend who happens to be a Higgins’ herself(not related). So I must confess that when we all go there, we’re pretty much treated like family. And what does family do for you? Well, they basically support any type of shenanigan you would like to get yourself into despite what all decency and common sense dictate. I’ve never gone to the Tavern for a quiet drink and a night of solitude. This is a place where you find yourself chatting up a bunch of young hipsters about foreign policy at one table, arguing with a good friend from home about the military at the bar stool and getting hit on by someone your dad’s age at the juke box. All things are possible at Higgins Tavern, but it is dependent on your attitude and ability to have fun. A couple of things stand out to me about this place: 1) There is a giant popcorn maker in the corner 2) There is a sign that suggests they serve swordfish here 3) A tamale guy shows up right around the time you should be going home but if you eat a bag of them, you’ll be good to stay out even later than you planned 4) The servers and staff can handle your crazy

Unbelievable! I walked in to this place at 10am and asked to watch ESPN2. The owner Jim Higgins was the only one there. He asked what game I wanted to watch. I told him the USA vs Russia soccer match and he said we don’t show soccer here. I said you don’t get ESPN2? And he said yes, but we don’t show soccer here. I was the only customer in the bar and he straight up refused to turn on the game. What kind of a-hole does that… Speechless, obviously I had to go elsewhere because this bigot doesn’t support athletes who represent the UNITEDSTATESOFAMERICA.

I went to Higgins’ Tavern on Saturday evening when I got tired of the annual«Douches in Costumes» bar crawl up Southport. This place is the classic neighborhood dive, where the locals go to drink when they don’t feel like getting roofied over at Schoolyard or Justin’s or challenged to a Bro’Down at Mystic Celt. At Higgins’ Tavern, there are fewer bros, less trixies, and there is hot popcorn and a bartender who can actually hear your order the first time. If you’re looking for DJ Fresh-n-Fresh or whatever, you will not find it here. Higgins’ is a low-frills, classic drinkin’ joint. And that’s A-OK with me. Apparently, the place is a Michigan State bar, but that didn’t affect my visit. We got our pitcher of beer and enjoyed ourselves.

Laid-back, friendly people with a jukebox and popcorn… that’s the perfect combo in my book. It’s the perfect little corner bar for grabbing a pitcher or 4 and just hanging out with friends.

Ok who knew people came to HigginS? I went in on Saturday night and the place was jam packed. Like, really?!? HigginS is the essential neighborhood bar. Nothing fancy, average prices. It is a Michigan State bar. I feel like if Cheers was in Lakeview, this would be it. Everyone knows your name here! Huge pro — They have free popcorn that is salty and incredible. I ate one or two kernels and before I knew it I I was shoveling popcorn into my mouth from the machine. I seriously had to have a friend pull me away because I was gaining weight by the second. Huge con — The S in HigginS is capitalized. Seems trivial, but it bothers me everytime I walk by it. I apparently was talking to the owners son on Saturday and he told me he never realized the S was capitalized?! That made me even more angry!
