Nate Johnson is incredible! The passion he has for the art is reflected on his work. What a pleasure working with these guys at Johnson Studios. Nate made these beautiful illuminated ice pedestals containing submerged snowflakes. These pedestals were used in a «Frozen» theme photo shoot. Thanks to his work the shoot was a hit and was posted in Glamour and Grace.(Check my uploaded pics)
You definitely get the full on experience of working directly with an artist, not something you can get from other companies. You can even book him for a live performance so your guests can also share the thrill of seeing an artist in action. They are willing to work with you on custom orders to make sure your event is a hit!

After looking at most of the Ice Sculpture Artists in the area, I’m absolutely thrilled we decided to go with Johnson Studios Ice Sculptures. The total experience was awesome, and we definitely will be repeat customers. From the moment I called, they were extremely helpful and professional. Nate the owner answers his own phone (a really nice touch compared to the receptionists at the other big names) and is more than willing to give suggestions, send pictures, and share his expertise.
My roommates and I were looking for some «flair» for our New Year’s Eve party, and decided that a couple Ice Luges would do the trick. Nate had plenty of options, ranging from as basic as you want, to elaborate as you can think. We settled on two of the more «basic» options (I say «basic», but they are really gorgeous as you can see in the pictures). Needless to say, the luges were a huge hit, and lasted through the night and were still up and running for some more festivities the next evening.
All in all, Johnson Studios Ice Sculptures blew away our expectations. We came into the process as complete novices, and came away looking for excuses to use ice sculptures in all of our work and social events moving forward. If you have any reason to need an ice sculpture, these are the guys in Chicago to call.
p. s. Nate gave us a tour of his studio/​workshop when we picked up our sculptures. His icemaking process is unbelievable, and some of the carvings he showed us in the freezers were beyond belief (a full sized statue of himself carved in ice… insane). This was a really nice touch, and helped to hammer home that this is no run of the mill corporation that puts profits over the happiness of it’s customers.

Johnson Studios really took care of us. We needed an ice luge for a college football tailgate and Nate made sure we had a large, beautiful sculpture. Really looking forward to using them again!

The guys at Johnson Studios have it all, they’re kind, creative, professional, and cool (pun intended.) We had no idea what we wanted for our 2^nd annual gala, we just knew we wanted it to be stellar. They helped us brainstorm some great ideas that we otherwise would not have thought possible.
Their range is incredible, they proposed skylines, logos, even an ice vase! There is no limit to their vision, and, at the end of the day, they bring that something special to your event… magic.
Speaking of «end of the day,» the set up and take down were so seamless, leaving us to wonder if wee ice-​cave dwelling elves were behind the whole operation.

Absolutely last second. We needed an ice luge for a big party. These guys came through for a great price. Got to meet the guys and they are great guys. A must if you need any ice carving/​luge in the Chicago area.

I am so thrilled that I hired Johnson Studios for my son’s 2^nd birthday party. He’s an October baby so we have been doing Halloween-​themed birthday parties for him each year. This year we decided to get something special for the kids, especially since my daughter is older and there would be a lot of preschoolers, so we contacted Johnson Studios. Nate and Kristopher were helpful, professional and all around awesome.
And the sculpture… phenomenal! The kids absolutely loved it! They built an ice tombstone with Atom’s name and a huge bat flying out of it. It was lit by LED lights which made it look awesome. Way better than I would have imagined. It was definitely the centerpiece of the party and there were always kids standing in front of it all night. Set-​up and clean-​up were a breeze too. There was a bucket set up for the melting ice. There was still a lot of ice left but I emptied the bucket just before I went to bed and it filled all night and I just dumped the rest the next morning.
All in all, a great experience. My only problem is that now my kids want ice sculptures for every party!

These guys are the best! They were able to accommodate a last minute request for our wedding, and we thank them for that. The sculpture was amazing! The design and clarity of the sculpture was something that everyone was talking about! Johnson Studios set us up with a great piece of art and really made our wedding reception awesome! We are looking forward to hiring them again for our next party!

I recently had the pleasure of doing business with Nate at Johnson Studios. I must preface by saying I am not one to write reviews. However, I was blown away by Nate’s professionalism and creativity. A review was needed, no doubt about it.
My wife was having our baby shower and I knew I wanted to do something something special for her but couldn’t figure out what. After doing a little research, I came across Nate’s webpage and decided I would give him a call. I didn’t really know exactly what I wanted when I called him but Nate was quick to help. After a short conversation, I gave some hints as to what my wife likes and what is important to her. I touched on the fact of how important my wife’s late grandfather was to her & gave some brief details. He asked if he can have some time to brainstorm and got back to me later that night.
He came up with the idea to create the logo of her grandfather’s former employer, Morton Salt. Morton Salt has always reminded my wife and her family of her grandpa & how hard he worked to provide for his family. I knew she would love it.
Nate provided a very fair estimate & kept in touch with me throughout the entire process. On her shower day, he came to the country club and personally made sure the sculpure was delivered and set up in perfect condition.
When my wife got to the shower, the first thing she noticed was the sculpture. She was in tears. Nate has sculpted the Morton Salt logo — a little girl holding an umbrella in the rain. It was perfect, we were having a girl.
Needless to say, Nate’s business card has been given to several of my buddies and family.
