Ordered on grub hub. Originally said it would arrive at 12:15am(placed order at like 11pm). Extended ETA saying it would be here by 12:40. By 1:20am it still hadn’t arrived so we called grub hub(because the restaurant was not answering their phone) and grub hub gave us some credit. Finally our order came… Suuuper late. So unprofessional. Food wasn’t even that great. I also read some other reviews that had similar experiences so seems like this is a pattern. 2 words: bad business. PS I neverrrr leave negative reviews, so obviously this called for a special occasion.

This place is awful. My girlfriend ordered a meal off grub hub and our order never came so we had to call them the next day and they told us to call grub hub grub hub cause their delivery driver failed to bring our food to our house. Grub hub took care of it thank god but we were only offered credit for another order not a refund. When we called for our second order the owner assured us we would be the first order to come out and it took two hours for them to deliver our food. The sushi was not worth it. My shrimp tasted like cigarettes and the maki platter was garbage.

The sushi is fine, but there is NEVER anyone in here. And don’t you want your sushi restaurant to be crowded so the fish is always fresh? It was A-OK, but we wouldn’t go back. 310⁄365

Was a bit hesitant to try based on the reviews, but everything was fine. We were the only people there on a Monday night. Walked in and felt like I was entering an empty night club, kinda funny. Started with the happy hour special potstickers($ 6 — didn’t really seem like a good deal for 4 potstickers) which were good. We loved the Cowboy and Volcano rolls. Tropical Mango was pretty good. The only one we didn’t like was the Mexican roll, which just tasted fishy(in a bad way) to us. Service was good. 363⁄365

We tried this with a Groupon. The shrimp shumai and edamame starters were great. Lovely presentation all around! Great service if not a little less attentive, which I actually like. We ordered three special makis – Sunset California, Red Dragon, and Rainbow. They were all pretty good, not great. The main problem was that some of the pieces didnt have any fish in them, which was unfortunate. There was lots of cucumber and avocado though. The dessert was fabulous. It was the Japanese style ice cream wrapped with dough? I can’t remember the name, but we got chocolate and red bean. Fabulous! We will definitely try it again.

We ordered from GrubHub and paid a pretty penny for a lot of sushi. Quoted wait time was ridiculous at 1 hour and 15 minutes. They were 30 minutes late so we ended up waiting 1 hour 45 minutes for the food. I was obviously concerned about how long our food had been sitting in this guy’s car, so I asked him. He told me 40+ MINUTES. I reported it to GrubHub and the restaurant claimed the guy didn’t understand my question(??). All the facts are there… please don’t order from these guys. I question their quality and they’re pretty crappy to their customers.

I tried this place for lunch deliveries before, and the food(Bento Box) just didn’t look appealing. But, since my friend had a Groupon, I went to try their food myself. I must say food was not very impressive, especially their Japanese Fajita. First of all, our waitress didn’t know that existed on their menu, then the dish was missing all sides like tortilla, avocado, plantains(basically it was stir fried meat with rice). We repeatedly asked what happened to those sides, and she said she’d find out… which she NEVER did or NEVER apologized. They charged full amount as well. As a Japanese, I must say«DONOTMAKE A ‘TWIST’ MENUIFYOUDONOTKNOWWHATYOUDOING.» There are many Japanese restaurant in Chicago. Try others. 1 star is for venue.

The Good: The Maki volcano, baja california and emerald rolls were really good(though the emerald was very small). Top 10 edamame in the city! Nice looking décor. The Bad: Super slow service! Sorry, the server was really nice, but everything took FOREVER to show up. This was at 7:30 on a Sunday night when we were the only ones in the entire restaurant. Two other couples arrived around 9pm. Seriously, we were there for 2hrs and 15min and only ate 3 rolls and 2 appetizers. There were a few 20 minute gaps after finishing a roll(that took 20 minutes to prepare) where we were wondering where everyone was. DONOTBUY A GROUPON!!! I went in with a groupon for $ 20 off and they made sure to make up for it. They charged $ 2-$ 2.50 for each refill. The check came out to $ 70(after another 20 minute wait) and I was still starving. Even though the rolls were good and the edamame was salted to perfection… I would never go back. Seriously, there are so many good sushi spots in the city. Don’t waste your time with this one. No surprise that we were the only table there at 7:30 on a Sunday night. I had to eat again as soon as I got home.

I ordered through GrubHub, but because of the character limit for reviews, I am posting here. I had a terrible experience with this restaurant which resulted in me getting two items that were different than what I ordered, and waiting for almost two and a half hours for my food. I ordered: Vegetable Tempura, Dragon Maki, and Green Tea Tempura Ice Cream. The first problem I had was partially my fault. After I placed the order the restaurant called me within minutes to tell me that they had run out of the Green Tea dessert, however, I missed the call and did not get the VM they left. Since I was busy I didn’t notice until almost one hour and forty-five minutes elapsed(the estimated delivery time was over an hour anyway) that my food had not arrived. I went to check my messages and heard the VM they left and called immediately. I was annoyed that they never tried to contact me again after the initial call or think of some other solution, such as sending a similar dessert or subtracting the charge from my order and sending out the food they did have, but I let that slide since I should have paid attention to my phone. When I called I was told they held my food for over an hour waiting for my call but they had already sent the order out with a similar substitute item. I was fine with that, except, I strongly believe that my food was still there when I called since it took forty-five additional minutes after my call for my food to arrive. The restaurant is five miles from my house, and I ordered ice cream which was barely melted,(Nice job on that) so I’m guessing the restaurant told me my order was already on its way so they wouldn’t have to subtract the charge for the dessert that I had already paid for. Once my food arrived I noticed that I was missing my Vegetable Tempura and I immediately called the restaurant. Whoever I spoke to insisted that the tempura was in my bag and when I insisted it wasn’t, she explained that the veggie tempura is not actually a fried vegetable appetizer but some sort of sushi roll. I explained I ordered the item under the traditional Japanese starters portion of the menu and that every other restaurant where I have ordered Vegetable Tempura off of the menu, I have received tempura battered vegetables, not some sort of sushi roll. Add to that, that there was no tempura battered vegetable pieces in the roll they sent, and I was upset. I will not be ordering from this restaurant ever again.

I use to work here. They were located in Lincoln and Ashland. The food is good but the owners are not only rude but pretty selfish to their employees. I had to deal with customers. Especially if they had a problem with their order. The owner is never found because he is too busy having luch with his«lovely» girlfriend or doing something else instead of being there at his business helping out the customers. Only the waitresses had to deal with them and it can be very difficult at times. Not only that, the owner is very sketchy when it comes to money. Some waitresses got paid more than others or never gotten paid to work double(which was me) and when u say something he will laugh and still won’t give the right amount. The owners don’t know how to treat their employess with respect and fullfill the customers needs. Don’t even bother booking parties with them because they will rip u off. I still can’t believe after all the shady things the owner did, this restaurant is still in business. How sad.

I ordered from here over the weekend. The food didn’t have any great taste to it. Seemed really generic. I might try it again because it is so close to my apartment and they deliver. I’m willing to try anything twice so hopefully the second time is a charm.

I’m a sushi freak, and when I found out I had a sushi joint that delivered to my neighborhood I was ecstatic. While I will not say the food was bad, it really wasn’t, it was just very very bland. I ordered a number of different rolls to see what this place was made of and out of the 4, only 1 was decent. My cheesecake dessert was the best part of the meal, I’m sad to say.

I don’t know what it is about this place but it’s hit or miss. I’ve had a few good rolls and a few that made me wonder why I wasted my money. So I guess I will say that if you are craving sushi but are too lazy to leave your apartment and have some extra cash, it will do the trick. However, if you’re on a budget don’t waste your money. You’ll be sad.

Sooooo disappointing. I ordered some rolls and pieces from here in January and it was tasty and the delivery was quick with gorgeous presentation. This time… not so much… Well… the presentation was still fabulous. However, the fish arrived a ½ hour after the promised delivery time(which meant an hour and a half wait, and I’m about 1 mile away). The quality of the fish was awful. My yellowtail was fishy tasting, and the two pieces of salmon were completely different colors. Ok… I’ll give them the white tuna… I’ve had better, but it was decent. The maki was boring and bland… even the rice was terrible. I also want to know who decided that bananas belong in an appetizer called vegetable tempura. In sum, there is waaaaaaaaaay too much good sushi in Chicago to waste your time with this place.

My normal sushi delivery place was closed for Independence Day, and so my lady and I ordered from Koko instead. My assessment– very underwhelming. The prices at Koko are comparable to other sushi places, but the quality of the food is not. I got a Bento box which came with miso, sushi, veggie tempura, shrimp tempura and rice. The miso, for some reason, had corn and peas in it. It tasted alright, but the choice of corn and peas seemed strange. The sushi was probably the weakest part of the whole box. The maki rolls were flavorless and bland rather than crisp and clean, and they fell apart to the touch which made eating them tricky. The tempura was the best part of the meal. Both the shrimp and vegetables were delicious and crispy. The rice was– well rice. Anyway, this place loses almost all points for being a sushi place with lousy sushi, though if you have to get something from here get the tempura.

**this review is for delivery only!** we ordered in sushi and thought we’d try out Koko after reading some decent reviews. the delivery got here in 40 minutes as promised. I picked out the New York and Amber. Really, nothing special. I wasn’t blown away. I wasn’t completely disappointed. I just thought that it was a little expensive for what it was. I’d pay dolla dolla billz for bomb sushi and this was far from that. ok so it may not be fair to judge because it’s DELIVERY, but i’ve had some amazing delivered sushi in my day…(NIUSUSHI!) I’ll hit up the restaurant itself one of these days and give it a full review. And that’s. that.

I posted this same review on grubhub, and I feel so strongly that I chose to share here, as well. Looking for a wallet-friendly sushi delivery option, we were ultimately disappointed in Koko. We ended up spending around the same amount of money as for Papajin’s delivery, only to receive food of a lower quality. A few points of interest: 1. The vaguely named«house soup» seemed a harmless(if red) miso. Mussels and miniature octopus were unnecessary and unwelcome guests in a classic staple. 2. Presentation left something to be desired, even for delivery. The Rainbow maki looked thrown together, at best. 3. All maki tasted noticeably fishy. I know sushi is fishy, but this was a bit overboard. 4. The avocado maki was delicious: ripe, voluptuous, well rolled. Unfortunately, my favorite item we ordered. 5. As far as delivery goes, the service was prompt and the order was complete. My view: there’s no real reason to order from Koko’s again. Not bad, but not good, and there’s often a slippery slope from mediocrity into the latter, when it comes to sushi. Stick with Papajin.

Koko Sushi Bar is one of the best Sushi restaurants i have ever been to. My friend discovered Kokos through Grub hub and they delivered to him all the way in Albany Park. Going to the restaurant is a much better experience. The décor is really nice, and the staff is very friendly. I have been here to eat a couple different times, and my favorite item has been Fire Maki. It is cream cheese, avacado, and a spicy mayo wrapped in a warm white fish. It is one of the most delicious things i have ever eaten. Double Yum!!!
