Wow! For as much money that I sank into my ’88 Volvo at this shop, I should’ve just leased a brand new Lexus. DO NOT BRING YOUR VOLVO HERE! They claim to be experts, but I doubt they know what they’re doing. I asked them to set my idle a little lower, but instead they didn’t set the throttle body plate properly, and also rerouted vital air hoses and plugged them with bolts and an alignment plug. Never seen such a thing. It caused SO MANY ISSUES. Examples: caused air hoses to lead to mass air flow sensor to be filled with OIL. They also claimed that my thermostat was fine, but actually was faulty, causing my car to overheat and die often because I also had a bad alternator that was draining my battery (which they also claimed were fine). I sank well over $ 2800 in repairs within a year at this shop, and I’m sure most of it wasn’t needed. They cannot diagnose a vehicle properly. I also requested an oil change four times, and they still couldn’t do that. Thanks for totaling my car!

If there would be a 10 star rating I would give it to this business. I found Marvin’s in Unilocal 4 years ago and based on the helpful and positive reviews I decided to try them and took my minivan. I can’t be more than pleased, satisfied and happy to have gone there. Marvin is an extraordinary person. I would recommend this shop. Marvin even fixed extra things and still charged me the original price. So sad that I’m moving to another state. Wish I could take his honest and reliable business to Texas. You won’t regret taking your car to him. I drive almost 1 hour to get to this shop and is worth every mile, minute and money.

Marvin is the best. He always gets me a great deal, he makes sure I know and understand exactly what is wrong and what it takes to fix it. They are honest, transparent, and very loyal… he recognizes me immediately when I walk in. I would recommend Marvin to anyone in Chicagoland, these guys are great.

I rarely write a Unilocal review after just one visit, but I had such a positive experience yesterday that I had to. Although I live on the south side, I found Marvin’s after learning that Vince from Motor Care, my go-​to when I lived up north, was there now. I wasn’t happy with my local mechanic, so I decided to give Marvin’s a shot.
Front desk service is friendly and I got an appointment within a couple hours. The office/​waiting area is clean and has free, secure wi-​fi. After about 40 min, Marvin came in and showed me my car up on the lift so I could see underneath. It was obvious that all 4 breaks needed replacement, while my other mechanic hadn’t even mentioned the front. The quote he gave me to replace all 4 brakes was far less than the other mechanic had quoted for just rear brakes. I knew from past research and experience that this was a super fair price.
In addition, I was offered a loaner car for free (an older but clean Camry). When I came back, not only was my car done when he said it would, but they had topped off all fluids and tire pressure, AND also replaced one of my headlights (which I had forgotten burned out recently) for free. So I paid exactly what Marvin had estimated for the brakes and no more, and got amazing service.
No pressure to fix other things that I hadn’t come in for. I have no idea what happened to the reviewer who called this place «deceptive» and «smooth talking,» but at no point did I feel like I was being smooth-​talked. Another woman came in at one point to have a funny noise checked out and I heard them tell her that they found nothing wrong and it was likely the cold weather – they could have easily made something up to «fix». Seriously, I live like 40 minutes from this place, but I’ll come again.

These guys are the best. Very honest, professional and courteous. Their work is good and it holds up over time. I am lucky enough to have a brother who went through automotive school so I always consult with him on repairs, and everything they told me has been right on and the repairs competitively priced.

Marvin’s does great work at reasonable prices, but what I like most is you can trust them. It’s a huge relief having skilled mechanics on your side instead of trying to sell services you don’t need. The guy who runs it used to own MotorCare on Western and Grace. He’s helped me several times with creative alternatives to what could have been really expensive problems. I refuse to take our cars anywhere else.

Historically I have always gone to the Belmont location but for some reason only Irving Park is showing up for me on Unilocal.Anyway, I moved to Chicago about three years ago and was worried about finding a good mechanic. A coworker recommended Marvin and I have no regrets. He has always been responsive, completed work quickly, and prices seem to be great. I have referred 2 friends here since and both have had great experiences. Marvins employees will drive you where you need to go after dropping off your car and he always shows you what work was completed. A number of times when I went to pick up my car I found it up on the lift. The first time my initial reaction was to be upset as I thought work wasn’t done, but I soon learned he did this to show me the work his guys did. I now live just a few blocks from the Iriving Park location and hope the service is as great here as the original.
