Near North Animal Hospital, Ltd

We recently moved from the Upper East Side Manhattan to Chicago. We have 2 amazing dogs, Bones 16 years old and Oliver 10. Bones had been struggling with her health quite a bite over the past year. We loved our Vet in NYC and were concerned about finding a new Veternarian. Thankfully my wife found Near North Animal Hospital. We have dealt with both Dr. Boin and Dr. Henderson. Both were so kind, caring and provided excellent care to our dogs. I would also like to mention Amy who is always polite and energetic when we call. Recently Bones took a turn for the worse and we had to make a very difficult decision. Justin the veterinary tech helped my wife get Bones to the office since I was out of town, and my wife was unable to get Bones there on her own. Dr. Henderson explained all of our options, answered all of our questions and treated Bones with kindness and compassion as we put her to rest. Bones is now at the Rainbow Bridge with all the animals that have been loved so much. We can’t thank everyone at the office enough for helping us during a difficult time. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

The entire staff at Near North Animal Hospital was beyond helpful. I called them about our newly rescued pup to tell them I saw worms after he went to the bathroom. The vet we had taken him to 2 days before wouldn’t return my calls. The vet tech at near north talked me through all possibilities and told me that I could bring in a sample to have him checked out later that day. We were also able to bring him in the next day for his boosters and schedule and appointment for his vaccines. Dr. Henderson was beyond gentle and kind to our little rescue pup, Marv. She made him feel comfortable and helped us understand all of his medical needs and what we should/shouldn’t give him. As first time pet owners, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience!!!

Dr. Henderson is really truly an amazing vet! My kitten had his first cold/​URI and she was super helpful in helping him get better. I send all of my friends with pets to Near North Animal Hospital and I would never take my kitties anywhere else.

Only after we moved away and had to stop going to Near North Animal Hospital did I realize how fantastic they were. The office is small, but they still manage to be incredibly accommodating and flexible with scheduling. Never once at this vet did I feel pressured into an unnecessary shot or procedure, and my options were always clearly explained. Our dog, Poncho, never once had trouble with any of his shots, he never even seemed to feel them – a luxury when you have a very wiggly 60lb dog!

Dr Henderson is the doctor we were searching for. Never in a rush and always making sure our dog feels comfortable. Looking forward to a long relationship.

Unbelievable. I was struggling to get a fix for my dog and this vet was great. He really looked into her records, took tests, told me what had not worked,(based upon her current state), and finally gave me a few items to put together to make her comfortable.

Charged us for an x-​ray on our cat that didn’t even give a hint of what was wrong because they couldn’t get him to stay still. Said they’d call us back to check on our cat, but never did. It was obvious that they were taking advantage of our fear for our cat’s health and pressured us into receiving the x-​ray.

I moved away but still saw Dr Boin. Last year I tried another clinic much closer to me. They were good, but they just weren’t Dr. Boin. And so I’m going back.

Love this Vet office! My dog had severe diarrhea. I called and the reception told me «have I tried rice, or ID can food?». It was refreshing to hear a reception who tried to help solve the problem before bringing my dog in. Dr. Boin explained and discussed thoroughly the issue at hand and the reason to conduct the test. He responded to my email within 24 hours. The price is reasonable. Thank you Near North Animal Hospital. What an exceptional team.

Excellent service and personable staff that most importantly don’t seem to be in the business of gouging their customers. Plus it’s within walking distance to our house!

Dr. Henderson is absolutely wonderful!!! We brought our dog in for his annual shots and he had a terrible allergic reaction. Dr. Henderson was so wonderful throughout the process and you could tell she had a genuine concern for his health. She even gave me her cell number and came in on her day off to take a look at him. I cannot say enough good things about her!

I moved recently to Chicago from New York and brought my two cats along. The one cat has had chronic digestive issues for the past year and nothing I did in New York was effective in treating her. I’ve taken her twice to see Dr. Boin and the team and I am so impressed by how caring and helpful they are. Furthermore, Dr. Boin has been extremely thorough in investigating what my cat is struggling with. He checks in with me regularly to find out how she is doing and he has clearly spent time exploring the literature to come up with treatment options. I highly recommend Near North Animal Hospital and Dr. Boin.

My husband and I still bring our cats to Near North, even though we now live in Bucktown. Dr. Henderson has been a great addition to the staff. I find the doctors to be very knowledgeable and caring.
They were essential in diagnosing my 1 cat with IBD, and helping her through any of her flare ups. When she has flare ups she won’t eat, and it’s very dangerous for a cat to go 24 hours w/​out eating. I know that if she’s having a flare up and won’t eat, if I take her to Near North they will give her fluids to replenish what she’s missing, and they will give her meds to stimulate her appetite. Things have always turned out fine, which is amazing, because 2 years ago, before she was diagnosed with IBD, I thought my Sasha was a goner :(
Here’s a tip — street parking can be a real pain, especially if you try to park close to the office because you have heavy cats to carry. So allow for some extra time. There’s a new supermarket next door, and they have a parking garage, but I have no idea what the rates are.

After recently moving to Chicago from Alabama, I wanted to get my dog registered so I could take her to off-​leash dog parks in the city. I struggled with what vet to take her to, and eventually decided on Near North due to their positive reviews.
The veterinarian was wonderful! My dog is nervous around strangers and new places, and the vet was so amazingly soothing. I have never seen Binny get comfortable with a person so quickly. As a nursing student, I know how to administer shots properly, and the vet did a beautiful job. I think my dog barely felt it, which is great.
The price of the vaccinations is the only negative. I don’t know if it is an area difference, but it was HUNDREDS of dollars more expensive than the shots cost in Alabama. I used to get my dog her rabies shot and her heartworm testing at my vet in Alabama, and it cost $ 45. The rest of her vaccinations I got from the local TSC for $ 7. Yes, seven dollars is how much the vet is (probably) paying for the vaccinations they just charged you $ 400 for.
Aside from that, I thought this was an excellent veterinary clinic, and will be taking my dog there again.

I’m very satisfied with their service here. Very comfortable bringing my cats in.
Always seem very welcoming and a love for animals.
Doctor Henderson is very kind and gentle with my pets.
The Prices I’d say are pretty fair.
I’ll definitely continue to bring my pets here.

I have always been very happy with the service my animals receive at Near North Animal Hospital in the past 3 years.

I made an appointment for my kitten at Near North just based on the close proximity to my apartment — lucky for me, it is an awesome vet hospital!
The basic check-​up was reasonably priced and was very informative for me. All of the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, and I felt like my kitten was in good hands. Would definitely recommend!

I took my dog there to get two vaccines and it was $ 400. The vet kept having to restick the vaccine in because it was in the wrong place. Later that day he started acting weird and sick. Three days later he was STILL sick and the vet said it was from the vaccines (even though he had gotten the same vaccines before and been fine). They told me to come in and get painkillers for him, which I had to pay for, even after paying them $ 400 for two shots that were the reason he was sick in the first place.
** I had him see a different vet who said he was having an allergic reaction the the vaccines and that everything they recommended would not help. She prescribed a different medicine and after 1 week of no improvement, he drastically improved in less than 24 hours.

By far the best veterinarian in Chicago. If you are new to Chicago and your looking for a place to take your loved one (s), then you need to check out this place. Even if its a little bit of a drive, I would suggest it.
For us, its all about the staff. Here you will find the best. They work through any issues, and have the best follow-​up after appointments. And its also the little things — They remember our pets names and their past visits.
The facility is clean. Reasonable prices. On-​time with appointments (which is huge!). You can board your pets at this location. Lots of great services!

My husband is usually the one who takes Summer to the vet and after my adventure with her there yesterday I now know why. The moment we walked in Summer completely freaked out… she started running all over the waiting room and when I sat down to try to calm her down she jumped right into my lap and clung to me for dear life. And let’s just say at 29.3 lbs (according to the vet!) she’s a bit big to be a lap dog.
Our mission at the vet was simple… to draw some blood to test her for heart warms. I tried to explain to her it wasn’t a big deal and we were on an adventure just like Marley and Jennifer Aniston! Someone at the vet politely pointed out that maybe that’s not the best comparison since Marley actually does die… oops.
I never thought we’d be able to get Summer up on the vet’s table to get her blood drawn, but fortunately the 2 staff members (one of them being Dr Henderson) that greeted me have been thru this before. They got Summer up on the table in no time, took a bit of blood while i stroked her face, and we were outta there within a few minutes. And Summer was so brave… I have to admit I got a little queasy when I saw the needle, but she took it better than even Marley could have!
