We had to redo 90% of our master bathroom because there had been so much damage from leakage in our shower. The only things staying the same were the sink and toilet. The original developer installed the shower floor very badly — cheap materials, no pitch on the threshold, and a bad seal around our shower drain. We had to replace much of the flooring underneath the shower and some of the ceiling in the room below. The tile was so damaged from constant leakage that we opted to retile the entire shower and bathroom floor. We found NorPro online and they came to the rescue.
With Mihai as our GC we had, quite simply, a perfect experience with NorPro: zero negatives and many positives.
Mihai couldn’t have been easier to work with. He communicates extremely clearly, which matters a lot, especially when, as in our case, there are some complicated details involved. But communicating clearly is one thing; being responsive is another, and Mihai did both. He was quick to answer email as well as text messages whenever we had questions or concerns. We had a quote within 24 hours of our first meeting with Mihai, and when we needed to make some changes, he followed up with a revised quote, again within 24 hours. Also, after construction began, when some major noise issues arose because of our bathroom location very close to our neighbors’ bedroom, Mihai was very responsive to our request to give us advance notice for the noisier parts of the project so that we could in turn give our neighbors a heads up the day before (Mihai’s subcontractors were also very respectful about starting any such jobs during regular business hours).
We were beyond impressed with everyone Mihai hired: a tile installer, a plumber, a carpenter, a glass door specialist, and a painter, along with their assistants. The subcontractors were uniformly polite and friendly, happy to answer questions if they came up and quick to consult where decisions were required. We also felt completely comfortable with any of them in our house while we were there and while we were away. In fact, we ended up needing to have about half the work done while we were abroad for a week, and we were proven right in our complete trust of Mihai and all of his crew.
I do want to give an extra shout-​out to Mihai’s tile installer, Marian. We are so happy with the results of his work! We opted for porcelain tiles to replace the slate originally installed by the developer, partly for looks but mostly because it promises to be less prone to leakage and less susceptible to erosion. Marian did a truly beautiful job with the materials and the challenging designs we asked him to work with.
Finally, NorPro was 100% on time at every stage of the project, which is rare, as I’m sure most readers of this website know. There were also no surprise charges at the end of the project. We paid exactly what we were quoted.
With these two achievements, combined with their brilliant repair and installation work overall, NorPro hit the trifecta for us. We will certainly hire them again the next time we have a project in their bailiwick.

Mihai coordinated a bathroom project for us – taking out an old tub and replacing/​installing a new one, as well as redoing the tile/​paint surrounding it. Because of circumstances outside of his control (the first tub installed had manufacturer defects, and then the 2^nd tub also had issues), the project took much longer and required several extra visits from Mihai and his crew. He always took the time to fit us into his busy schedule once we were able to take the next steps through the process. The final outcome looks great, and Mihai managed expectations within each phase, pointing out potential hurdles and costs before they were incurred. He did a great job.

There was a problem with cracked floor tiles and shifting toilet bowl in my bathroom — weren’t sure what was causing the problem. Mihai Ghiurcuta from Norpro Services explained the potential issues and set a date to start the project which they kept. Once Norpro dug up the floor they were able to diagnose the problem and correct it, keeping me posted with clear explanations and pictures. The results are terrific and the price was fair. I’m very grateful I found Norpro and I can heartily recommend Mihai and his team to others in need of a contractor.

Exceptional contracting experience! Mihai Ghiurcuta is an owner that communicates early and often and does exactly what he agreed to do on time. His tile installer Marion has attention to detail and a spirit of excellence like none other. Marion does not rush his perfection and aims to have esthetic symmetry. Mihai offers competitive price but most importantly delivers exceptional value and someone that I would not only recommend but will use again. His team is very respectful of the homeowner’s property and I felt quite comfortable leaving the house to run a quick errand while Marion was working. If you are tired of disappointing results and a contractor who does not honor his word then come over to Norpro to experience the difference of old-​world craftsmanship!

Living on the Gold Coast has been a challenge for getting quality work performed at reasonable prices. We are more often than not disappointed in the workmanship of people we hire.
But NORPRO is the exception: they are fabulous. We had the privilege of scheduling our plumbing work directly with Mihai. Best group we have ever worked with. Have lived in our home for 18 years and have gone through many trades folks. First time someone has given an estimate that was fair, and then stayed with it. And the work they performed was fabulous, especially Daniel & Florin. I would suggest this group for their professionalism and attitude.

My husband and I moved to Chicago a few months ago from out of state. Very shortly after moving into our townhouse, we learned that the place needed a fair amount of work. When it was time to tackle the master bathroom, I made calls to a few different contractors to obtain estimates for a complete renovation. My plan was to obtain 3 estimates and then select a contractor to do the work. However, each contractor would either not show up at all at our scheduled date/​time or would come by and after spending a fair amount of time with me discussing the project, would not actually follow-​up by sending an estimate. It was the strangest thing, not to mention incredibly frustrating… 6 contractors and not one estimate… My husband and I were at Home Carpet One purchasing flooring for our family room and I casually asked one of the employees if they could refer me to someone who can help with my bathroom project. They referred me to Mihai at Norpro.
I called Mihai and he came over the next day to measure and discuss the scope of the project. I immediately felt comfortable with him — he was punctual, polite and professional. I am experienced with house renovations as I renovated my kitchen and bathrooms in my previous home and I knew immediately that Mihai was competent. He has positive ratings on both Unilocal as well as Angie’s List and when I received his detailed estimate just two days later, I proceeded to hire him for our project.
The work was to begin in 5 weeks but first I would have to choose and purchase all of the materials. I wanted to be sure to order the right amount of tile, the right sized sinks, cabinets, vent fan, etc. and found myself calling or texting Mihai almost daily for guidance. He was responsive each time, either answering the phone immediately or getting back to me within the same day, even on a Sunday. This was a huge help because I did not want the project to be delayed due to my ordering the wrong materials.
When the demolition was underway, we found a few «surprises» (in my experience, there are ALWAYS hidden surprises with these types of large jobs, you just pray the surprises can be addressed easily and at a low cost…) And while it is never fun to learn about a «surprise,» (we had 2 of them — one had to do with plumbing and heating ducts underneath the floor where we wanted to expand our shower and the other had to do with not enough floor joists to support the floor itself), I not only appreciated that Mihai brought them to my attention (some contractors would have just proceeded with the work without fixing the problems), but that he presented solutions to address them.
Mihai’s team worked together cohesively. Each team member was polite, professional, interactive and respectful of our house.
Every morning when they arrived, they laid down dropcloths to protect the floors and at the end of each day, they cleaned up after themselves leaving the house in good condition. I had the benefit of being home with the crew every day, and I was able to see first-​hand their attention to detail and the quality of their work. Mihai was a great project manager and was either at our house every day or was in constant communication with me and with his crew. Everyone was on the same page and it clearly showed.
The bathroom came out exactly the way I had hoped — it is absolutely beautiful! I was so happy with the outcome of this project that I also hired Mihai’s partner, Mitch, to install new hardwood flooring in our master bedroom.
Any time a major renovation takes place, it is disruptive and inconvenient, however, I believe that if the end result outweighs the inconvenience, it was worth it. This bathroom project (and bedroom flooring project) was definitely worth it! I am now happy that none of those other contractors sent estimates because we were meant to work with Norpro. And while I can honestly say I am very excited for the contractors to leave so that life can get back to normal, Mihai and his team have become like family and it has been a pleasure working with them.
I do not have one negative thing to say about this company and would not hesitate to work with them again next spring when we tackle the kitchen…

Mihai and his team were great to work with. We got several quotes for a complete guest bath gut job. We went with Norpro because we felt the most comfortable with them (Mihai asked us about several things we had never even thought of, took meticulous measurements just for a quote, and didn’t try to up sell or push us on anything, but gave us great options). They worked very hard and did a beautiful job. They asked us along the way about any questions that came up to make sure we would love the final product. Our guest bath turned out great, and we hired them back to come do the master and the kitchen back splash. The team was just as professional the second time around. The tile guys blew me away by how hard they worked and the quality of their work– it looks amazing. Adrian especially was very nice and professional, and did both jobs very quickly. (his brother was great too, but I forget his name– he only worked on the first bathroom job). The final costs for both jobs were exactly what they had quoted– no surprises in the end. They were also very accommodating and understanding about my horrible schedule as a nurse working night shift. I would definitely recommend them to anyone doing a bathroom or other tile job.

This is the 2^nd time I worked with Mihai. I highly recommend anyone who want to do some renovation to talk to Mihai first, let him have a chance to serve you. Both experience are great.
I asked him to installed tiles in the laundry room, and a range hood.
Because last time, the experience was so great, I just gave Mihai the lockbox and he managed to finish the job without me supervising in the condo. The job was done professionally, and quickly. I had a big renovation in my condo, and interviewed several grade A contractors from Angie’s list.
A good contractor will finish what he has quoted you and explains the work in detail, and an excellent contractor will go beyond that. During the tile installation, Mihai told me that there was water leakage sign on the drywall, and he found that the leakage was due to the hot water valve and suggested me to hire another plumber to take a look. I was very happy to work with Mihai again.
I would definitely suggest him to my friends.

If you need work done on your house or condo, look no further than Norpro. I recently hired Norpro for a fairly big job — completely remodeling three circa 1980s bathrooms, painting practically my entire townhouse, and tearing out some closets in the basement and adding electrical down there. Norpro went above and beyond my expectations.
As a fairly new homeowner who has never tackled any sort of remodeling, I didn’t know what to expect. However, Norm and his crew made everything very easy. If you want, he will recommend suppliers for tile, fixtures, vanities, vanity tops, etc., and (bonus) pass along his contractor’s discount for purchases from there, and (bigger bonus) pick up everything from the supplier and bring it to your house. Of course you can pick things out from wherever you want, but for someone like me who didn’t want to be scrambling all over the place and dealing with deliveries, this was the way to go.
Additionally, the attention to detail is exquisite. I cannot even relay in words how beautiful the tilework in my bathrooms is. Every cut is absolutely perfect, and the stone is laid beautifully. In my basement, you would never know that two odd shaped closets used to be there. Altogether, they did stunning work.
Norm is very easy to get a hold of, and answered all of my questions promptly. We used a lockbox on my doorknob with the key inside (all of this work took weeks) so I could go about my business and not have to worry about being there to let someone in. Norm and his crew are incredibly trustworthy and friendly and I never worried about leaving them in my house all day.
In short, don’t even hesitate to call Norpro for your job.

Norm is great. We hired him for a bathroom remodel recently, and he and his team did excellent work. Norm was easy to reach any time we had questions or needed to discuss the details of the project, and his crew was easy to work with as well – all really nice guys.
They stayed on budget and were very respectful of our place. They also bent over backwards to meet a demanding deadline… we had people coming to stay at our house, and they made sure we had a fully functional bathroom in time for their visit.

Being new to Chicago I was very worried about finding a new contractor in the big city– I am very picky and was spoiled by my contractor of many years in my small city. When it became apparent we needed to either remodel our master bath or move, we went to Community Home Center and they highly recommended Norpro. We took a chance and couldn’t be happier. Norm, the owner, was very professional-​he came by almost every day and inspected what had been done. He always answered calls and emails (that in itself is pretty amazing.) He also passes on his professional discount to the customer, which not everyone does. In short, Norm is honest, professional, accessiblle, and has a talented crew. And our bathroom is awesome!

They converted a condo unit that hadn’t been touched since it was built in the mid 1980s and turned it into a beautiful, up to date, and up to code, unit with amazing tile, paint job, electric, and all new appliances.

Norm and his guys always told me when they had found something else that needed attention. He could have ignored other problems, but he kept me well informed and always let ME make the decision.

Norm from Norpro is the only contractor I have ever met that actually sticks to the projected schedule. They are fast, pleasant, do great work and I would never hire another contractor. He completed a full kitchen remodel for me in 6 weeks and has since done numerous other jobs for us in both our rental property and our home. He has done work for a number of our friends who have also found him to be excellent. He isn’t the cheapest, but he is the best.

I hired Norpro to do some remodeling work in our basement. Norm’s guys put up walls, added electricity, primed and added trim and worked non-​stop for about 2.5 weeks. When finished, we had three new rooms– including a bathroom with detailed stone tile work. The guys were on time and reliable, easy to talk with, and Norm was very responsive, as other reviewers have said– he always answered my calls. We were on time and on budget, and the hard work was very appreciated. My only side note is that the finishing work was not consistent in some low visibility areas, but overall we are very very pleased. I would recommend Norpro to a friend and will use them again down the line! Thanks Norm!

We hired Norpro to do a gut remodel of a bathroom, and to re-​tile the fireplace surround in our living room. We have been through a number of remodeling projects over the years, and this was one of the best experiences we have ever had with a contractor. Norm Persky is extremely responsive, professional and attentive to detail. He virtually always answers his cell phone, which is amazing in and of itself, and he was on site every day. This project was completed on time and on budget. Norpro began the work exactly when they said they would, and despite some add-​ons, the entire project from start to finish took four weeks. They did an excellent job dealing with the inevitable issues that arise with remodeling in a vintage home (ours was built in 1937). Their workmanship is beautiful, particularly the tile work and wood trim, and we are extremely happy with the finished product both in the bathroom and on the living room fireplace. The workers were highly skilled, polite, careful and kind to our two dogs. They cordoned off their work area neatly, promptly cleared away their debris, and cleaned up their mess regularly. The project was completed with a minimum of disruption to our household. We also felt that we received excellent value for the price we paid – we obtained four estimates for the bathroom remodel, and one of them was almost twice the amount of Norpro’s estimate. Overall, we could not be more satisfied with Norpro’s work on this project.

I used Norpro three years ago for a dry bar in my family room. Did a great job. Hired them again to soundproof a wall in my bedroom — didn’t work. Not only did the soundproofing not work, but when I tried to contact the owner, Norm, directly, he ignored me. Since early March, I have called his office no fewer than 10 times. I received a call or two back from his assistant, who «assured» me that Norm would return my call. It’s mid-​May and I have yet to hear from him. As the owner of the business, I’d think he’d value his customers a little more. Very disappointed and will NOT be using them again — there are way too many contractors in this town to put up with this horrible customer service. Perhaps I wasn’t a big enough customer for him to feel the need to call me back, let alone ensure my satisfaction; however, I’d prefer to do business with a company that values ALL of its customers, not just the ones with big, expensive projects.

I wanted some tiling work done at my condo, and contacted Norpro Services who were highly recommended by a neighbor. Norman came over to discuss options and gave me some great ideas for the project.
