Specialties
Project Onward is an art gallery and studio dedicated to the professional development of artists with mental and developmental disabilities. Project Onward provides workspace, art materials, professional guidance, and opportunities for exhibition in Project Onward’s on-site art gallery and outside venues.
History
Established in 2004.
Project Onward was founded in response to the need for meaningful artistic outlets for artists with special needs as they transitioned into adulthood. Originally a program of Gallery 37, the City of Chicago’s youth employment program in the arts, Project Onward was designed to provide the «next step» for talented artists with developmental disabilities who were aging out of Gallery 37’s programs.
Project Onward supports adult artists of all ages who live with developmental disabilities and/or mental illness, providing the opportunity for each artist to accomplish important professional and personal goals: earning income, feeling pride in their work, and achieving inclusion within the larger community.
