Si Fu Chinese Latin Kitchen

Really good/​cute restaurant. It’s small and quaint but has really good food and drinks. The taco combinations are really fun and they all looked amazing.
The drinks are strong and tasty. They put a lot of ice though so you’ll have to ask them to go light on the ice.
Taco platters are good and reasonably priced. I went towards the «Latin» side of the menu:
Al pastor– good but spicy and the meat quality wasn’t as good as the other tacos
Beef barbacoa– amazing taco, loved it
Chicken Tinga– super tasty
Ancho Crusted Tuna– tuna was fresh and everything went together really well

Trying to find new place and save some money I used groupon and found this extremely good deal in this mexican/​Chinese restaurant. I was kinda curious why so cheap the deal and even more cause included a appetizer, 2 entrees and 2 drinks. After me and my mom review the menu I ordered al pastor burrito and she a stir fry rice with teriyaki chicken. We got the plates btw very fast we were actually in shock of the portion they were very big and came with a lot a food. Both plates were VERYYYYYYY good we loved it the place right away. Everything was so good even the egg rolls we got for appetizer. I really hope this restaurant continue with the good service and quality in their food for a long time cause you don’t find this interesting fusion often in any place.

Let me begin by saying the assistant manager (Hispanic gentlemen working on Friday night. Sorry I am not good with names) has exceptional customer service and very knowledgeable. The drinks were unique, tasty and strong. The Kimchi Fries were absolutely delicious and something you should definitely try.
The only downside was the meat (al pastor and beef barbecoa) in the tacos was not hot or the freshest. To be fair, it may be because we arrived an hour before closing. I will overlook these things and be back to try other unique items on the menu.
To sum it up… service, drinks, pricing, atmosphere, neighborhood and certain menu items were on point. Looking for a unique spin on Mexican Asian food? Begin here.

This is one of those places where I really hoped I just ordered the wrong thing.
First off, 5 stars to the workers and the place itself. Everyone was very nice and helpful, and the place was fun and warm and inviting. My husband and I were really excited to make this a new to-​go place.
Only the food was just okay. We got the pork egg rolls, which he loved and I was just okay with. They were more greasy than anything. But no big, I gave him my other half. Now the entrees… maybe we just ordered the wrong thing? Or the wrong combo of things?
I got the orange chicken burrito Latin-​style. It simply wasn’t orange chicken. Or maybe not even chicken, honestly. Let’s focus on what Chinese orange chicken is. I have had it grilled a few times, mostly fried, but either way it’s soaked in that orange, sometimes spicy sauce that is just full of flavor. This orange chicken here was tiny, tiny brownish bits of dry chicken with a sliiiiiight orange flavor. Soooo slight. And then the burrito fillings itself was 80% white, plain rice (didn’t taste any of the cilantro lime), and had very few fixings in it.
Overall, it was incredibly bland. I ended up unwrapping it and tried to eat something other than rice. The green sauce added some flavor, but it wasn’t enough.
As for my husband, he got the mongolian beef burrito Chino style. His complaint was that it was dry and needed some sort of sauce in it.
I think we’d try it again still? I would like to think the tacos would be good, and we can try a little bit of everything. But the fact that their orange chicken was just so far from it is making me hesitant.
Honestly, if you’re looking for a fusion kind of place, go to La Tacorea by the Belmont red/​brown line. It’s Mexican/​Korean and is super packed with flavors.

Orange chicken burrito made chino style is the best thing ever burritoed.
The carnitas stir fry made Latino was basically a plate of carnitas like you’d get at any other restaurant just with white rice — decent carnitas, this coming from a born and raised pilsen guy.
Their tostadas/​chips were a bit too greasey but had a hint of lime which was good, the guacamole was bland.
Empanadas de carne /​beef were good, could use a bit more seasoning but paired well with the sweet and sour sauce.
Good calm atmosphere, nice décor, small place good for a quick lunch date, meal with the kids.
I will be coming back to try the tacos in some Asian form, I’ll look on here for suggestions.

Oh Si Fu. There are positives and negatives. The positive: the food is friggen delicious. I la la la love the coconut curry seitan (which they’ve now discontinued :-(). I’ve tried the lemongrass tofu and I don’t love it as much, but tofu has never been my thing. But regardless, I love the idea of making your order Chino or Latino. Their guacamole is awesome!
Here’s the negative. I have had such a hard time with the staff. I’m sorry to be mean, but sometimes they just seem dumb. I can’t tell you how many times they have gotten my name wrong and my husband’s name wrong when we call in an order– it’s more often than not. A lot of the times, the person who answers the phone doesn’t seem to know the menu.
I keep coming back for the food because it is so delicous. But gosh– I hope the employees improve.

«I feel fat» is what she said to me just after leaving. I reminded her that she isn’t and shouldn’t talk that way. She went on to list all of her body parts that are fat as well. I knew why she started on this path, and allowed her to keep going a little until I told her not to over-​think it. See, I too shared the same notion which I spoke to myself «man, I feel fucking fat». «I need to lose some weight.» We both felt this way because of the meal we’d just shared. It was oily as FCUK! (That’s me, trying to save you from a vulgar word, you most likely know already and, me feel better about typing it) Oily like, they should have let it rest on paper towels before thinking to serve it. You’ll get to see the food porn later, I think it looks good despite the shinyness. There was an oily mess under the appetizers, much like what happens when an engine is leaking oil on the road. Blech.
Guac. and chips are made in house. This is cool but the chips were fresh out of the frying pan and very oily. Decided on sampling the vegetable Imperial rolls because the meat version was sold out. These veg rolls were all carbohydrate. When I’ve had veg rolls or spring rolls, I’ve been lucky to always experience rolls stuffed with a ton of fresh veggies. I.e. cabbage. Instead, it was stuffed with cellophane noodles and maybe a sliver of carrot. They could change the name to «Imperial Carb rolls». This too was very oily. And just for the sake of rounding out the appetizers, we got the beef empanada which was grossly bland and oily as well. I wonder if the chef doesn’t care about the oil or maybe a kitchen helper wasn’t staffed that day. (We stopped through deciding to forego brunch for something healthier; or so we thought.)
Between us and the appetizers, we hardly thought much of them. For the sake of not wasting money though, I did them some damage. If you read the beginning paragraph, at this point, I feel pretty gross.
This idea of Chino meets Latino is decent but needs some work. First off, the menu is over-​complicated. A newbie needs a few minutes to read through and get a feeling for the menu. Also, photographs of what to expect would be OH-​SO-​helpful. Staring at a black and white menu with a ton of words and boxes is hardly helpful in picturing what the meal could look like. The food wasn’t stellar but it wasn’t terrible either. Just not our thing. If not for that Groupon, I’m not sure I would have ever ventured in here. Just to note, I’m not the typical Groupon-​er. I buy them occasionally and when used, I like to spend some additional monies as a thank you for the offer. Here, I spent more than what was necessary.
If they revamped their menu and got a few more kitchen staff members to clean up the food and add a new depth of flavor to their offering, they may have a winner.
For a lazy, Sunday afternoon it was pretty depressing in here. Whereas the brunch spots and Bahn mi shop up the street were thriving. This is probably a pretty fun spot during warmer months, but as the cold is setting in, the eatery could use a little more heat both in its room temperature and on the plate.

and decided to give it a try and I’m glad I did. Is a fusion of Mexican and Asian food which I love both. You can make any of the food on the menu Mexican flavors or Asian flavors. It was a small cute place and all of the employees were helpful explains how to order and the process.
If your questioning if you will like it or not buy the
deal and go give it a try! I plan to go back again.
I ordered the burrito and my friend ordered the stir fry and we both enjoyed.
The prices were also reasonable.

The guy taking our order was so, so, so patient with us. It helped that there was nobody else in the restaurant. But we finally got our order in, with a crazy combination of tacos in either asian or latino style with three different proteins. I think he even threw in a extra wonton order in our meal. Very cool, thank you.
I hate to say that my tacos were a bit dry though. Maybe it was just too much tortilla for the filling. The asian tacos are incredibly spicy. And the latino tacos are lacking in flavor. Maybe because compared to the spiciness of the asian ones, they have none. I suppose I could have added some of their table sauce to my latino ones, but the tacos should stand on their own without needing to be doused in hot sauce to make them taste right. The wontons were just okay as well. I wanted to be impressed, but I wasn’t. Great service though! And they played good music, in a cute and cozy environment.

Bottom line: Get the guacamole and chips. Both are homemade and so delicious!
The concept here is that you choose your dish (tacos, burrito, stir fry, or salad) and then choose the protein from a list of about 10, and then decide if you want it chino style (Pickled Daikon-​Carrots, Cilantro, Cucumber, Jalapeño) or latino style (Onions, Cilantro, Lime). I like that there’s so many protein options, and since I couldn’t decide on just one, I got each of my 3 tacos with a different protein. I got the caramelized shrimp, coconut curry chicken and mongonlian beef. My favorite by far the caramelized shrimp and my least favorite was the mongolian beef. I’ve definitely had much, much better mongolian beef.
Overall the food here was decent, but nothing to go out of your way for. You can get better asian food and better latino food elsewhere, but this place is fun to try if you’re looking for the fusion of the two styles.

I agree with the negative reviews here about the food. I don’t understand how there can be raving reviews here unless they somehow went to a different place.
The egg rolls were greasy, the food was bland, and overall nothing about the food was impressive or satisfying for that matter. Even the rice was either under-​cooked or sat around for a long time. I was really looking forward to trying Asian Latino fusion food and this totally missed the mark. If they put a Vietnamese and a Mexican lady in the kitchen they could do far better. I love Vietnamese and Mexican food and this was a disappointment.

Tried several of the tacos here chino stayle. My favorite was the shrimp. The latin and chinese/​asian combo of flavors is something that is tough to find. I will be back here and I recommend anyone curious give it a try.
The empanada appetizer was good. If I had a critique, one seems not enough for the price and I prefer baked instead of fried.
Service was friendly and very helpful.

O.M.G. This place is divine. It’s all the things you want in a dining establishment rolled into one: interesting cuisine, affordable, quick and TASTY food.
After seeing it on Roscoe since this summer, my BF and I decided after a stop at Village Tap to try this place for dinner, since we love Mexican and Chinese food above all else in this world (minus our cats). I got the coconut curry chicken tacos, Latino style and BF got the Mongolian beef burrito, Chino style. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten 3 tacos so fast. We were pretty thrilled and were silent while we devoured our food. On our walk home, we declared this a new go-​to spot. Will absolutely be back to sample the whole menu.

The cream cheese wontons are the best! Crispy, sweet, and perfectly fried.
The curry coconut chicken is one of my favorite proteins for their tacos. Everything else was kind of a letdown. Especially the Mongolian beef.
Del Seoul is still the king of Asian-​Latino fusion in this town, but this place is no slouch either.
Will be back for more chino-​lation goodness.

I can’t think of anything to improve. This is a fun, innovative and inexpensive place to eat. Choose the craziest taco combination you can and enjoy!
Service at 4:30 on a Sunday was friendly and speedy. Food was fresh. Ambiance is fun. We will be back with Mellody.

Si Fu is what’s up! I love an establishment that’s BYOB and allows you to choose between two of the yummiest cuisines out there!
We came here right around their silent opening and even then it was faboo.
I had tacos (2 Latino tacos and 1 Chino taco) and they were really good and pretty large. Hubby had the fried rice Chino style and we split the guac. The guac needed more jalapeños and cilantro.
Community style hightop tables and open windows make this a nice environment along with the spacious patio.
Happy to have this solid joint in the neighborhood!

After reading all about this concept in some blog a few weeks ago the girl said we were going to be spending some time near by… cool.
Popped in for a quick Friday night bite. I chose the Mongolian beef Chinese style burrito. Pretty good, certainly assign interesting alternative to the regular. She picked up the veggie Chinese version with kimchi tasty too.
BYOB at the moment. When our dining neighbours needed glasses for their beer the staff pulled them out of a box new. Yup that fresh of a place they still have some things new in boxes.
Ample seating inside and a nice out door section. Service was fast and after we had a bite or two someone came out to check in with us.
Will be back to try some more.

You ever wonder what your life might be like if you did the thing? Like, you’re in your office doing the not-​thing, staring out your window over your cubicle wall, and daydreamin’ about doing the thing. Until the bosses 24 year old son walks by and asks you about the Johnson account and you’re just like, «Hey man, I’ve been handling the Johnson account for years, back the F off… I know you got a DUI, you shouldn’t even have this job, you little prick.» But, really, you just say, «Yes sir, I’m on it, sir. Sir.» Well, Si Fu Chino Latino Kitchen is what would’ve happened had you taken that risk. But you didn’t, so now you have to pay to eat here. And pay you should. (I still believe in you, though).

1. Chino — pickled daikon-​carrots,
cilantro, cucumber, jalapeño.
2. Latino — onions, cilantro, lime
The pros: The atmosphere is fun. There are 6 person tables that multiple different groups can sit at and pretend that the person you don’t know sitting mere inches from you is definitely not making you uncomfortable with her talk about an abortion. Oh, and there are a couple smaller tables for single parties.
We haaad: The Chino lemongrass chicken burrito, Sweet and spicy shrimpies Chino stir fry, and a single bbq pork Chino taco.
Everything was delicious, though, we both thought that the burrito and taco were a tad dry. That being said, there are a couple delish sauces at the table to use, one is a standard salsa verde, and the other is a combination of smokiness and love. So, you basically just have to add the moisture your self. The stir fry came with absolutely terrific kim chi, as well as very good rice and black beans. Oh, and they have cucumber water.
All in all, i’d recommend everything we tried. I’m really digging the multitudes of proteins to try. A very welcome addition to the Roscoe Village lineup.

I was a little leery about the Asian-​Latino fusion spot, but I was happy to see another option for latin food in Rosco Village (the ones that already exist are just ok). I’m happy to say Si Fu Chino was a pleasant surprise.
We walked into SFC and were immediately hit by a sensory overload. There’s a ton of items decorating the walls, etc. It’s pretty busy, but it works. It took us a moment to get out bearings and figure out where were supposed to go. I’d like to see menus closer to the door, thankfully it wasn’t crowded, because we had to get in line to get the menus (with the repurposed pipes, it’s not easy to get back out) and then needed some time to figure out what we wanted.
Ordering is Chipotle-​esque in that you have several dishes — tacos, stir fry, burritos, and sopas and you choose your protein and style for each. We both opted to go with the the taco combo. Ordering is a little clunky for tacos because you have to specify your protein, tortilla and style for each one. I ordered two sweet & spicy shrimp tacos, one chino and one latino and a mahi tempura taco chino-​style. He also got a mahi chino taco and two beef chino tacos.
Chino tacos = asian tacos and IMO the better option. Covered with sliced jalapeño, cucumber, cilantro, and pickled carrots, these are great. The latino tacos — onions, cilantro and lime — are fine, but pretty standard. Of my proteins, I preferred the shrimp, although I wouldn’t consider it spicy, but erring more toward the sweet side. The tables also have a few different hot sauces and red and green salsa to doctor your tacos. My only complaint about my tacos is that this use one tortilla per taco — I hate this because if you don’t wolf down your tortillas, they inevitably fall apart.
I think Si Fu Chino will do well here, solid options that should suit almost any diet.

Go for the pork tacos (I liked them better than the chicken) and I thought the salsa on the table (red one) was a bit spicy but really delicious. Next time, I’m going to try the burrito and guacamole!
