History

Established in 1999.

The Curragh first opened its doors in June 1999 and was located in Schaumburg right next to Woodfield Mall. The Curragh was hugely popular and quickly garnered a reputation for great food, perfect pints and true Irish hospitality. Its annual St. Patrick’s Day Fleadh (festival) attracted visitors from far and wide and was considered by many to be the Mother of all Parties!

After several successful years operating in Schaumburg, the Curragh closed its doors in 2006 to make way for a major retail development. But this was not to be the end, merely the next chapter. The Curragh was carefully dismantled, piece by piece and plans were put in place to find a new home. The decision on where to relocate was an easy one and Edison Park would soon become home to the new Curragh. After three years of careful planning, thoughtful design and painstaking hard work, the original Curragh re-​opened in Edison Park in January 2009.

We had a party in the Curragh party room last weekend. The room is very nice and cozy. The staff was amazing — fun, energetic, on top of everything! We got lots of compliments on how excellent the food was. There was plenty of space even with tables set up and 65 guests. I can’t recommend it enough. And there’s valet parking. The attention during planning and the event was outstanding!

This is my first one star review. My time here was only good because of my friends.
Firstly, it was almost an hour for a table. I can deal with that. Popularity causes that. Then, we were sat and beer orders were taken. I ordered a water.
So, the beers come, but not my water. At this time, I ordered my beer. An angry orchard. The waiter took the request and our orders. I ordered a TBA and soup.
Moving onward. My soup came way before my sandwich. I never got my water or my beer.
Needless to say, I’m not happy with how I was forgotten by the wait staff.

Such a great restaurant! We went on a Tuesday night around 6:30 so it was a little quiet but that actually worked out really well! We were seated at a table right in front of the fire (yes a real fireplace!) which was so great because I was freezing.
Our waitress Rachel was so friendly and attentive! She had recommendations and dealt with my indecisiveness perfectly haha
It was half off bottle of wine night so obviously that’s what we did. It paired with the fire just right!
We got a free appetizer (we got the Reuben rolls) because of my Unilocal check in and also ordered the fish and chips to share. They were perfectly crispy and I loved the fries.
I wanted dessert and the bread pudding sounded amazing but it doesn’t come with ice cream. Rachel was so nice about it and added ice cream for me and let me tell you, probably the best bread pudding I’ve ever had. With the hot and cold combo it was seriously amazing, we ate every bite!
Loved it here. I’ve never been to Ireland, it’s always been a dream of mine, but I imagine a real Irish restaurant looks like this. It was so cozy it almost felt like I was in someone’s home.
Thanks for the great food and service! I don’t live too close to here but based on my experience I’ll be bringing more friends back soon!

Fantastic. Someone in the area taking advantage of the new happy hour laws. From 3 – 6 all pints are $ 4. Thats right all of them. They have the usually Irish beers and a bunch of local craft beers. Appetizers ½ off 3 – 6. Cant go wrong. The dinner menu always has a couple specials that are very good as well as the normal menu. Soups are awesome. Once in awhile they have a chicken tortilla soup that is off the charts. Come early and have Cathy pour you the perfect. Gotta go, just made myself thirsty. Slainte!

A great place to eat! A few things about this place that was exceptional.
I won a 20.00 gift card from a 5k race in 2014 so my girlfriend and we FINALLY decided to come here.
I had the Irish sausage. It was good. However it can’t compare to Polish and Italian sausage, but I wanted to try it since I like to explore different foods. It came with mash potatoes.
When I checked in on Unilocal,Unilocal gave me a free appetizer with a purchase of 12.00 or more. So I had the chicken nachos. My girlfriend had ribs. I believe it had some sort of special sauce on it. It was excellent as well. She also had dessert which was excellent. She had ice tea and I had Guinness and a Leinekugels seasonal beer.
We only spent 20.00 that totaled over 50.00 with the gift card and Unilocal offer.
Dan was on top of his job as our waiter. He was always on top of it and provided excellent customer service. He always had his opinion on the foods and you can tell he was working hard. Blue collared all the way. Nicely done.
Parking is limited. We got lucky with pay for parking parallel in front of the street. If you go behind the restaurant you need, for the most spaces in the side street, a permit unless it’s next to the businesses. So be ready to find parking around the area and driving in circles. That is not the restaurants fault. It’s just the location.
A definite must to go!

Great Irish & American food.
I have been here at least 2 dozen times or more. Each time I’m there I can honestly tell you I have zero complaints.
A vast selection of both bottled and on-​tap beers.
Wait staff is very friendly and I never had to wait for more than a few minutes for my drink.
Food is excellent from the appetizers to the entrée’s. I would highly recommend the Guinness Fish & Chips. At first it would appear a bit pricey at 15 $ but once it arrives you notice that is still a lot of food for the money … and it’s fantastic. But you cant go wrong with the Reuben or corned beef sandwiches or the Shepards Pie.
Tables fill in quickly and parking is atrocious (Edison Park). They do take reservations.

Great little local Irish pub. The inside décor is warm, lots of wooden finishes, and a fireplace, which is great during cold winters. Often live music is playing, especially on weekends.
I don’t usually come here for dinner; the food is hit or miss, sometimes mediocre, sometimes pretty good. I might have appetizers or desert, but wouldn’t necessarily recommend dinner. I give four stars because the Curragh is a pub that serves food, not a restaurant that serves beer.

I’ve visited their Glenview location several times, and The Curragh’s version of the American Irish pub is an effective one. It’s not authentic, but it is very, very handsome, and the food and drink are satisfying.
The main attraction for me is beer; they do not boast a world-​beating selection of drafts, but they do outperform the typical Chicago «Irish» pub in this category. There are a couple dozen from which to choose, including several local gems from Goose Island, Revolution, Temperance, et al. And crowning the list is Kilkenny Irish Ale, a rare treat in the States, and a very fond memory of my first trip to Ireland.
I have found that this is a great spot to sit at the bar in the middle of the afternoon and enjoy a couple of pints. I prefer to read a book on occasions like this, but you could just as easily chat up the bartender or fellow patrons. They play music at a low volume and the TV is muted.
I can never see the name or hear of this place without having the Irish folk song «The Curragh of Kildare» running through my head for another hour. It’s almost as good a pub as that is a song. Almost. We’re talking about beautiful, melancholy versions such as the Furey brothers and Christy Moore gave us, not that hippy-​dippy nonsense from The Johnstons.

Solid spot. They had a good beer selection (with Guinness of course). Service was pretty good. Our waitress was friendly. She came to check on us enough while leaving us alone to chat.
I ordered the chicken boxty (a traditional Irish potato pancake with various fillings) which came with a basil pesto cream sauce. It was a very large portion. It came pretty close to what I remembered from Ireland in terms of the potato pancake. The sauce was good but not my favorite.
The sides, however, fell completely flat. The mashed potatoes and veggies did not taste fresh at all. The veggies looked like the pre-​cut/​previously frozen type and had no seasoning. The mashed potatoes were also bland. The boxty was so huge however that I didn’t miss the sides at all.
My friend seemed to enjoy her Reuben sandwich (it too was huge). Overall, it was pretty cheap ($ 24 with tax and a good tip). It’s not a destination but a good spot in the area.

My boyfriend called ahead of time to make sure they actually served brunch and whether there was a wait. The hostess let him know that they do have brunch and there was a small wait. We decided to go anyway and when we arrived she remembered him from the phone and already had a perfectly shaded patio table waiting for us, set up with silverware and all. It was totally unexpected and it was very sweet!
With a Unilocal check-​in you get a free appetizer so we opted for the spinach artichoke dip, which turned out to be delicious. So delicious in fact, that I overindulged and was unable to eat more that one fish stick! The fish sticks were huge and I loved the batter. Sometimes the fried batter is too much and not very good, but this was great! My boyfriend took my left overs home to eat for dinner that night and he said they were tasty warmed up as well.
He ordered the Sherpherd’s Pie and it was also very good! I have an unhealthy love for mashed potatoes so I knew I’d like it no matter what, but it was actually very tasty. Again a huge portion of food, so he had those left overs as well.
His brother and his fiancé ordered pancakes and some sort of hash breakfast. They were also very impressed and they all intend to go back!

My husband and I love coming to the Curragh — mostly for Guinness and the occasional shepherd’s pie or fish and chips. It’s a good place to just belly up to the bar and get a perfectly poured pint (or several in my case). There is also a nice outdoor patio for when it is nice outside.
The beer selection is okay — I mean, I would probably never drink anything but Guinness here so I don’t really care what else they have (to be honest) but I have seen that they usually have some Revolution, Smithwicks, Harp, etc. on tap. In the fall I remember they had a few pumpkin beers on tap which were all delicious.
The food is classic pub fare /​comfort food. I love the shepherds pie.
The only down side of this place is that when they have live music it is on that stage that is like 7 feet from the bar and it is way too loud. Usually we get out of there at the first sign of someone with some sort of instrument up on the stage. Bad news. I know a lot of people like live music, but it’s just too much for me when I’m sitting right there at a bar trying to talk to someone.
I would recommend the Curragh if you want some good food or a nice, dark bar to have a few great pints of Guinness. In fact, just writing this made me want to be there sipping one right now!

This local pub has been on my list for a while, and we finally made it in here with a Groupon to boot. We came on a nicely uncrowded weekday evening and the atmosphere is what one would want in a pub — cozy, inviting, and comfortable and with beer/​whiskey not far away. I think I like this location better than the Skokie one in terms of layout and feel. For our dinners, wife had their Dungarvan salmon and I tried their classic fare of fish and chips. My dinner was quite nice, but wife’s salmon wasn’t quite up there having that frozen fish taste. They have plenty of TV’s here also for sports viewing and I also got to catch up with the better-than-0.500 Cubs a little tonight. Overall, a nice place to chill in Edison Park, and I will be back.

Visited on a Saturday before St. Paddy’s day and the place was packed. Had about a 30 minute wait which was ok since they have an up stairs bar area that wasn’t pack and was quite enough for my wife and i to have a conversation.
Was seated in about the expected wait time, the staff was prompt and friendly considering how crazy the place was. I ordered the corned beef with cabbage and mashed potato which was pretty good. I do better at home ;-) but this was pretty good. My wife had the shepherds pie which was again ok, not the best i have ever sampled but ok.
Only thing that bothered my was they had a checking special available, which was one of the reasons we decided to try this place. The special had no notes about when we could use it, when i asked about using it I was told I couldn’t on Saturdays or holidays. If it wasn’t for the bait and switch i would have given this place a 4 not 3.

I was a little bit nervous to come to the Curragh on Friday night after a not so great experience that I had at their Skokie location about a year and a half ago. Thankfully, I left pleasantly surprised!
We stopped in on Friday night (during the hawks game) without a reservation after finding that every.single.table. at Firewater across the street was reserved, with no care from any staff person to help us out (another story.)
We were greeted at Curragh by the hostess, who offered us a table in the front room right away, or a 10 minute wait for a seat in the bar. Knowing that the hawks were playing and they had live music, we opted to wait for a seat in the bar. I’m glad we did.
The atmosphere was lively and our server was friendly and attentive. We started with the hummus (free appetizer with Unilocal!check in!) and it was creamy and well seasoned. Served with pita triangles and carrot sticks.
I ordered the fish and chips as my entrée, the test of any good Irish pub. The dish comes with 3 large fillets, fries, tartar sauce, and cole slaw. The menu touts «hand-​cut» fries, but these were obviously not. Steak fries, which were still good and crispy, but not hand-​cut. The fish fillets were large and well prepared, due to plating, some of the breading became soggy. If they were served on a piece of newspaper or something like that, they would’ve stayed crisp. That would be my only suggestion.
The live music was excellent, and added a great low-​key vibe. I am no longer afraid of Curragh and look forward to returning!
