The Mission Theater

I came here just to lose my mind over The Improvised Shakespeare Company.
Oh my god.
They were amazing.
One of the top improv performances I’ve seen,
I rate them alongside Magnet’s Trike,
but sooo different.
I recall buying tickets and thinking
«Wow, $ 16, really?»
and then leaving, wanting to buy tickets for the later show that night willing to pay $ 30+.
FYI they were SOLD OUT,
so buy those ahead of time.
It’s been a while since a show has followed me home
and been incorporated into my inner monologue,
but this one has really hung around my brain space.
I’ve had friends say they’ve seen these guys 15 times over
and have yet to be disappointed.
I fully believe.
My only gripe is the area around it.
Chain chain chaaaains all over the place.
I’m also 100% convinced it is next to the largest Whole Foods ever;
I’ve lived in Boulder, Colorado and I’m pretty sure this one is bigger.
But whatever, I got a piece of Chicago Diner Cookies and Cream cake afterwards and felt okay with life while exchanging quotes from the show with my SO.
I also saw TJ and Dave.
Danny Pudi was there!
He looked like he enjoyed it.

Great spot a little off of the beaten path. The Mission Theater offers an eclectic crowd, has an outdoor beer garden (which was clearly popular even on a Wednesday night), and a large indoor area if you are looking more for a lounge area. The theater is intimate and despite being a little cramped, the servers were able to get to you quickly and make sure your orders were taken. TJ and Dave provided an entertaining show. If you are visiting Chicago, add this to your list of things to do, and if you are fortunate enough to live in the city, become a regular!

I can’t recommend this theater enough! I have seen many shows here including; TJ & Dave, TONE, the Curio Show and Undressed. Each performance was unique and engaging and funny in its own way. Bring your family, take a date, go alone! The community of people working at the mission theater are sure to produce a memorable evening of edifying entertainment no matter what night you find yourself there.

The home of Great improv is the heart of Mission Theater. Lovers of theater and improvisation must see TJ & Dave. The sketch revue is not to be missed as well. You can’t go wrong at The Mission.

The Mission is definitely doing some of the most interesting work in Chicago right now, particularly TJ and Dave, The Curio Show and whatever the current sketch review happens to be (right now it’s «Undressed»).
Do not go see improvised musicals based on popular movies or television shows. Do not go see shows about video games. Go see shows about relationships and human beings.
New students of improvisation should go see TJ and Dave as often as possible and pay very close attention.
Plus, I hear there’s onion rings.
If you don’t go and I find out about it I will stop at nothing to make sure your reputation and your family’s reputation in Hollywood is destroyed forever. This town runs on whispers, I swear to God.
