U2 in Chicago – Innocence & Experience Night 5

They played Gloria again as the second song replacing Electric Co and or Out of Control. Of course I went ape shit. I got really sweaty during that song.
I had another OMG moment at the show. Thankfully I didn’t have any frozen yogurt or any other culinary substance in my mouth.
This isn’t a super rare track. It’s a song from the new album, one of their better tracks. I am surprised that this is not a regular staple.
U2 have been teasing a lot of the US fans with snippets of California, however, they did the song properly in full which was really cool.
They did play it in Vancouver as a tour opener exclusive along with Troubles. Hearing this live reminded me that this song has a lot of cool song writing elements that casual fans would sweep under rug.
I could barely hear Larry’s drums. They may have been under mixed. It’s also possible that he just wasn’t playing to his full potential being hung over from the night before.
During Bullet The Blue Sky when Bono started yelling prices IE: $ 100, $ 200 etc. I started throwing fake Monopoly money around. I’ve been wanting to do this for a while now. I found some really cheap Monopoly money at a toy store earlier in the week. Every night the rant is different between the first verse and chorus.
The show was good and steady, however, I could tell that the audience was a bit burnt out with 5 shows in Chicago.
The show ended with a really good version 40 which is one of my FAVORITE top 20 U2 songs. I love it ’cause it reminds of a Joy Division song.
