Webb Masonry Restoration

I am so disappointed to see that Webb Masonry clearly doesn’t know how to manage a project. They have had three stories of scaffolding up and blocked off a very busy sidewalk for almost six months without doing any work. They have unapologetically taken over part of my yard without discussing it with me. I know the city of Chicago can be difficult to work with, based on communication with the building owner it seems like Webb doesn’t know how to get permitting etc in a timely manner. Your contractors ability to work within Chicago’s permitting process is an important factor.
It is my sincere opinion that based on the lack of work for this very large project Webb has bit off more than they can chew. I think it is very important to hire a company who knows their capabilities. After discussion with other construction professionals I have been told there is absolutely no reason this project should be taking this long unless the contractor is not capable of the work or they accept projects they do not have the time to work on. If timeliness and expertise in how to manage a project in Chicago is important to you I would look past Webb Masonry and onto another.

From bad to worse… A full month has gone by since my original review, and Dan Webb has done NOTHING to move this project forward. The project that began in November, and was supposed to be done by the end of May, has not even begun in earnest as of the end of May. All Dan has done is erect scaffolding, close off the sidewalk, and turn the block into an unsightly construction zone. This project is a complete disgrace.

dan & his crew of rick & ganga did a really nice job restoring my chimney & cutting it down 1.5 ft. they replaced the terra cotta cap in great shape. he points out the problems, if the roofers don’t slant the terra cotta tiles correctly & how this error will damage the brick walls on my 3-​flat. he is definitely not a fly-​by-​night company.

Dan is a really nice guy who has his work garage attatched to his house. I was walking the dog one day and saw him loading up his truck and asked him if he could recommend someone to clean out my rain gutters. He said he would take care of it himself. He dropped by a couple of days latter with a couple of guys and did the work for a very reasonable price.

Dan’s a friendly neighborhood guy who knows lots of people in the area and has done a lot of work with local buildings. He’s enthusiastic and has a lot of energy and will spend time considering alternatives. His team’s workmanship is fine; however, they left a mess on our new sidewalk splattering a bunch of tar that stained it. Follow through can be a bit frustrating, as it is with many contractors. It took them about 6 months to finally finish off one piece of our work. In the end, they did follow through and we’re now happy.
We’ll consider using them again but we learned our lesson: do not pay the final bill until after all work is done.
