La Quinta Inn San Diego Chula Vista

Not a bad La Quinta overall. I’d say it was definitely a good place for the price. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, which I very much appreciated. They also gave me the military rate for my room, again very much appreciated! The only thing I’d say was lacking was the continental breakfast. It had waffles, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, and some fruit & pastries. I just wish they had a hot breakfast option like eggs & bacon or something similar. Also, the wifi was fast and easy to connect to on my devices, always a plus. I’d stay here again if in the area!

At check in the staff was unfriendly and said they only had one night open. Needing two nights I got online and booked my room for the next night. So much for booked solid. The room has three lamps only one turns on. The smoke detector is hanging by the wire. There was a car show in town and most of the car show people are staying in the motel. It’s 10pm and there in the parking lot with their stereos cranked, drinking beer, and being loud. Not a good place to sleep. There is a dead roach in the room, no trash bags to be found, and the room smells like moth balls. For the amount we payed I expect much better.

Aesthetically pleasing. The grounds are well kept, the front staff is great and the price was good too. The rooms were recently updated so that is also a plus. Unfortunately when we made the reservation, I had requested a first floor room since I have some terrible vertigo. They said they would hold a first floor room for me but when we checked in they said there were no more ground floor rooms (GRRRR). Other than that, this place is quite possibly the BEST place to stay in the south bay for your money!

The rooms are nice and the price is right BUT nothing like having a hooker work out of the room right next to you. Ran in to her pimp in the morning quite nice gentleman.
Went over to the circle K in the morning for coffee and jokingly told the tenet that I had a working girl right next to my hotel room. He wasn’t surprised at all. In fact he said a bunch of girls work that hotel. He also said a bunch of underage girls work a room here too.
I’d give this hotel a higher review if it wasn’t for the street walkers.

Oh, boy… where to begin…
When we checked in (early evening), we decided to leave our car parked out front and walk our luggage to our room in the rear of the hotel, because we saw that the back area looked a bit… sketchy (more on this later).
My wife had called ahead and requested a room above the first floor (she doesn’t like ground-​level hotel rooms). The lady at the front desk placed us in a first floor room. My Wife asked about the previous request, and the lady said, «Sorry, we don’t have available rooms above the first floor that have refrigerators and microwaves.»
My wife told her that she REALLY preferred a room on a higher floor.
She said, «Okay, I’ll put you in this room on the third floor.»
Hmmm…
When we got to our room on the third floor, we were surprised to discover that neither of our key cards would open the door. There was someone from the housekeeping department a few doors down, and she let us in after asking to see our key envelope.
We decided to go eat at the Denny’s in the parking lot because, well, it was in the parking lot. On the way, we stopped at the front desk to get keys that might open our door after dinner.
The same lady told me in a somewhat condescending tone that the key cards had to be «kept away from other cards and cell phones». They had been near neither, but we had no interest in arguing with her. This time, she actually programmed our cards.
The room was typical for a hotel right by the freeway… a bit on the dingy side. The really interesting thing was BEHIND the hotel. There is a large open field on the far side of a road that ends in a cul-​de-​sac. This cul-​de-​sac was about 150 feet from where we would have parked our car (told you I’d get to it). The cul-de-sac’s main feature was a mini van, parked permanently (with weeds growing up around it) with someone living in it. As a bonus, each night after nightfall (we stayed 2 nights) other cars would arrive, the inhabitants would hang out, and then they would sleep there in those cars as well. It was a delightful scene.
On the first morning we were there, hotel staff removed a mattress from one of the rooms and placed it in a dumpster (!). By that night, one of the denizens of the homeless car camp had secured it and it was atop their car. Score!
I know, you’re impressed so far… but just wait. After I tell you about the breakfast scene, I’ll share the most amazing part of our stay.
Y’know how some hotels have a fairly decent selection for breakfast?
Not so much, here. They have sugary cereals, hard boiled eggs, a juice machine that was turned off so it would dispense nothing, tiny stale muffins, etc. Looking for the machine that you can use to make your own waffles? It’s there… it’s just inexplicably sitting across the lobby in its own little realm. Looking for some of those powdered eggs and sausage or bacon? Keep looking… not gonna find them here.
Okay, brace yourself.
On our first night at this hotel, we went to bed at about 9:30.
About 15 minutes later, we hear a KNOCK-​KNOCK-​KNOCK on our door, followed approximately 2 seconds later by someone OPENING our door with a key card. Luckily, I had closed the little privacy hinge, so the door only opened about 3 inches. I rushed over to the door, looked through the opening, and asked what was up.
There was a girl there with a name tag (wish I had read it) who seemed quite flustered by my presence. She stammered, «Oh! I’m very sorry sir. Our system went down and we’re checking the rooms.»
Checking the rooms… by going around and walking into them at 9:45pm…because the «system is down»?
Obviously, this struck us as odd (and it scared our kids, too) so I called the front desk and asked, «are you actually sending someone around to ‘check the rooms’ at this hour?»
«Yes sir, I’m very sorry about that. Our system is down, so we’re having to write everything down, and…» she trailed off.
It occurred to us that a phone call might have been a preferable «room-​checking» method, as the phones were obviously working.
Just bizarre.
I’ll give you one guess as to whether we would ever stay at this La Quinta again.

Really clean and they allow dogs! Loved my stay here.

Clean and not smelly; customer service is always friendly. We always ask for a room in the back because sometimes late night activity in the Denny’s parking lot in front can be loud.

I made reservations over 2 months early for our trip to Chula Vista. I specifically called the La Quinta in Chula Vista to reserve adjoining rooms for myself and my boyfriend and one for his mother, who is blind. I was assured that this would not be a problem as they have two sets of adjoining rooms. When we got to the hotel early before check-​in, the manager again assured us that the rooms would be ready at 3pm (it was roughly 1:30pm when we checked with the hotel). A little after 3pm, I received a phone from the hotel stating our rooms were ready. We got back to the hotel and checked in assuming that the special request which I had made far in advance was honored. We got to our rooms only to find out that they were not in fact adjoining as promised. So back to the front desk I went and was told that the adjoining rooms were taken despite being told by the manager that we’d definitely have the adjoining rooms. The front desk staff was not helpful and basically said sorry but oh well. I loved going back to my boyfriend’s mother and telling her that her one request was not honored as promised multiple times by the manager and staff. In case of an emergency, she wanted to know that she could just open the adjoining door and be safe with us.
On top of that, the toilet is so low that you have to squat down to sit on it. The shower faucet dripped all night, and there was hair in the shower in the supposedly clean room.
Next time we make the trip to Chula Vista to visit my boyfriend’s grandfather at the nursing home down the street, we’ll be staying at the Comfort Inn across the street. Hopefully they will be more concerned with a disabled customer’s request.

DO NOT STAY HERE! It was awful and I wouldn’t want anyone else to go through this.
I got in super late, as my flight was over an hour and a half late so I didn’t get checked in and settled in until 1am. The check in was great. The girl was super fast and nice, and they didn’t even require a credit card on file since it was prepaid. Not a bad area either. I was tired and just wanted to sleep before I had to get up to work.
My room was on the first level so that was convenient. I get to the room and it has a funny smell that I notice as soon as I open it. I walk in and started sneezing. Didn’t think it was too bad so I didn’t say anything.
The sleeping area was nice and there is even a desk with a couple of chairs, but the bathroom is seriously outdated.
I was settling in bed in a dark room and I turned on my phone. That’s when I noticed that there is so much dust floating around in the air, which was visible with the light from my cell phone. I got up to try and figure out where it was coming from. I realized that there was dust coming from the bed when you sit on it and the air conditioner was exacerbating the effect of all of the dust in the room. But it was warm and stuffy in the room so it needed to be on.
Then I started to hear EVERYTHING in the rooms next to me. The walls are extremely thin. I finally fall asleep.
I get up at 7am to take a shower. The handles in the shower are old, unlabeled, and hard to regulate. It took me forever to get the water to a tolerable temperature. It was either steaming hot or super cold. I couldn’t get a medium. Finally get that going and I get in the shower. Then I realize that the water is gathering in the tub as I shower. I finish showering and get out and the water takes about another 3 – 4 minutes to go down the drain. Hmmmmm… must have a plumbing problem. I get ready and go to have breakfast.
The breakfast sucks. They had cold hard boiled eggs in a refrigerator with milk and individual yogurt cups (Yoplait, I think). They had 3 cereals that looked super sweet and some fruit juices and hot water for tea that dispense through a machine. I didn’t feel like making myself a waffle out of ready made batter that had been sitting there for who knows how long so I chose to have a muffin the side of the palm of my hand which tasted stale (I ate a bite and a half and threw it away), toast (I wouldn’t know if it was stale because I toasted it) with peanut butter that was also not fresh because it was drying out with hard clumps in it that wouldn’t soften with heat although it was creamy peanut butter, a cup of coffee which was worse than gas station coffee no matter how much sugar and cream I put in it, and an over ripe banana that already had brown spots all over it. I have had MUCH better breakfasts at other hotels that I have paid less for per night. I’m going to Denny’s next door for breakfast in the morning.
I get back to the room after a long day of working and I drank a bunch of water so I had to use the rest room. I flush the toilet afterward and it quickly fills the toilet and won’t stop running. It quickly floods the bathroom and I had to go in there and turn off the water, almost slipping and falling a couple of times and put down all of the towels in the bathroom on the floor to soak up some of the water. I ask for a new room but they are booked up so I have to stay here and wait for the front desk lady to come and plunge the toilet and put down more towels because the bathroom is a lake and the water is seeping into the room. The maintenance guy comes, soaks up the toilet water with a bunch of USED towels, re-​flushes the toilet and it works so he puts down new towels and says he will be back tomorrow to clean the floor in the bathroom. WTF?! I don’t even get a clean bathroom floor to walk on? I guess I won’t be walking into the bathroom with only socks on tomorrow morning, let alone taking a shower!
Needless to say, their bathroom needs to be fixed, they need to put more effort into their breakfast and get fresher foods, and actually clean when someone is staying in a room and a plumbing catastrophe happens and you can’t move them to another room.
This was entirely NOT worth the cost! Total waste of money! I’m so glad i’m checking out in the morning!

On the plus side: No pet fees, rooms were clean, and bed were comfortable.
On the minus side: My room (supposed non smoking room) reeked of smoke so I asked to change rooms. Front desk kinda acted like they didn’t believe me.
The hotel (no fault of staff) is very close to a major freeway — so very noisy. Ask for a room facing away from the freeway. My friends who stayed on the side facing freeway had to wear earplugs to get a night’s sleep. The rooms should have better sound proofing; such as double paned glass.
The breakfast was, well, meager. I stayed at a competitor’s motel a week earlier for about same price and they had full-​on breakfast — bacon, eggs, sausage, waffles, etc. La Quinta had waffles and some muffins, cereal and toast; that’s it.
Also, wii-​fi was dismally unusably slow. I clocked it 0.83mbps. My cell data connection, by comparison, had 50mbps. I know lot of guests being online will bring the network speed down. La Quinta need to update their wi-​fi equipment to handle heavier traffic loads.
Lastly: over zealous cleaning staff. I had some paper bowls and plastic utensils for feeding my dog. And the cleaning staff threw them away. (they weren’t soiled). Had to run out to store for more, then hide it thereafter.

Rude customer service from two ladies. 3 stars because it’s not the hotels fault they are bad employees. Oh, and a Denny’s is within walking like in the same parking lot.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 days. This is a pet friendly hotel and as much as I love animals, noisy pets do not belong in «human hotels!» That’s why they have «pet hotels.» There was a dog who kept barking non stop all night. I called front desk and complained, they called the owner, but they could not get a hold of the owner. By 2:00 am, I was frustrated, exhausted, and angry, so I called front desk again, and they stilled couldn’t get a hold of the owner. For my inconvenience, they gave me one complimentary night. Bad experience!!! Barking dog!!! Frustrated customer!!!

Pros: Room was clean and newly renovated. Decent breakfast and the rate was good also. Dog friendly for those traveling with a dog.
Cons: The room we booked over the phone had a mini fridge and microwave, but when we checked in they said that room was not available because it was dirty. So I was a little upset, but no big deal. Room 351’s A/​C unit was buzzing very loud, they offered to move us, but we were already in bed. Luckily it wasn’t extremely hot, so I turned it off and fell right asleep.
They deserve 3.5 stars, but I gave them a 4 because overall it was an ok stay for just one night. I would stay again as long as the A/​C works properly. If you get room 351 ask if it was repaired.

My group and I were very impressed by the good value we got in staying here. We chose a basic room to save some money.

problems fixed in reasonable amount of time (air conditioning was broken, and the maintenance guy came right away to fix it & TV broke one morning and they changed it within a couple hours)

noisy, even during the night (probably cuz there’s a 24 hour Denny’s right beside)
shower head is low
water always gets onto the floor when having a shower.

Stayed here for a 1 night visit to catch up with some friends that moved to the area from LA… I booked through
and asked for a fridge and non smoking room.
When we arrived we opened our door and it REEKED of smoke, we also DIDNT have a fridge!
I heard them say they were COMPLETELY booked when we arrived so I knew right away we werent going to get a room change!
So a bit later I went to turn on the air conditioner and it SPIT dust at me and also a gum wrapper with chewed gum in it… I’ve stayed here before and i’m just REALLY disapointed in this stay!
At least the sheets and bed were clean!

I booked through AAA for two nights to attend a concert at Sleep Train Amphitheater. Unfortunately our arrival was not a good experience and hopefully it was an isolated case. After a late night check in we arrived to our room to find dirty towels balled up on the bathroom counter, trash in both trash cans, and a bed that appeared slept in. The front desk moved us to another room but it did not have the refrigerator and microwave that we had paid extra to have. I called the front desk again and they did offer to move us a second time but at this point we just wanted to go to bed so I settled for a credit to my bill. I verified the credit upon check out however the final charges to my bank account do not reflect an adjustment & I still have no resolution from La Quinta
Other than this incident, our new room was clean and we had no other issue with our stay. However it was quite inconvenient and unsettling to deal with upon arrival.

After a great stay at a different La Quinta Inn, I decided that my family (hubby, my boy, and myself) would stay here for the night after hanging out with hubby’s family all day.
This La Quinta Inn is conveniently located right off of the freeway, and it’s surrounded by equally convenient businesses (gas station, Mexican seafood restaurant, late-​night food restaurant).
We stayed in a room with one king sized bed. The room also had a reclining chair, desk and chair, flat screen, and a good sized bathroom.
The bed was comfy, there was plenty of warm shower water, and we all had a good nights sleep. Breakfast downstairs was great. My son enjoyed making his waffle. And even though there is a wait for the waffle station, everyone there was really nice and cooperative and helpful (keeping the station clean and helping whoever didn’t know how to make a waffle).
The price for a weekend overnight stay was the perfect price, especially if you break it down per person and include the price per person for breakfast. It’s a steal if you consider it that way.
The ladies at the desk were pleasant, and wi-​fi is free and does not require a password.
Should we need another overnight stay in this area, I’d definitely come back here!!!
