Rodeway Inn & Suites Chula Vista San Diego South

I would be very cautious about this place. Had family come in to stay from out of town. One bedroom was fine, but the other had bed bugs! Yes. Had to switch rooms. That was it for us. Never again. Always a recommendation to check all your hotel rooms no matter where.

Im not sure how some people gave this place 5 stars, they must work here. First off, this is the loudest room i have ever stayed in. I can hear EVERYTHING from up stairs, barefoot walking, the remote control hitting the floor, normal talking. Secondly, I woke up at 3 AM and decided to check in for my flight this morning only to find out the internet password changed inn the middle of the night, no big deal tho so i call the office to get the new one but no one answers. I walk down to the office only to find out there is no one here at night. I stay at hotels ever week for work, this is the first time there is no one on the property at night. Lastly, if you dont get here early i assume you will be parking down the street, parking is only for about 15 cars. Horrible stay here. Once inside the room tho i was surprised at how good the room looked for this area, and the guy that checked me in was cool so i can justify 2 stars.

Was very nervous driving up to this hotel, a questionable area, with a run down feel. When I walked in the room I was pleasantly surprised. Great place for the price, it’s right by the train stop which made traveling optimal. The two bed-​room had a separate room with the second bed which made it hard to feel the air conditioning. Besides that the money was well spent.

They say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, well I gave what happened in Vegas a ride home to San Diego. Some friends needed some last minute lodging some place in town and after staying one night at the Sleazy-​8 Motel (a South County Rite of Passage) somehow they ended up at the Rodeway. While I’ve driven by this location countless times but never paid any attention to it. The exterior, despite a recent refreshing layer of paint, is a nondescript brown. But the interiors of the rooms are incredibly nice given the locale, other options, and the price point. Having a multi-​room suite is a rare find for Chula Vista and I was impressed by the furnishings. While it may be unknown to locals (because why would we need a place like this if we’re local), it’s a pretty popular spot to stay, with most rooms completely booked any given night. The clientele varies from your run of the mill tourists seeking cheaper lodgings to some admittedly less than savory customers. Keep in mind, the price spikes considerably on the weekends, more so during the summer, which would put this place within the same range as nicer locations elsewhere in SD.

Very bad side of town. Upon pulling up, couldn’t pull into the parking lot because two police cars blocked the entrance. After 10 minutes of waiting, we finally parked. We later learned that it was an assault and battery dispute with someone staying there. We Got our card key for the room only to realize it doesn’t work. We got a new set of cards to try, still doesn’t work. Had to relocate to a new room. But this room had smaller beds and water dripping in front of the doorway. Relocated back to our original room once the worker fixed the door lock issue. Room was nice. Only problem was the smell of vomit on the floor near the refrigerator.
Pros: nice room. Modern furniture
Cons: unfriendly staff. Shady part of town.

Drove down to San Diego to visit my husband who is currently stationed here & found this cute little inn. Newly remodeled & everything from the bed, to the floors, all the way in the bathroom ! The guy at the front desk was super nice & friendly. The location is close to a mall & surrounded by a few restaurants. For a short stay for sea world, visiting family or whatever, I would recommend this place a million times over ! & I would stay here again, maybe every time I come to this part of San Diego. For tall people the place is a little tight, the room is a little small, but for what you pay for this hotel it is really worth the price & then some.

Friendly staff. Shady part of Chula Vista. Found cigarette burns on bed cover, hair on blanket, and a funky mold and odor inside the fridge. Would never stay here again, but bc it was only 6 miles away from the event I had to go to, it made due for a night though expedia sold it as much nicer than the motel 6 style that it really is. Also, bc the rooms are so close when ppl open the doors next door u have a heart attack thinking that a killer is trying to break into ur room. Like I said, shady part of the city! Overall, one star is for the staff and one is for the tv channels available.

Cheapest hotel I could find in the Chula Vista area at the last minute and was very pleased.
Pluses:
Lowest priced in area, although certainly not cheap.
Very friendly and professional staff
Room was extremely clean
Recently remodeled and it shows

Parking is tough with a large vehicle, I had a 12′ moving truck but managed
Some may find the neighborhood sketchy but I found it interesting and not bland at all like you get in upscale areas. There is an abandoned hotel right next door that looks like it has been vacant for 40 years. Rodeway should buy that and knock it down, and expand this hotel.

Stayed here a little bit after they opened. Very clean rooms, was easy to get a room last-​minute. Nothing fancy, but overall a very good experience.
