History
Established in 1920.
Cincinnati Opera presents a thrilling roster of world-class artists and conductors, stunning sets and costumes, and the spectacular Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.
The company originally performed in an open-air pavilion at the Cincinnati Zoo. During those years, a number of now-famous opera singers frequented the stage: Plácido Domingo, Norman Treigle, Beverly Sills, Sherrill Milnes, Montserrat Caballé, James Morris, and Barbara Daniels, to name a few.
Today, the company performs in two venues: the grand and historic Music Hall and the intimate Corbett Theater at the new School for Creative and Performing Arts. Cincinnati Opera is hailed as the city’s «prime summer arts festival» attracting a passionate regional audience as well as opera tourists from throughout the U.S., Canada, and beyond.
