This has been on my to-do list for awhile and definitely worth the visit! You MUST go early to avoid the crowd, or be expecting a wait. This diner is a cute old traditional look with the classic breakfast treats. Definitely a tight space — but welcome to Hyde Park. Great menu of a variety of choices. Delicious Mimosas and coffee. We are looking forward to going back!

The Echo is one of my favorite breakfast spots right now. They have decent coffee and free refills which is nice, and the food is cheap and awesome. It can be extremely busy on the weekends, so get there early. Typically we sit at the bar which I love. The service has always been great and all the waitresses are friendly. My favorites are the Belgian bird and the breakfast burrito. The Belgian bird is basically a fried chicken and waffles sandwich with a fried egg on it, It’s crazy good. The breakfast burrito is pretty basic. Eggs, cheese, sausage, and a side of salsa. Pretty simple but very delicious. The biscuits and gravy is also pretty solid. Definitely Check out this great Hyde park diner.

A little overpriced for what it is but it makes up for it in old world charm. Coffee to go, great for a hangover, a must in the square.

Echo is my favorite breakfast spot in Cincinnati. Awesome diner feel. The Hot Mess is incredible. Glier’s German Greats and The Lumberjack are also awesome. They also serve some great Irish Coffee drinks and mimosas! They also have a huge lunch menu. I loved the grilled cheese for Lent Fridays. :)

Perfect! Service is always amazing and the simple diner food is far above the standard! Echo Benedict is a stand out and each time it taste better than the last. On the weekends expect to wait, but it’s worth it!

Me and a coworker decided to try this place for the first time last week and it did not disappoint; aside from the line out the door waiting to be seated. Even though the line moved at a decent pace, there was no definitive way to check in; you kind of stood at the end and waited for someone to come take your name. A person ahead of us was seated without the entire party present. I like that you can exercise the option of sitting at the bar or at a table. We chose table so we could have more privacy but the tables were so close together that it was difficult to move through them. That and the line were the only things preventing Echo from receiving a five star review. I ordered the Spinach Florentine Eggs Benedict and my friend ordered French Toast and eggs. The food was delicious. I looked around at other orders and the plated dishes I saw all looked very appetizing. The amazing hot chocolate comes with home-made whipped cream! I would definitely return and sit at the bar, hoping it helps avoid the long wait.

Absolute best place to go for breakfast in Cincinnati. Everything on the menu is delicious! Long lines on the weekend but they go by pretty fast. Really cool diner atmosphere. Incredibly friendly staff. Highly highly recommend.

This has quickly become my favorite place for breakfast and brunch. It’s a classic diner style place with the bar and little tables. The food is always on point. I have never tried anything that I haven’t like. For some reason their hot chocolate is out of this world. There is a ton of options in the menu, from your regular omelettes, to the hot mess(you will definitely have to get one!). My favorite are the classic egg Benedict, their hollandaise sauce is amazing! It’s always super busy, but in my experience you never have to wait longer than 15 minutes in line.

What a great experience! My wife and I decided to get away for a couple days and we’ve really enjoyed Cincinnati in the past, so we headed back for some R&R. We scoured Unilocal as is our custom to find a place to grab a late breakfast on our way out of town and came across The Echo. We walked in and it was old school diner, which I love. We were warmly greater by what turned out to be one of the bussers who told us we could sit wherever we wanted. After finding a cozy booth, ordering our coffee and looking over the menu our server, Allie came over and offered to help us out with our order. When she discovered that neither one of us had ever tried goetta, she exclaimed with a big grin, «I’ll be right back!» She came back a couple minutes later with a generous sample of goetta for us to try. Super nice touch! The food came out quickly, was super tasty and hot. My wife ordered Bonnie’s Bounty and I had the Steph’s Sampler with the goetta. After ordering, Allie introduced us to Bonnie, who’s been working at The Echo for 43 years! Very cool! The service was amazing, the food delicious and the experience was super fun. We’ll be back next time we’re in Cincy.

I’ve been to The Echo a few times and it’s as good as most greasy spoons can get, fast service with good wholesome food. I love their pancakes which are dense and filling as well as the homemade whipped cream which tops them upon request. One big selling point is this place has cocktails, so if you want a mimosa with your food, you can get it. I’m giving this place 3 stars because the last time I went there was a serious gnat problem which made me a little concerned for the cleanliness since it was the middle of Winter. Overall though, it’s a decent hangover cure breakfast.

I love eating breakfast. I feel like I am a diner connoisseur and truth be told, I’m kinda picky when it comes to my breakfast. I moved to Cincy over the summer and only recently have I found my new breakfast home here at the Echo. First of all, welcome to Cincinnati, it’s packed at breakfast time. You will be waiting. But, that’s how it goes here so relax and get there before you are starving. While you will be standing in line, I like how the line is organized by the hostess. It’s pretty small in there and the hostess keeps things moving! The food is so so so so good. I have finally found a place that can make me perfect biscuits and gravy. I’ve been surviving since June without B&G and I’m thrilled to have found a good spot. I also had chicken and waffles which were excellent. Someone ordered pancakes and those were great too. I don’t want to go to another diner now that I have found the Echo. The staff at this restaurant are great. From our waitress to the busser they were all so very kind. They definitely make you feel like they are really happy to have you. The prices are good too, which is part of what makes or breaks a good diner. If you are looking for a great place to get tasty breakfast this is your spot, but again, go before you are starving so you don’t die waiting in line.(We got there about 9:30am on a Sunday and waited around 20 minutes. By the time we were seated the line was out the door). Oh! I almost forgot! They have booze. It’s a diner with booze. Yaaassssssss.

I don’t think I’ve been subtle about my love for goetta. Crispy, savory, happy time goetta. Do you know where I had my first goetta experience? The Echo. Yes, this little old timey diner tucked into the side of Hyde Park square was where I had my first divine experience with the ultimate breakfast(tbh anytime) meat. I had my first little slice of heaven, and from there on out it was love. As a child I always ordered scrambled eggs, home fries, and goetta, but when I hit high school I started with mainstay: an oktoberfest omelet, homefries on the side and rye toast. To this day I order the same exact thing, and I don’t know if that completely invalidates my review, but I think it just speaks true to how damn good the Echo is. Go to Echo, drink some coffee, and enjoy the same breakfast I’ve enjoyed for over 10 years. And be happy, because you’re eating goetta man.

Classic Tv style diner. Looks just like your typical old diner but I mean that in a great way. The food is just what you need to fill any appetite. I love a place with geotta on the menu! It should be a 5 star review but they do not have the space for the weekend crowd. Overall it is still a great choice for brunch!

My boyfriend and I stopped in for brunch and had a terrible experience. Firstly, we received our food(pancakes and French toast) and it seriously tasted like chemicals. Now I’m not one to usually complain, but I physically couldn’t get myself to eat it, it was that bad. After I told the waitress, two of the managers/owners came over to the table to tell me, the customer, that I was wrong and that the food tasted fine. They brought out new plates of food and told me they cleaned the grill, but the food only tasted SLIGHTLY better. And to top it all off, I’ve never seen so many neck tattoos on women in my life. I won’t be back again and will go back to just eating Pillsbury cinnamon rolls from now on. Wow, what a mistake. Someone could have thrown the food on the floor, stomped on it, and it would have tasted better.

This was our 2nd time here and the 2nd time we had a server named Allie who was exceptionally personable and considerate. The service is timely and the staff is nice. The food is very filling and offers great choices. Highly recommend. The cashier could be a little more personable though…

This is a come as you are DINER with good food. I love the easy vibe on a Sunday morning. My food tasted fresh, including the side of fruit. The service was very good. Only con: They have tables jammed everywhere here with no waiting area in the front. If you view this as part of this legend’s charm, you’re in for an interesting experience.

For what they say they serve, it’s terrific! The soups are all homemade there, with the exception of Friday’s tomato soup, which is Campbell’s!The sandwiches are great and fresh ingredients all! Where else can you get a Stella or a mimosa at 7:00am? And no place is consistently on Goetta(for foreigners it’s pork, oats, onions, herbs and spices) cut in a nice slab and fried perfectly! Shakes are real, no malt base, and big! So… belly up to the counter early to 3:00pm, 7 days a week! Lines on weekends but always space during the week!

I really enjoyed my meal at The Echo. I feel like it’s a nice and friendly establishment with great customer service. The service is speedy and it is apparent everyone on the team is working together. The main reason I am only able to provide three stars is due to food issues. Unfortunately, our omelets were quite bland. They also lacked toppings. The Greek omelet was to include banana peppers, spinach, olives, onion, and feta. There was no cheese in it when it arrived and I had to ask for it. There was also very few toppings and mainly egg. I’ll be back to give it another try though because the customer service was great!

A very cute and lovely breakfast spot right outside of Cincinnati. The diner is found on a relatively quiet small town street and the atmosphere is just what you would hope for. When you walk in you are greeted with a friendly face. I sat at the bar where I had quick attentive service. My coffee was constantly refilled but not in an annoying way. The food was good as well. It is hard to compare eggs, but their specialities such their pancake cakes(so so good) and their Gliers Goetta(super interesting if you have not tried) were good and filling. You can tell this establishment and the staff are much loved and I would recommend stopping in for a quick breakfast bite if you have the chance.

The Echo is a staple of Hyde Park square. Your typical local diner feel with great diner food and friendly service. Great place to meet a friend on a weekend morning or afternoon, whenever I manage to roll out of bed. I love their Glier’s German Greats for breakfast. The potato cakes are so yummy, perfectly crispy on the outside. The Goetta could be cooked a little crispier but other than that, this breakfast always hits the spot. They keep your coffee hot and don’t make you feel rushed after your meal. The neighborhood wouldn’t be the same without this place!

Environment is as if you have stepped back in time – like a scene straight out of a movie. Think 70s diner tucked away in classic Hyde Park. A friend recommended I try the ‘hot mess’ the first time I’ve been there, and every time I return, it is hard not to gravitate towards the literal hot mess: hot fries, bacon, sausage and scrambled eggs smothered in country gravy. Yumm. It’s a hot mess as ever if I’ve seen one, and I’d recommend it for anyone. $ 10, and I can never even finish it. If you’re looking for a ‘normal’ lean/fit breakfast – they have that too. In fact, most meals run $ 10 or less, and it’s enough food to leave you satisfied. They’re hot chocolate is delicious… if you’re looking for a not so heavy breakfast, I’d even recommend this restaurant to enjoy a hot drink and cinnamon bun. If you’re looking for a place to watch people while soaking in the great environment, I’d say check out Echo!

Let me start off my first saying that if you love local café’s you should head to this wonderfully located, quaint local diner. This place is probably the highest rated eateries that I have encountered so far. As usual, I’ll begin with the décor upon entering the establishment, the service, and finally the food. Upon entering Echo you get the down-home feel with the 60 – 70’ish theme. The diner is spacious although choppy. This is ok because it works for the establishment. It was well ventilated, smells like your grandmother’s kitchen, just amazing environment altogether. The waitress was top-notch! She greeted us within 3 minutes of seating with water. She asked for our drink preference and came back immediately, keep in mind it was a bit busy so that was a plus. She was like a sweet Aunt making sure your had all of the things necessary to make your stay pleasant, for that I’m thankful. The food was AMAZING. We are here during breakfast, I provided pictures to buttress that statement, lol. I would recommend you order«The Steph» with the cinnamon pancake(I forgot the name) it will cost your an extra $ 2.50 but it’s worth it. The food was hearty, meaning for the price you paid there was plenty of delicious food! The most rewarding part of my experience was that he food was hot and fresh with hot syrup. Please give this place a visit, I left a $ 10 tip because it was just fantastic!

I live across the street and have come here for both breakfast(early) and for brunch(noonish). The food is consistently good every time I’ve gone. The ‘healthy’ food is good, runners and other types are consistently eating here. They excel at hangover food, I’ve had the hot mess and others with gravy and they are to die for. Side note: you can drink here, but brunch will quickly escalate in price. Bloodies have a lot of horseradish. If you come around noon on a weekend you will wait a while. Put your name in with the host and she lines the groups up in order against the wall. There is a counter for smaller groups. When I’ve been there early in the morning there usually isn’t a wait and obviously the food is faster and servers are less rushed. I would recommend this place for anytime you’re feeling like some good, diner breakfast food.

A favorite brunch spot, though typically jam packed on the weekends. Great menu, traditional diner feel in the midst of Hyde Park square. Some of the best menu items, in my opinion, are the Hot Mess & Glier’s German Greats. This time I tried the Traditional Eggs Benedict & it was divine!

I have had this place in mind for a while & today was the day. While everywhere else had an hour wait they said 20 mins on the phone & sat us in 10. FOODWASSOOODELICIOUS that my 2.5 year old ate all of her scrambled eggs with cheese & sausage & ½ a pancake by herself!!! While i truly enjoyed my cornbeef hash with the perfect sunny side up eggs & overate by sharing their Red White & Blue croissant french toast with my friend. This last was the bread pudding version of french toast. Perfect for sharing but might be too dense for one person. The attention to us & the baby was delightful. Will definitely come back!

The charm, appearance, and friendliness of the Echo seem perhaps unchanged since the mid-20th century. It is a wonderfully preserved American relic from another era. Unfortunately, the Echo’s diner food isn’t very memorable. I’ve visited about three times over the years. First visit was about seven years ago: Had some kind of turkey-and-dressing lunch plate that seemed warmed-over and assembled with too many processed elements. That was mediocre enough to keep me away for the next several years.(How do I remember this? Well, this review was started and shelved several years back.) The second time was a simple reuben sandwich a couple of years back: That wasn’t bad at all, but nothing worth writing home about, either. Third was a basic eggs-bacon-and-hasbrowns breakfast – again, competently executed and generous in portion, but it’s not anything that the average schmoe(e.g., me) couldn’t put together at home for a quarter of the cost. The Echo certainly isn’t bad. But it sure doesn’t do anything to raise the bar food-wise: Very few fresh ingredients and very little creativity evident here, and this is equally reminiscent of the mid(to-late) 20th century. There are plenty of cafes and pubs in town and around the country that have similar menus but serve considerably better food. Also unfortunately, the prices are all too reminiscent of 2015. Honestly, the Echo seems 15 to 20 percent overpriced, almost certainly because of its Hyde Park Square location. Essentially, the Echo is OK, but overrated by its adherents, like much in and around Hyde Park. Get there before 8:30 on weekend mornings if you want to avoid the lines.

The Echo is a good diner with decent breakfast food. I’m not sure why people are giving it 5 stars… I think it’s good, but not outstanding. I normally get the omelettes. I really like their veggie omelette and I add feta and have it with egg whites(no extra charge for egg whites!). I get the home fries on the side, which are always good. Last time I was here I had the biscuit which was just ok… It was kind of hard, and not that great really. The best part about this place is that you can get in and out quickly. Yes, there’s almost always a line in the morning, but it moves fast(you only have to wait for about 10 minutes), and then you get your food really quickly as well. We like sitting at the bar just because it adds to the diner feel and you get really great service because the servers are right there to fill up your coffee cup. All-in-all, a very good diner with consistent, quick breakfast food. But their food isn’t anything I haven’t seen in a diner before.

My bff lives in Cincinnati, so you would think that I wouldn’t have to depend on Unilocal when I visit, wrong. I depend in Unilocal everywhere I go. When I found this place and mentioned it, she’d been there before and had a good experience. The parking: apparently you can park in the bank parking lot across the street during nonbank hours. I didn’t want to risk getting my car towed, so I found curbside parking along the same street as the Echo. My friend said that it was a casual place, so you seat yourself… Wrong! When we started walking to a table, we were graciously told that there was a shortwait list. There was a hostess, apparently there wasn’t one when my friend had been here. The hostess was very nice and I explained what my friend had told me and she made conversation, asking where we were from, etc. very pleasant. This place is popular, and there really isn’t a waiting area, so people are scrunched together waiting on tables, near the front door area. That’s not really a fault of the Echo though, so I won’t mark them down for that. Plus, we must’ve arrived at a good time, because we only waited about 10 minutes for a table. We sat in the side part of the restaurant, near the bathrooms. The service was quick and the food arrived quick too. While I made conversation with the sweet hostess, she mentioned Goetta, and she brought us over a sample as soon as we sat down. I wasn’t fond of it, but it was nice to be able to try the local concoction. I ordered a salad and was satisfied, as were all of the others in my party who ordered breakfast items. I won’t elaborate on our food, there are enough photos posted. As we were leaving there were massive amounts of people waiting to be seated, that’s why I think that we arrived at a good time, and only had to wait about ten minutes.

There is a small part of me that wants to give the Echo a bad review… Because I don’t want it to get more crowded. You are guaranteed a great meal every time. The people who work there have been there forever and work like a well oiled machine. The Echo can satisfy any breakfast craving you have from healthy to hearty. It gets really crowded around 10am but it’s worth the wait.

The Echo is foolproof choice when you’re looking for a simple breakfast. Their menu is actually pretty extensive and they have a small seasonal menu which is a nice addition. Even when it’s crowded, the seat-yourself atmosphere moves quickly. I typically get some kind of egg sandwich, but opted for something different this past weekend. Instead, I went with the Eggs Benedict, which I was a little nervous about trying… but so happy I did! There are three different ways you can order it, one of which includes adding goetta. Check. I was pleasantly surprised, and it definitely gave me faith in trying things outside of the standards eggs and bacon breakfast!

In the Hyde Park/Mt. Lookout area, there are two main options for breakfast… either Echo or Annabel’s. I’ve been to Annabel’s three times but only eaten there once. The reason is b/c it’s so small that you have to get lucky to get a table, and they don’t have anywhere to wait inside so you’re stuck sitting on the curb outside the restaurant while you wait for people to finish their free-range chicken and egg white omelet with gluten free toast and root veggie side salad. My point with that ridiculous sentence is that Annabel’s is a little too fancy for me when it comes to breakfast. If I’m going out to a restaurant at 11am on a Saturday morning, it means I’m probably hungover. And if I’m hungover, I don’t want to put on my hipster-iest hipster pants and point my pinkie to the sky while ordering a $ 15 dollar croissant. Thankfully, we have Echo… which is really Hyde Park’s answer to my downtown favorite — Tucker’s. Echo is plane Jane and I couldn’t be happier about it. Scrambled eggs, greasy bacon, and syrupy waffles… check! Go here when you want a quick breakfast from friendly-enough servers in a simple restaurant with a comfortable atmosphere. And, to be fair, that’s my preference for weekend hangover curing breakfast. One final note, the line might look long when you arrive, but it moves quickly because Echo is much larger than it looks from the outside and the staff hustles like street performers to ensure that empty tables are cleaned and re-sat in a timely manner. Just go. You won’t be wowed, but you definitely won’t be disappointed either.
