cheap Chinese food. its great!

Tried their MP location and thought it was good. So I came here for second try. Food was delicious same as MP. I had pork zucchini meat pie and pumpkin fried dumplings. Both were really juicy. Xiaolungbao was a little dry for my taste. Overall another good experience. Will come back again.

this was michelles pancake before and i think i liked the old one better…
we wanted the lamb pies but they were out of it at like 5:30 PM
so we went with pork and fennel. i thought they would use the fennel bulb but it seemed like they only used the fronds, which overpowered the taste of the pies in an unpleasing manner.
we also got the beef pancake? which was like a meat version of a green onion pancake but this wasn’t really that good
we also got the cucumber and potato cold dishes, which were average
they gave us a corn meal soup which was really bland and had no flavor
the servers were nice
minimum $ 25 for credit card orders!

My mom loves this place because she says the food is very authentic and everything is made to order from scratch. I don’t really see anything special. The food was good but nothing really spectacular. The inside of the bun was juicy and the meat was flavorful. Oh and also free appetizer if you check in on Unilocal

I REALLY wanted to like this place because the Monterey Park location is delicious and spot on.
Came on a tuesday night and the place was empty except for this one other couple. We ordered XLB (pork juicy dumplings), pork and onion meat pie (they were out of lamb), and Beef wrap.
The XLBs were decent, but the skin was overly thick.
The pork and onion meat pie was okay, but the crust wasn’t crunchy at all. It was mainly soggy from the oil being absorbed into the skin, which is a huge FAIL in my book. Heat up your pan a little hotter before you fry ‘em! And the beef wrap, what can I say about this one? It was flavorless and the wrap was soggy. Usually the flavor comes from the hoisin sauce slathered inside, but they must have run out that day …
The service was good… too bad the food wasn’t. Feel like I wasted some precious calories here.

So I went to this spot twice and both my visits were enjoyable.
It’s located on gale Ave close to the freeway exit which is easy to spot on. The restaurant itself is clean and outdoor tables are available.
Food: I tried their house meat pies and they are not famous for no reasons, the pork meat pies with veggies inside were delicious, juicy and fresh as they make the pies from scratch once they received the order. I also had the xiao long bao (juicy pork dumplings) and the fried pork dumplings with eggplants, the fried dumplings were bomb which I consider a must-​try item. Dessert wise I and my friend ordered the pancakes with some kind of red bean stuffing. The food they provide might not be the most tasty, but for sure you can taste the freshness. I felt full but not stuffed as they really make the food without a lot of oil, also the skins of the food are so thin so the meal retained enjoyable.
Price: Absolutely affordable, we ordered 5 – 6 items plus 4 sodas and they were sitting all around the table, the price was reasonable, we paid around $ 20ish each, not to mention most people eat half of the portion me and my friend usually have.
Service: The staffs are helpful especially the manager/​supervisor/​boss (I have no idea) Wilson, he helped us out figuring what items to get, he has great attitudes and I can see the passion of him. The services were fast and helpful overall.

I went here for the Xiao Long Bao and they were ok. The lamb noodle soup was good. The broth had a kick but not the spicy kind that stays in your mouth #50 is good stuff.

All of sudden wanna eat Chinese dumpling & pies so came to this restaurant with my hubby. We went there during lunch hour but there has no customers. We has been eating there for about one hour and no one came. Their green onion pork pie is good! I can taste the juicy pork with handmade dumpling skin. Their beef roll is good too but don’t like their shanghai Wenton soup. U can see they handmade the dumpling skin from the window. Will come again if crave for Chinese pie next time but wine order Wenton soup tho.

We came to try the XLB but actually the best items we had were the pumpkin/​pork/​shrimp dumplings (fried of course) and the beef meat pie. Unfortunately they were out of lamb but that just means we have an excuse to go back soon as we really want to give that a try.
Also the gentleman who brought our food was super nice and friendly (and understanding of our noobishness), I hope the word gets out about this place. It’s awesome to see your food being made to order (they did warn us that it would take a little while because of that but totally worth the wait!).

I love these pancakes and pies. This place has one of the best pie in los Angeles, and now they open one in city of industry where I close by.
You must order their pork soup dumpling and pumpkin with pork and shrimp fried dumpling… also homeland meat cakes. They are amazing. …

Meh. Came here cuz I’ve been craving for soup dumplings and didn’t want to drive all the way to din tai fung. Food was not good and my boyfriend and I were served by teens. We ordered XLB and the skin was too thick and not enough soup in the dumplings. My boyfriend ordered the zha jiang mien? (the dry noodle) and the sauce tasted like straight up hoison sauce. I ordered the wonton soup and have had better. Also, the table next to us said they saw fungus in their meat pie. Look at your food before eating!
I won’t be coming back.

I love these buns! Juicy, savory, and fresh. Everything I ate was certainly above the average taste. This place has the one of the best meat pies (Xian bien), dumplings, and soup dumplings (Xiao Long Bao). Upon entrance and while you’re seated, you can see someone making the dough from scratch throughout the entire day. If you’re obsessed with buns, you will LOVE this place. If you’re a fan of eating lamb meat, you’re in heaven.
Pretty much everything I ate had three delicious elements. A savory soup/​juice, perfect and appropriate bun texture, and soft ground meat and vegetable combo. Really can’t go wrong with the lamb meat pie, beef meat pie, pork dumplings, and pork soup dumpling.
Service is relatively average-​above average. The food arrived in a timely manner. The waiter/​host is very attentive when you want more soy sauce with ginger, water, tea, and such. Moderately friendly to customers.
It’s a festivity with a whole lot of bun! :D

I wanted to try this place for awhile and I finally got a chance. I tried the pork soup dumpling, beef and green onion pancake and the lamb pie. The food was good but nothing stood out. The dumpling and pie was juicy so be careful when biting into one. The beef pancake seemed to be the best item out of all of them. The pie and dumpling had a little too much bread for my preference. Service was slow probably because they make the pies fresh. I would give this place another try.

Their outside sign still says Tai Fung Pancake, but the menus in the restaurant say Beijing Pie House. I use to come here when it was Michelle Pancake a while back.
Today was my second time here at Beijing Pie House in a week. I love their super juicy beef pie (4 to an order), their pumpkin-​pork-​shrimp dumpling (10 to an order) and pork-​leek buns (6 to an order), but not a fan of their wonton soup which had an unusual flavor in its broth. The onion pancakes, pork-​leek pancakes, radish pie, XLB and beef roll were good, but not stand-​out.
Credit card accepted with a minimum $ 25 bill.
I will be back (for their beef pies + pumpkin-​pork-​shrimp dumplings)!

Wow. How does this place not have more reviews or business yet?! This place is tucked into the corner of the 2^nd floor in a commercial area on Gale — it used to be the place that «Michelle’s Pancake House» was? Anyway, this Beijing Pie House was a better version of the one in Monterey Park, which is already pretty good in its own right.
For lunch my wife and I had… I’m kinda guessing prices based on memory:
–Fried shrimp and pork dumplings (10 for $ 6.99)
–Beef and green onion pancake (8 quarter pieces for $ 7.99)
–Lamb meat pie (4 pies for $ 8.99)
The wrapping on the dumplings were thick and delicious. Same with the pie! Both the pie and dumplings were so incredibly juicy. There also was a lot of filling in the lamb pies… I didn’t remember getting this fat of a pie on Monterey Park. The beef and green onion pancake was tasty — my wife liked it a lot, but I prefer the type they serve at Earthen instead of here.
Will definitely be back!

Our faves: pork & leek meat pies and pumpkin & pork potstickers. The location is probably the drawback of this place, especially when they don’t even have their correct names & signs on the outside; but the food is definitely good and I’ll definitely be returning. Preferably w/​more ppl so we can try more dishes.

Quite a fan of this place as I came with my bro yesterday. Lucky enough, there was barely any people too. We ordered beef rolls, pork and green onion pie, and fried dumplings.
THe worst one was the beef rolls which we will not be getting. Though there are some good things to it. They made their beef rolls to be soft instead of crunchy like other places (which threw me off). However, that also means that they made their own dough for the roll which is a +. They have onions, beef, and cilantros in it.
I was really impressed by the fried dumplings and pork and green onion pie. The fried dumplings had a nice skin to it. It wasn’t the best that I’ve had but it was up there. I really like it as it had the crisp fried to it (idk how to explain it). As you take a bite into it, the juices actually flow out too (big +).
As I didn’t know what Pie (in chinese) is suppose to be like, it was exceptional to me. It was a round shape pie where the inside is filled with the meat of what you got. They pan fried the dough and I was thinking how rough the pie would be but when you take a bite into it, it was actually really thin and it had a lot of flavors packed in the skin and the meat.
This place might become a regular as we were impressed with the food. Service isn’t great but I didn’t expect much. I guess you would even say it’s better what you would expect. haha

I’d give it a 3.25 Stars if I could.
1) it took over Tai Fung’s old location.
2) only takes CASH now
3) clean, efficient and friendly staff
4) food is overall tasty and well priced
I went on 3÷7÷14 about 2 weeks after the new owners took over the location. Some of the signage hadn’t been changed and they still printed the receipt on «Michelle’s Pancake» paper…2 restaurants ago
The staff still seems like they were getting up to speed on the menu. It’s worth going, but not near the top of your choices in the eSGV.

I’ve had the MP location bookmarked for at least a year, but just never got around to going there. Then recently when trying to go to Tai Fung Pancake with my sis we ended up here after realizing Beijing Pie House took over the location.
My sis really wanted xlb and I didn’t feel like ordering xlb with another dumpling type item, so no meat pies for us this time. The XLB filling was flavorful and the skin wasn’t too thick, it just lacked that soupy goodness for me. I mean there was some juices but nothing like what I’m usually expecting when I order xlb. These were satisfying enough for me and satiated the craving.
Beef noodle soup, this would have been better if it wasn’t served lukewarm, bordering cold. I hate soup that’s not piping hot, bring it boiling and I’ll be a happy camper! The noodles were way too soft for me as like noodles with more of a bite, al dente feel. I started to feel kind of grossed out from the cold soup and mushy noodles.
Service was good, our waiter was super nice and helpful… He definitely deserved the tip we gave him. Overall I’d come back to try the meat pies, but wish that they would add more items to their menu like stir fried rice cakes and other pan fried noodles. Sigh.

This place is a hidden gem. I don’t usually venture up to the second floor of Four Seasons Plaza, but this restaurant is worth that flight of stairs.
This is another branch of the well-​established Beijing Pie House located in Monterey Park. They just opened this location on top of JJ Café, and they’ve got their recipes down.
I tried several of their small dish appetizers, and the one I liked the most was the Cabbage Salad.
But really, if you’re going to order anything from this place, ORDER THE SHANGHAI SOUP DUMPLINGS. They come by many names: Xiao Long Bao, 小籠包, etc. I don’t care what you call it, order it when you come here.
I’ve had Xiao Long Bao everywhere– from the Din Tai Feng in Arcadia, to the Din Tai Feng in Taipei, and even Mama Lu’s in Alhambra. I know my Xiao Long Bao very well, and Beijing Pie House is on point. I’d say it’s better than any other Xiao Long Bao place in America I’ve tried.
Come here and try this place! It’s new so they’re a little unknown, but definitely worth it.
