History

Established in 1980.

Shephard’s Beach Resort was a small 2 story hotel with restaurant that evolved into Florida’s premier entertainment resort. It is a family owned business that was nurtured and grown by the Shephard family. The original building was just taken down to make way for a new six story tower with hip luxury rooms in 2013 and opened in February 2014. We had already completed a total renovation on our famous Tiki Deck and concert stage in 2012 and in the spring of 2014 completed the final step of the project by renovating our famous water front restaurant to create the new Ocean Flame interactive dining restaurant and Salt Tequila Bar and Tap Room. We continue to grow as a family owned and operated business.

Why Only 3 stars,
I really like this place, I almost every two weeks going over there with my wife. Usually on Sunday.
They have a private beach good food and great music.
We are really enjoy and having Fun.
But the 3 stars is because of the security guys.
I understand they need to deal with drunk people but they are very rude and aggressive to everyone.

Tom Terrific here with another honest restaurant review.
I stopped into Shephard’s Tiki Bar on Memorial day and had a $ 6.50 Miller Lite draft. no Bud Light on tap.
my server was EJ who did a competent job. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken sandwich with French fries for $ 9.00.
I wasn’t expecting much because these places on the water are known for their view, atmosphere and ambiance.
i was served in a timely manner and I was pleasantly surprised to find a large spicy chicken sandwich and a very generous portion of fries. I do not like natural cut fries so I was happy that they were the frozen kind which I prefer. EJ brought me all the cups of ice and cups of ice water I wanted. I drink water and chomp on ice when i’m outside in the heat drinking.
the sandwich was tasty and the fries were hot. I thought it was a good deal for $ 9 but I object to the $ 6.50 beer price.
I was disappointed in their 1pm Memorial Day entertainment — one guy playing guitar and singing songs I was tired of 20 years ago like Creedance Clearwater Revival (i’m 64). I was happier when they were playing Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Kelly Clarkson videos on the large screen at the stage from 11am to 1pm. at least this musician wasn’t playing at 120 decibels like at Mako’s.
I also found out everyone in the public stage area is allowed to use their beach and as long as you buy your drinks at the Tiki bar you can take them out there. you don’t have to be a hotel paying guest to use it.

We booked a vacation for our family (myself, hubby, and two step daughters aged 13 and 17) for our Spring Break Getaway. The reviews were decent, there is a private beach, and I thought the extra services like kayaking were included.
We chose a suite that had a kitchenette which was a great way for us to save time for breakfast and lunch, and to spend money on what really mattered to us. it was nicely stocked and we really liked it. Something good to note– there is only the normal tiny fridge you get in a regular hotel room. That made for some creative arranging in the fridge but we lucked out and got everything we needed into it. The room was spacious enough for us to be comfortable, there were two queen beds plus a pull out couch. Ours also had a balcony and it made for extra comfort. We were in the tower separate from the hotel so we had no noise issues. I could see how it might be if you were right by the night entertainment. Other bonus– shampoo and conditioner in a dispenser on the wall. Makes it a lot easier with four people not trying to hunt down those kinds of things.
When we arrived on Sunday I was worried with the amount of drunks running around in general, but the rest of the week was very calm and it was fine. Not just running around the hotel, but just in the general area of Clearwater Beach.
The hotel beach is very small but nice. we found a ton of beautiful shells and had a great time building a sand castle. I SWEAR that the extra stuff like kayaking was included since that was one of the reasons I chose the resort, but it was not. Lesson learned to read more carefully. The pool was very nice and full of great kids– our girls made friends while they were there and we had a great time unwinding in the evenings there. Bonus for the hot tub that we all enjoyed.
Overall we had a great stay, the staff was friendly and attentive when we had an issue with our toilet– responding within five minutes to our door. We could walk to the main beach and plenty of different food options. We would love to visit again sometime soon!

After a couple sleepless nights at Shepard’s I wanted to give this 2 stars, but overall this is a fun resort that’s pretty well run. The music and the crowd is non-stop which makes for a fun afternoon/evening at the pool. The problem is that the party doesn’t end until 2−3am…and if your room is on the pool side of the hotel you won’t sleep because it’s so loud.
The resort does a nice job of keeping the crowd out of the pool area so if you’re staying here and have a wristband you have your own space. Plus it’s free to venture into the clubs. It’s a lot of fun. But like I said, it doesn’t end. Make sure you book a room on the street side if you must go. We went for a wedding and the resort did a real nice job with the ceremony on the beach and the reception by the pool.
Overall we had fun but would not stay here again. Too many other options.

My husband visited Shepard to celebrate our 10^th anniversary. The hotel was very nice with lots of amenities, the pool side bar make strong drink at a reasonable price, the Rooms are nice, and beds are very comfy. But it’s hard to rest and relax with live music blaring pool side till after midnight every night ! what’s the point of having a night club and a live band pool side. The outdoor live music needs to stop at 11 so people that want to sleep can.

Great location. Decent food. The drinks were okay. I ordered a run runner with a double shot however I didn’t taste much alcohol; tasted juiced down. Disappointed that they allow smoking… it was a real distraction as initiated other people complaining about it also. I would come back here again however it definitely deters me from spending more money than I’d like to on items to enjoy the environment.

This review is strictly for the club portion of the resort. $ 5 cover charge for a Friday night. We came around 10:30 pm and it was just getting busy. Even when we left, it wasn’t overly crowded. I did hear one of the bar tenders say Saturday’s are more busy.
Music-It was a live band and they sang all types of cover songs. The girls were awesome and kept the crowd going. A+
Drinks-We ordered beers and shots throughout the night. I ordered one round of shots for 3 of us and 2 beers for a little over $ 20. That is freaking CHEAP to me. And the shots were decent sizes. A
Even if you don’t club, this is a nice place to hear live music, get cheap drinks and still walk on the beach.
I’m not sure why they give trouble to some and not others for dress code? It could also depend on what type of event they are hosting or what night it is??? We were not overly dressed but there were others there that came super casual as in tank tops, sandals and jeans so not sure about dress code.

FALSE DRESS CODE.
After driving an hour with 3 other friends, JAMES at the door rudely mentioned to me that I couldn’t get in even though what I was wearing was clearly more appropriate than what most of the other people were wearing. JAMES and the Manager MIKE proceeded to shoe us away like animals and would not even work with us to come up with a solution. Not to mention that we received NO REFUND. Nonetheless, did not ruin my night but I wanted to warn people that they would likely encounter this.

We got free tickets to the W&W show at the tiki bar this past Sunday. Our expectation were pretty low being we’ve never been to a party in Clearwater but we were pleasantly surprised. While there were tons of people there was still plenty of room to move around and places to sit and just chill. Yes people were wilding out but majority were respectful and friendly. Drinks were cheap (at least to us Miamians) $ 5 for beers and $ 7 for cocktails. The dj booth is elevated on a deck over the water which allows for some amazing views. All in all it was a good time!

We went Sunday to the club to see a DJ we had tickets for. First, we almost didn’t get in because dress code was douche (beach shorts for guys). The guy with us was wearing nice white jeans and dress shoes and we had to argue with the manager to be let in. Nowhere while buying tickets did it say that. Once in, you were greeted by 5 – 6 police officers standing there. Why? Because it attracts only the extreme obscene douche crowd. That many police officers tells you something about the place. The DJ before the main act barely played the same music as the main act, unheard of in the DJ world. They don’t know what they’re doing there. It was crowded with drunk douchebags, stupid dress code, lots of police everywhere. No thank you!

I was very nervous about booking this hotel because of the less than stellar Unilocal reviews– but being so close to New Years and right after Christmas– all the good rated beach hotels in Clearwater and St. Pete were priced at over $ 170 plus resort fees ($ 200+\night). We were celebrating our Anniversary but knew that we wanted to have a nice dinner and drinks too– so we had a budget. We snagged Shepards for $ 109 plus $ 30 in resort fees.
When we got here, our car was valet parked, despite the hotel being booked solid we didn’t have more than a 5 minute wait to get checked in. The front desk was very friendly and efficient.
Our hotel was on the 5^th floor overlooking the live music stage, the pool, and the beach. What a gorgeous view! Clearly we didn’t have to leave the resort to have a fun night!
The one negative about the room was there was a dirty cleaning rag on the AC unit. We tossed it out into the hallway and it was removed quickly.
Other than that, the room was modern, with a mini fridge, microwave, a high top bar, outside seats on the balcony, a large tiled shower, and flat screened TV.
The live music plays until 3 AM– we loved it– but were worried we wouldn’t be able to sleep at midnight. But the moment we closed the sliding glass door, the sound was muffled more that sufficiently for us to sleep.
The bed was better than decent, it was clean and with 2 drinks in me I slept like the dead until 9 AM. The room darkening curtains did their job because when we woke up, the sunlight came streaming in.
We had an awesome dinner at Shepards interactive dining buffet (read that review there) and drinks at the bar while watching the games. The drinks were cheap– $ 7 average each for my Miami Vice (at the pool) and Paloma (at Salt). The live music was top notch– all of our favorite classics while we hung out in the hot tub.
Now we are off to take a morning walk on the nearly empty beach. For my money– it was fantastic and we will definitely be back!

There was only one choice when we got here, which was to valet our car. Which cost 10 $. That’s just outrageous. That better be with tip included and a vacuum to my car lol.
Walking in the view is great right on the water!
We waited like 10 min for our server which wasn’t really a big deal. We orders s the rum bucket which was good. Then we orderd a buffalo chicken sandwich. Which was average priced at 9 $. It was good as well .
The music was a tad loud for not having an event, but nothing major.
This place is good, not something I’d make a drive for. But if I’m in the area id possibly come back.

They have great nightlife here compared to all the hotels in the area. On a Thursday night they had an outside stage with live music of mostly country and right near beach access with a bar and deck. They also have a proper nightclub that plays hip-hop and an electronic music. Both are setup fairly nicely.

Beach resort is a far stretch since it doesn’t really have a nice beach access but Shepards Beach resort should not be confused with a quiet, relaxing beach spa vacation. Instead this is where you go if are looking for a 21 & up Florida spring break party, any time of year. Children are allowed at the resort but after a certain time, they are not allowed outside by the water (where the party is). And honestly… just don’t bring the kids here.
Shepards is a known hot spot for locals and tourists alike that are looking for a tropical party with a tropical drink in a tropical location. With live music on the water or dancing all night in the Wave night club, this is the resort you stay at when you want to be in the middle of the party all weekend long.
The buffett is good but all food and drinks here are high priced to pay for the view and smell of the fresh sea air.

We visited this past week. We have been to Shephards many times before but this is our first visit since the brand new renovated rooms were built. They are fantastic!
We arrived in Clearwater Beach at about 11am and decided to see if we might be able to check in early. We were able to get in without any trouble. The new rooms are updated with stone counters in the bathroom and vanity in the bedroom and a nice and big stone shower with half door, very modern! The room had two queen beds which were SO soft and comfortable. I’m pretty particular about my bed as I have trouble sleeping sometimes. The bed was heavenly. I did not have any trouble sleeping the entire week we were there! The balcony was a nice size for just the two of us and was nice to take a break up there if we were getting too much sun. We had a view of the pool and could see the ocean beyond the pool.
We spent most of our days by the pool/beach area. The drinks were great and the staff were great as well! The waitresses and bartenders were so friendly and were quick with food and drink orders. Mario, who was supervising the pool and handing out towels was great! He was funny and make a few jokes every time I would come to swap out my towel for a fresh one.
Shephard’s also has a band in the afternoon/evening and a DJ spinning for late night. This is something that sets them apart from the other hotels on the beach. We felt like we didn’t have to leave to be entertained. The bands were great! Most had very high energy and all had a large array of different styles of music that was being played.
We had an absolute blast and cant wait to return next year!

A couple of my friends and I were just in Clearwater for a girls trip. One of the girls has a family friend that owns a condo out there, and we got to stay there for free. However, we decided we wanted to stay at one of the hotels right by the beach for at least one night so we didn’t have to worry about drinking and driving.
We heard that Shepard’s has a big all-day outdoor party on Sundays called R3HAB which we wanted to check out, so we decided to stay here for convenience. The price of the hotel was reasonable– around $ 200 on a Sunday. The hotel offers free parking and is actually very nice inside. The room itself was also very nice. We had a little balcony overlooking the pool area. The bathroom shower was huge and nice. We could hear the pounding music from the outdoor party from our room which was fine with us, but I definitely wouldn’t recommend this hotel for families or couples that just want to relax– at least not on Sundays. It’s more of a party hotel.
We went down to the pool area which is nice with a lot of seating. I’ll attach a pic. The pool area was pretty dead because most people were at the party which is right behind the pool. There is a gate that leads right there. We decided to eat lunch at the pool area before heading to r3hab. Everyone liked their food. After eating we went to rehab. There was a huge stage with go go dancers and a dj. Lots of drunk, half naked people dancing around which made for some good people watching. We stayed for a bit then went back to shower and get ready in our room.
We left the hotel for dinner then came back to R3HAB. The party was still going. Drinks are reasonably priced for a hotel. We had a fun night.
I likely wouldn’t stay here if I came with the husband, but it was great for a girls trip.

When we wanted to get our spring break on, this was the place. Where else could we see massive quantities of beer imbibed via a funnel held all the way up on the root? I stuck to my favorite hard liquor to ensure I wouldn’t be full before I was completely wasted. Others, stuck to beer. To each, their own.
The music was jumping, the crowd was staggering, we had a designated driver, and life was good!
