History

Established in 1986.

The North Shore Resort opened in 1965 and completed its seven-​story tower in 1973; it was acquired by Hagadone Hospitality in June 1983 in a takeover of Western Frontiers, Inc. The North Shore closed on New Year’s Day in 1986 for several months and reopened in the spring with a new name: «The Coeur d’Alene: A Resort on the Lake.» The new 18-​story addition, known as the Lake Tower, was built by Duane Hagadone and Jerry Jaeger and opened in 1986. Designed by architect R.G. Nelson, the hotel features a 0.75-mile (1.2 km) floating boardwalk.

The golf course was originally the site of the Rutledge sawmill, which operated from 1916 until October 1987. The Hagadone Corporation bought the property from Potlatch Corporation in March 1988 via a three-​way land swap, and its buildings were allowed to be burned in June; local fire departments used it as a training exercise.

The Coeur d’Alene Resort is surrounded by natural beauty. Take an amazing walk around the dock path that goes deep into the lake is a fun and refreshing experience. As you enter the hotel, you are greeted by a modern sleek interior. The conference rooms are also average and clean.
Granted, we did go for the most affordable options, yet the interior rooms could use some updating. The transition between the tile and carpet within the room was coming apart. The furniture looked like it came from a the cabin of my grandparents in the 90s. We started out on a corner room, but had issues sleeping because you could hear cars driving up the parking garage all night. We moved to an interior room which overlooked the indoor pool, and we had the pleasure of smelling chlorine for the remainder of the trip.
In summary, you will always be surrounded by unique natural beauty on your visit. If you are trying to save money, you may want to go for another lodging option in town. Some of the rooms with lake views look pretty amazing though. It was an ok experience that could have been improved by some remodeling of the interior rooms.

The location of this place is unbeatable, staff was nice. There are two places to eat on site… One is a five star fancy spot called Beverly’s, the other is dockside which had decent food but nothing too special. They also have a Starbucks, a place called whispers (lounge/​bar), and a few gift shops. There’s a tunnel connecting the resort to a mini mall that connects to the whole downtown area. Tons of places to eat and drink out there. (I highly reccomend Crafted for beers!)
The rooms were nice (esp the shower) but could use a little updating in the décor but the view was awesome! I would love to Come

I should have given my review a long time ago, but better late then never? I just love this place, especially in the summer time, but they have fun year round events too. The rooms are great, beds are nice, and the service is almost perfect every time. The boat rentals at the resort are so convenient and easy too. With quality rentals to choose from, right at the resort, you’ll want to plan a day for that too. The lake is just gorgeous! I love the pools as well. The private pool for the hotel guests where you are taken by a small boat is great. Complete with bar service, cabanas rentals with tvs, and of course a great the view of the lake… makes for a really great day. There is also a easy little hiking trail if you are up for taking a jump off from it into the lake or a park nearby too. Oh and the spa here… I can’t leave that out. Just thinking about it makes me take in a nice big relaxing breath. Try the blueberry waterfall treatment/​massage. It’s amazing! Julie Goodwin always handles all my reservations and is so great at putting together packages every time. She’s very thoughtful and always remembers details. Thank you Julie! I highly recommend her for your vacation planning here, especially if you are coming for your first visit. I’m leaving out lots a good details but just go have a see for yourself, you’ll love it.

I really give it about 3.5 stars… Awesome hotel, ridiculous location, and just an awesome place to visit! I just went for Christmas on my honeymoon & loved it. A total winter wonderland!!! However… The staff aren’t the best trained. They are super nice people & mean well but they aren’t the best at coordination & communication. I ran out of shirts & needed one cleaned for the ride home and it took the hotel 32 hours to get that task completed. Other than that, no complaints.

The hotel was really nice. I was here as part of a conference in mid Sept for four nights. The room was beautiful with a full lake view and similar to a suite. There was a step down area with a fireplace, couch, and electrically controlled window shades. A small patio was also part of the room.
Service at the hotel was great with friendly, helpful staff available throughout the property. The restaurants onsite were good with Beverlys being my favorite for food and good wine. Whispers is a great ambiance for drinks whether you want to enjoy it inside or outside overlooking the lake.
There is also a gorgeous wooden boat which operates as a complimentary water taxi from the resort to the golf area. It runs frequently throughout the day. The golf course itself is beautiful and you pass right by the famous floating green. I also played the course. It can be pricey ~$ 200 includes golf cart, caddie (which is required), and driving range practice. This is the first time I have experienced a driving range where you hit balls into the water. So cool…
It is amazing that there is so much to do close by the resort in walking distance including art galleries, great restaurants, bars, hiking, walking/​biking around the lake, boat tours, etc. I cannot wait to come here again!

We visited a conference held at the resort. The facilities were nice, clean and comfortable. The resort catered food through out the day and I was very impressed with the quality and level of detail. It was obvious that the people running the conference area are professionals and have an attention to detail that is so often missed by businesses.

VERY UNSAFE
we stayed here and a FELON (that’s correct, somebody who had just gotten out of prison) tried to break into our room from the balcony. The police came etc. We asked the hotel to file a report. The hotel do not even respond to our email asking if they have followed up about this incident. I think they do not want to hurt their reputation. Very unsafe — people can climb into your balcony from a neighbor. And security is lame. The hotel cares about their reputation so will not do the right thing. Imagine a FELON almost breaking into your room — luckily we heard him and yelled. He was almost through the lock!

5 honest stars, 12th floor lake view, about $ 450/​night incl taxes and garage parking. Perfect sunken living room w/​gas fp enhanced the lake sunset views. Comfortable bouncy king bed, separate dressing area with a big safe.
Bath shower had about 80psi water pressure –a welcome change. My only quibble would be to slap whomever designed that half shower wall that simply lets water on to bath floor tile and adjoining wallpaper. I can overlook that since I’m only staying there 3 nights, not buying it. Suggest a proper frameless glass shower enclosure.
Our room was immaculate and not dated in anyway. See my photos and judge for yourself. Who ARE these miserable hayseeds writing whiny Unilocal reviews about the CDA Resort?
The food and wine at Beverly’s is very good, and we found it even more appealing with their happy hour pricing. Other restaurants 3 blocks to a mile away were excellent. Unilocal will help you find your way.
On to their resort spa. I inadvertently touched a raw nerve with miserable Californians posting online at
a photo of the spa’s optional super shower yesterday and I’ll post a 6 second video of it running here for you. 19 Speakman shower heads, computer-​controlled putting out 50 gal of high pressure fresh (not recycled) water for 5 mins for $ 25. Well over a million views of this photo online and counting. Just go and experience it yourself. The spa is expensive, but certainly worth it. We really enjoyed our massages and think you will as well.
The entire resort staff were all very welcoming and certainly a pleasure to interact with.
The hotel wooden boat ride to the golf club was a treat. That’s a $ 300k hand made modern boat. And the food there was simply delicious. Sit outside and watch golfers try to hit on to the floating green.
The nearby hiking trail park is a must hike, easy to moderate in places. We loved it! The town of CDA has a great restaurant vibe and scene. The Unilocal reviews are spot on, and we found them helpful.
We will gladly return to the resort in the future. Definitely to golf here. Expensive $ 200 all-​in golf rates with mandatory caddie, but the course looked exquisite and so appealing. I’m still dreaming about that damn super shower in the spa…

Beautiful room beautiful view. Room service staff was awesome. Every time we asked the front desk (where you check in) for help we were told to hold on or to go to another person. One of the times they even let us know who we should call to get what we needed. This is where the resort dropped the ball. I can get that service at the holiday inn. I expect more. The check in counter is the first impression and the service we needed to check in was passed from person to person. It was like talking to c coffee stand full of teenage girls. So this is a great place if you our in to providing your own customer service. Everything else was top notch. They didn’t even ask if we were celebrating a special occasion. Your staff should go check out Dana point resort in LA. Dana point resort made our anniversary seem like the event of our stay. It really makes me upset when you receive poor customer service

What a great resort. Very well positioned between the water and downtown. There are a ton of bars and restaurants around. You can pay for all sorts of water sports and tours, including sea plane. Local parks, beaches & paths make it great for runners and walks. Would have been 5* if the front desk staff were nicer. The staff never solved a problem but would point you to other people for help.
UPDATE — Since checking out I have moved this review to 1* and provided direct feedback to the GM. We will see if William T. Reagan responds. Bottom line, the staff at the front desk is absolutely terrible. Right down to our checkout they were discourteous, lazy and have no business being in a hotel that charges $ 400 per night. I have received better service at fast food chains. This GM should visit Dana Point Resort to see what $ 400 per night service should feel like.

I would give them a 3.5 stars but unfortunately you need to pick one or the other! We stayed this past weekend, and upon getting to the resort we just thought it was beautiful. My husband has stayed here before, and in full disclosure we didn’t pay for the room, so I can’t comment really on the price and whether or not it was worth it. We had a room with a king bed facing the water… well it was really facing the man with the kiddy pirate ship. Not quite mountain views but nontheless, the room was beautiful. Comfy bed and spacious bathroom area. The tub was definitely dated but the sink area was spacious and there were robes. We got room service one morning– which was very quick to arrive and the food was good. The hot tubs around the pool were busy but we took a couple dips. My only beef with that area is that since it’s an indoor pool, there were a lot of kids, and it was very loud. I think it’s adults only after 9pm though… so we made sure to go back after 9 and enjoy a more quiet atmosphere. We didn’t make it over to the infinity pool. It was very windy out that day and I didn’t think a pool day would have been too fun.
A few of the less impressive things: Overall the staff could have been friendlier. We had a rental car dropped off for us to be picked up upon arrival. The front desk told us to ask the concierge for the car. The concierge rolled her eyes at us and said to ask the valet. The valet also looked as us funny and when what looked to be our car came out, we said «oh is that our rental?» and she made a face and was like «?». Thanks. Although the woman working the valet wasn’t the friendliest, the actual guys running the valet were incredibly helpful. They were definitely hustling.
All in all I’d recommend this place — the views were beautiful

The hotel recognized how bad the room was. The floor was hot from the laundry below and the fumes. They comped the room and are extending a free stay in a deluxe lake facing room. On the plus side, the food was amazing and the prices for a resort are very reasonable.

This waterfront lounge has a cool vibe and an expansive lake view. You’ll find this plush bar on the seventh floor of the lavish Coeur d’Alene Resort. Expect new twists on classic martinis, creative food options and access to Beverly’s 30,000-bottle wine collection. There’s live jazz guitar on Tuesdays that pairs well with the non-​stop lake views.
*Happiest Hours: Daily from 4 – 6 p.m. $ 3 off all wine pours, $ 3 off all house specialty drinks and $ 1 off bottled beers plus food specials, starting at $ 3 for house-​made chips to $ 8 for a lobster corndog with several options in-​between.

Overall, a really enjoyable stay. We had 3 adults, 4 kids in 2 rooms in the North Wing w/​a peek lake view (208, 210). The pros:
— Location, location — right on the lake, floating boardwalk, next to Tubbs Hill; walking distance to the cute town — shops, restaurants, bars; live music in the park Tue. night; Live at 5 — live music, food trucks, etc. on Wed;
— Free boat ride to pretty infinity pool over-​looking the lake, and private beach on the lake; reasonably priced snack bar w/​food and drinks (jacuzzi would have been nice).
— Lovely indoor pool w/​2 jacuzzis and fitness center.
— Outdoor yoga on the terrace or next-​door park, ours w/​Larkin was wonderful.
— Incredible golf course w/​cool floating green (although pricey; about $ 200)
— Comfortable, well-​appointed rooms; mini-​fridge was very nice.
— Housekeeping for our room (Robyn) was so sweet and very good.
— 5 restaurants + lounges/​bars on site, several w/​lake view.
Main complaint was the service — best summed up in 3 words — friendly, but clueless. Over and over, no one knew basic information, even the people who you would most expect to.
For example, I wanted to take a Yoga class. I asked about the cost 4 times, and got 4 different answers: first, the concierge said it was $ 10; second, the fitness center said it was free for guests; third, someone else in fitness said it was actually $ 20/​guests; then someone else told me $ 10. I still don’t know the answer.
For a hotel that touts awards as one of the best 10 hotels in America, the staff just seemed disorganized and not aware of what was going on at the hotel or nearby. I asked for information on the Live After Five Event. The concierge claimed to have never heard of it. When I asked for their list of «What’s going on at the Coeur d’Alene Resort,» it was one of the only 6 activities listed for that day. There was also a spilled drink in the elevator by our room that didn’t get cleaned up, even though I notified 4 employees over 4 hours. I just expected more in service from the Coeur d’Alene Resort; hoping they can improve on this front!

Amazing staff who will do just about anything to make your stay more enjoyable. The only complaint; as is with many holidays, this place is packed and they seem understaffed. The ones working tonight seem very stressed and grumpy. Bad vibe but understandable considering it’s the 4th of July weekend

I have such wonderful memories here. Almost every year growing up, my family and I would come to Beverly’s for Easter Brunch and we’ve never been disappointed. The area around the resort are breathtaking and this place is iconic. They always have a huge display of lights around Christmas, and have people handing out chocolates around Easter.
The rooms and spa are amazing and everything is clean and well kept.
I cannot wait to come back here.

This resort offers me an immaculate, beautiful stay! The room was gorgeous and overlooked the lake. I was there for a conference where I was presenting a paper after our session I had a had a cucumber lemongrass martini at the bar which was excellent! The service and rooms were great. I really enjoyed my time there!

The hotel is very nice and our room was excellent. However the valet guy was a little pushy since I didn’t want him to take my bag, he seemed to brush me off and not want to let me take my bags through the entrance but rather carry by hand.
Other than that the staff was excellent and they have an amazing drink called «pineapple breeze.»
It’s so refreshing, it’s coconut water, muddled pineapple, and grey goose.

I was here this weekend for a conference. The conference rooms are well equipped for the needs of the panels and speakers. The carpet is a little old and you can tell there has been some wear and tear on the dividers. The lunch provided by the conference and resort was delicious.
I stayed in a room on the 3rd floor. It was a good room. There were a few problems. First, I wish that they had a bathtub in the bathroom instead of just a shower. The mattress was a little too hard for my liking so did not have a very restful night. I was also able to hear what was going on in the hallway from about 7 onward.
Overall my stay was okay. If I attend another conference there I may stay here again but probably would not just stay here for a visit because it is expensive.

I was just clicking between 3 and 4 stars about 5 times. It’s right there what is what the current rating is on Unilocal.It’s a nice place, good location (obviously), and a quality ran resort. The only problem is it’s old. You can feel it right away when you walk inside the door.
I bet 10 years about this place was beautiful and fresh. It needs a revitalization/​facelift though.
The rooms a nice (again old) but they’re pretty overpriced. I guess it’s the only resort within 200 miles of any direction so they get away with it.
It you have maybe one special night to celebrate it’s a good place to go.
If you’re looking for a destination vacation I’d say to go Suncadia or somewhere else. Sun Valley maybe?
