Hyatt Place Columbus/OSU

Had a great stay here. They have free parking which was great but our rental had an issue.
Nonetheless, the Front Desk were very helpful with getting us a car to take us into town other than directions. Clean big rooms and very comfy beds. Best of all we got a great deal last minute and all. Our first hotel wasn’t as good as we expected.
This Hyatt is near a decent Bar-​n-​Grill, Shops, and if need be, OSU.
It will definitely be our pick the next time we’re in town.

Although located in a barely developed area, I enjoyed my stay. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I used their shuttle to get to my seminar on the OSU campus and found they were mostly knowledgeable and timely.
One hiccup: One driver got OSU and another college mixed up. I did not know the difference and found out after he drove away. I called the hotel and they contacted the driver and had him come back to get me to the Union.
The hotel is modern and new, and though I did not spend too much time there (sleeping only), I can say the room was quiet and the bed comfortable. The gym was a little bare bones, but I was able to find a workout that used what was available. There is an OSU restaurant and a German restaurant within walking distance, and I ended up in the German restaurant more than once because it was more appealing to me.
The parking structure is across the street and fairly convenient. If I visited Columbus in the future, I would definitely consider a repeat stay.

Great hotel! I love the spacious rooms and the great amenities. Nothing like a coffee bar and 24 hour kitchen. Can’t beat it price wise either!

We came to Columbus to visit OSU and while the hotel was nice, clean, and service was good, the wifi was absolutely terrible. When checking in we were told that there was free wifi and that it did not require a login which was nice, until we actually tried to connect. On the times we could even connect, which was not possible in either of our rooms, the internet was slow and would not even load the NY times website. Other than that, the hotel was nice and breakfast was okay, just plan on using cellular data if you ever stay here.

Booked last minute through Hotel Tonight and they had a crib all set up for us. Nighttime front desk person was super friendly, the room was really nice, and we enjoyed the small indoor pool and the free hot breakfast. Definitely recommend it.

My wife and I traveled from Toronto, Ontario, to Columbus, OH, to see the Sherlock Holmes exhibition there. We had our cat with us. We made the reservation through Expedia. The Expedia website said that pets were allowed. So did the Hyatt website! When we got to the hotel after our 9-​hour trip, we were informed that cats were not allowed! We have traveled through the US, Canada and Europe, and have never, ever encountered such a pet policy. You had all of these people walking their smelly, flea-​bitten dogs around the hotel entrance – but a nice, clean indoor cat was not allowed! Maybe some people are allergic to cats – but everyone is allergic to flea bites! We all know that when dogs are walked, they pick up fleas. We were not impressed with the looks of the hotel, anyway. It looked like a factory building in the old East Germany. One other thing – when we asked to talk to a manager, we were informed that no manager was on duty at the hotel! Can anyone imagine a hotel with no manager on duty? As far as my wife and I are concerned, the Hyatt chain has literally gone to the dogs. We have crossed Hyatt off our list forever, whether we are traveling with a pet or not. If Hyatt wants to have such a policy, they should make it widely known to all of the online booking agencies so nobody else will make an exhausting trip only to be turned away.

I have had excellent experiences with this hotel when traveling on business. The staff is always very accommodating and has been very helpful when providing directions, recommendations, and even helping me get the things that my forgetful mind has caused me to leave at home. The facility is new and is extremely well maintained, and is in a great location relative to pretty much anything in Columbus. The area surrounding the hotel is still being developed so don’t expect much of a view for the time being, but from certain areas you can see the downtown skyline. I plan on staying at this same hotel each time I am in the area.

Solid hotel: comfortable, courteous, convenient, relatively attractive. No complaints.
I liked the room layout. As you walk in, on the left, there is an alcove with a counter on the near side, under which is the mini-​fridge and a storage area. Across from this is the desk and chair. To the right is the living area, with an L-​shaped couch, an end table, and a giant ottoman. Halfway back the depth of the room on the left is a ledge upon which sits the flat-​screen TV and under which are storage cubbies. Across from this on the right side is a quarter-​partition separating the living area from the bed. The bed is in the back-​right quadrant near the window, flanked by two small bedside tables. In the back-​left quadrant is the vanity counter and sink area, separate from the bathroom containing shower and toilet.
It would be easier to draw than to describe but hopefully the idea comes across. Although it doesn’t offer a fully light-​secluded area, the partition does help to accommodate two people with different sleeping schedules. And the separate shower and sink areas make getting-​ready time faster too.

Beautiful, new hotel. Clean in every respect. Easy check in and check out. We payed the Ohio State Hospital rate, so I found it to be a reasonable deal. I would stay here again without hesitation.

Horrible breakfast, nice rooms though. Large tv in room. I was pleasantly surprised, except for the breakfast. Nothing worse than waking up to poor food

I had to travel to Columbus for work and chose this hotel based on it’s proximity to the office.
Service was smiley and accomodating, as hotel service should be. My only qualm, and it’s small, was that no one wore a uniform or standard clothing to set them apart from visiting guests. Maybe they were wearing nametags, but I didn’t notice. Another problem was the hotel’s free wifi was spotty. Each time I tried to access it, the connection failed.
My room was… roomy. In my king suite, there was a full sectional sofa with accompanying ottoman, a 37-​inch TV, a desk area, 5-​ft+ countertop with mini-​fridge and personal coffee maker with assorted teas, a separate counter top for the sink near the bathroom, and a closet larger than the one in my own bedroom. I also appreciated the details in décor. It was warm and neutral, with innocuous abstract artwork on every wall. The bathroom had this sea-​colored «bubbles» wallpaper which was nice and modern. And, most importantly, the room was clean. Even my toilet paper was appropriately folded into that cute triangle.
The a la cart menu is ok, it is over-​priced hotel food after all. But their kitchen remains open later than the nearby restaurant and deli, so convenience costs.
I’ll give Hyatt Place 3 solid stars.

Not worth it.
The GOOD:
Convenient, covered parking right in front of the building. Shuttle service. Attached restaurants. We were able to choose the floor (1 – 7) we wanted to stay on. Nice lobby with complimentary apples and oranges. Nice, new durable Rubbermaid quality highchairs. A couple strolled in at closing time for breakfast but the staff was accommodating and did not close up, which was nice.
The BAD:
First, the suite was dull and cramped. There is not much room to move around in, especially after bringing in luggage. The colors in the suite are mainly a lackluster brown, tan, dark beige, and black. The old sectional sofa bed had stains in high traffic areas of the fabric. We had to put a blanket on it before sitting on it because it just felt unclean. Adding to the dreary outdated décor was the diffused lighting. In some areas, a single switch controlled the power to two or more sources and in other areas, like the bathroom, the lighting was dim. But the worst thing about the bathroom wasn’t the murky setting but the clogged tub. Even though the drain was open, a quick shower for one person still resulted in water up to your ankles. Since we were only there one night, we did not complain to the front desk about it.
Second, the complimentary breakfast was average. If you wanted anything ‘hot’ like eggs or waffles, you had to pay for it. We had to deposit a refundable $ 15 per person fee upon check in, in case we used this service, according to the staff member. The buffet included a variety of cereal, oatmeal, plain bagels, sliced bread, Yoplait yogurt, apples and oranges, milk and orange juice in pourable jugs, and coffee.
Third, the customer service was lacking. The things I am about to mention may seem terribly petty but these things matter to some people. Mainly, the people behind the desk were not the friendly, talkative type. After a midnight stroll, the lady at the empty front desk merely nodded when I graciously complimented how beautiful Columbus was, even though it was smaller then our home city. And before that, when my partner and I came down to check out the al la carte items in the front and I said something else, there wasn’t a response again either. My partner laughed at me each time as we walked back to our room and nudged me in the ribs for being ignored twice. A little embarrassing but it was not the worse like the next morning, when my baby had a small spit up accident on the tiled lobby floor. I immediately notified a woman behind the front desk and I apologized. Without saying anything, she went in the back to get something to wipe it up with. As she came out, a male staff member from the back appeared and said: «Why what happened?!» When he saw me, he said, «Oh, sorry.» I guess she was unhappy about the little accident and probably said something to him about it.
We won’t be staying here again.

Thanks to a close friend who is a member of the Hyatt family, we were treated to a night at the new Hyatt Place.
Very modern hotel, in looks and technology. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Our room was huge, with a corner sofa that pulled out into a queen bed. We didn’t need it, but it was nice to have. We had a king bed that was a typical hotel bed.
The TV was huge and wonderful to watch some NFL postseason on. Each room has a wall panel so you can hook your computer up to the TV. Free wifi was a plus.
Breakfast ended at 10, which I thought was really early for a Sunday. We also thought we were told 11, so we went down at 10:20 and everything was put up. However, the great staff got out some cereal and juice so we didn’t go hungry.
Checkout was quick and easy, and there is a complimentary parking garage across from the entrance.
While it’s not in a historic or swanky part of town, it was just a 5 minute drive to downtown. We’d definitely stay again.
