History
Established in 1987.
In the early 1980’s, At Ohio State University, Stu Appelbaum was a PhD candidate in Education, New Media, and Photography. During this time he also raised four children. To support the family, he supplement a teaching assistant’s salary by selling used camera equipment out of his home.
By 1988 Stu’s basement and living room were filled with inventory. The younger children used the plethora of shipping boxes as climbing blocks.
By 1989 Stu shipped a significantly large amount of packages every day, warranting a change. He incorporated and named the new venture Bill and Mike’s Photo, Inc, after his grandparents.
Soon thereafter, the business outgrew its bounds and relocated to Clintonville, a neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio. Here it became what it is today, Midwest Photo Exchange.
Midwest Photo Exchange has been owned and operated as a family business for 20 years — with Stu as the owner, the oldest son Moishe as Vice President.
