Their prices are a joke. Too expensive for used clothing and the trade in value they offer is an insult.

Rag-​o-​rama holds a warm place in my heart. A friend and I came here nearing 10 years ago and loved it. There were unusual pieces and we loved thrifting. Fast forward to 2015 and it wasn’t so great. It was strangely quiet in the store and I so badly wanted to score something awesome, but most of the clothing I looked at just seemed WAY too worn or messy.
I love thrifting and the hunt involved in it, so I get the «hit or miss» nature, but combined with the atmosphere, I was way too let down. I’ll probably come back at some point, just with lower hopes.

This is my new favorite spot for finding diamonds in the rough. I copped a new leather Zara bomber and a pair of gold sparkle chucks. The staff are personable attentive and helpful without being overbearing or trying to cool-​kid you. Prices are good and if you want to get funny or weird there are always a few crazy things in the racks. Thumbs up, breh.

Rag-​o-​Rama is great for costume stuff and for the eccentric style. They have a wide range of stuff, and you don’t have to dig too hard like you would in a more mainstream thrift store.
It’s hit or miss, and luckily I hit on the first time. Even though I found 2 great items I was looking for, their prices are a bit higher than I’d prefer to spend.
$ 15 bucks for a used pancho is borderline in my opinion. I will definitely go back!

It’s always either a hit or a miss with this store. They are perfect to browse if you’re looking for some funky/​creative clothes but a lot of their stuff is a tad overpriced for a second hand store. The only time I feel like I’m getting a great deal is if I actually find something I love in the sales section, which is usually 50% off, so I’m paying anywhere from $ 4 – 6 per item… and even that is a rare occasion for me.
As for the guys section, it’s pretty basic. My boyfriend never really finds anything he likes, but then again, his style is rather eccentric and trendy…

They have nice stuff, however most of it isn’t actually vintage. If by vintage they mean things that were recently stitched in China and sold in Forever21 with signage that reads «Vintage Fashion» then yes, it’s vintage :/​Also, they are waaaaaaay overpriced. I saw some «vintage» (definitely not) boots in here for sale for $ 50…umm, not for something used. Eh, I’ll stick with the Goodwiil.

I try so hard to like this place. My girlfriend always finds something here and I never do. Nothing is really vintage and everything is way over priced for a secondhand store. $ 15 for a used shirt is a little ridic, don’t ya think?
I made like $ 15 off of selling my clothes to them, which was iiight, I guess.

Not bad, the Buick of used clothing stores. Lots of leg room, power windows, am/​fm cassette, moonroof. Would give it 4 stars but the seats aren’t leather.
Staff is the Buick of staffs. Your grandma drove one and they really like them in China.

I always come prepared to buy nothing. Sometimes there just isn’t anything worth getting. However, sometimes there are fantastic deals on new condition clothes that make it worthwhile.
If you come with a plan of what to get, you’ll likely leave disappointed (unless you’re looking for ugly sweaters). But if you make a few trips, you might just leave very happy one of those times.

This is one of my favorite places to thrift! Cool atmosphere and a broad selection. Everything from grungy hipster clothes, to costumes and dresses. I personally have purchased two brand new Bebe brand dresses here (original tags still attached) for a FRACTION of what that original price tag said. Love it!

The name Rag-​O-​Rama totally gave me pause and I wasn’t sure it would be worth the trip. It was, however, a worthy experience.
They have men’s and women’s clothing, shoes, jewelry, and accessories, as well as a small costume area. The style of clothing tended to err on the side of adventure, but there were plenty of «basics,» as well.
The fitting rooms are fantastic. You’re led down a ramp into a large area with many individual rooms. Not trying on anything? Have a seat on the comfy round couch while you wait to judge your friend’s fashion choices.
I thought the prices were very reasonable; I got a leather skirt for $ 12.50. They also had a sale section in the back.
The entire store was clean and well-​lit. All employees were friendly and helpful.

Went into Rag-​O-​Rama for the first time today. While I wasn’t super impressed, I do think I’ll give it another chance.
It feels and looks like a Buffalo Exchange to me, but I didn’t find anything I really liked. I usually have a problem with finding TOO much at stores like this, and that definitely wasn’t the case here. The things that I did sort of like seemed a little pricey for me. I found a dress that was cute, but it was $ 14 which seemed a little much for what it was. I ended up passing. I didn’t like that I saw dresses from places like Target and Wet Seal for that price, because I knew they sold for close to that when they were brand new. Most of the things there didn’t really appeal to me; maybe I’m not hipster enough.
With that being said, there were some definite positives. The staff was SUPER friendly. We got a happy greeting when we came in, a pleasant thank you when we were leaving. Those extra touches alone make me want to give them an extra star.
The dressing room area was nice too. There was a cool looking seat for my boyfriend to wait at (1 person per dressing room; thankfully they have ample seating).
Not my favorite consignment shop, but I would try it again when I was in the area.

This place is great for those who don’t have a lot of time to go out and search for new trends at the mall or various thrift stores around the city. If you want hip, they have it all here. But it comes at a price. The most expensive thrift store I’ve ever been to. I always love secondhand clothing however. Well organized by clothing items. And kudos on the new dressing room!

Came here recently to sell some of my clothes and found the service to be incredibly friendly. While I was waiting for my clothes to be sorted, at least 3 employees approached me while shopping to ask if I needed help finding anything. If there’s 2 words I’d use to describe the place its colorful and fun! However, the reason for the 3 stars is because of the price point as well. Rag-​O-​Rama is consignment– so naturally, since they have to pay a fee for items, they have to sell for a bit more. Compared to other vintage stores in the area their prices are reasonable, but like others have said, many of the items there can be purchased at local thrift shops for much cheaper. Also, I had trouble finding anything that was really form fitting or tailored, a lot of the clothes were too loose & baggy for my taste.

I’ve sold, I’ve purchased, and I’ve been around since its opening when it was in the other building next to Hound Dog’s Pizza. I liked it better then.
It’s definitely hit or miss. But you can still find some very cool things here and I will agree that if you need something for a one time event and don’t wish to spend a lot, this store can be great for that.
In the beginning it did seem more vintage, less pricey, more unique, and maybe higher standards. This was one of my absolute favorite second hand stores at the time (there were a couple of vintage stores in the short north I frequented too that have LONG since disappeared).
The only complaint I have is that over the years, especially in the last few, it seems to have morphed into an overpriced thrift store. The quality of what they accept is different. I don’t know, maybe I’m just older now and the concept is lost on me. Could be.
People keep complaining about the staff. I never had a bad experience in all the years I’ve been around this store. I’m not some cool, trendy, hipster kid, either. Pretty much everyone I’ve ever talked to there has been friendly, no one has ever been anything less than courteous. That’s a lot of years. Maybe it’s the demographic of youngsters the store attracts who are still struggling with self esteem issues.
Also, I never thought of it as a personal insult if they didn’t take my clothes. It’s not because they don’t like you. There were times they didn’t take mine and well… okay. Guess that means it’s not what they were looking for at the time. No big deal. It’s already bagged and ready to be dropped off at a donation site.

I live just down the street from Ragorama and was deeply disappointed by the sad selections. Rag indeed. The clothes are so poor quality and not with the current trends.
Coming from SF where we had an abundance of fairly priced resale shops filled with great finds, I found this place to be overpriced and outdated. The only half way decent item I found was a pair of mint colored AG jeans for $ 40!!! You can get them on sale brand new at nordstrom rack at that price. Over near the mens section they were selling hats that I had recently seen at a thrift store (also new with tags) for $ 13 more. Get the f@ck outta here.
As for selling. DO NOT. I came in today and specifically waited to sell my things while present. I told the guy at the desk I would stay in the store for the 30 min wait. Nobody ever called my name (even though they knew I was waiting) and when I asked why the person after me was leaving he noticed that they bought three things from me. My total of $ 18 TRADE IN was a frigging joke. As I walked out I realized they bought a pair of brand new shoes, a skirt, and a pair of brand new designer mens jeans with the tag priced at $ 160. Hellllllll nah. I went back in and requested my jeans back. I’d rather give them away then sell them for $ 5.
If you plan to sell, be adamant you’re present for pricing. But honestly I think you’re better off going somewhere else. Shady practices and low ball buys/​too high markups mean that I’ll never return.

I gave this store a chance but honestly, it’s horrible. The vibe is lame. Some of the clothes are nice but not worth the price. They are used. Someone has farted in those pants time and time again. I’ll give you $ 2 but not $ 18.
The part that turned me off completely was the fur rack. Soooo much fur and leather. In the middle of hip and progressive Clintonville of all places. I was thoroughly disgusted and do not plan on returning.

This place is hit or miss when shopping. I pretty much only buy 50% off items, because spending $ 8 or more on ANYTHING used it pretty silly. Selling is also hit or miss. I feel like when a guy is buying they don’t know what they should buy or not buy. They pass on things that are brand new with tags… much better then other junk they have there! Oh well, I am thankful for a place to sell my old clothes either way.
Pro tip: Try selling dressy clothes at clothes mentor instead.

I must preface this review by stating that I have never attempted to sell any garments to Rag-​O-​Rama (sadly, I fear they would turn their noses up at my wardrobe more times than Gene Simmons has had sex), so my rating does not take into account their sell/​trade program.
Based on the general Unilocalers’ consensus, Rag-​O-​Rama is not a very cool place to like. But I never professed to being cool either, so here goes.
Though a sometimes-​pricey secondhand clothing store often considered thrifting for charlatans, Rag-​O-​Rama has proven to be quite useful on various occasions. Case in point: on the day leading up to a karaōke outing a couple years ago, I ripped my favorite shirt (having slept in it the night before). Rag-​O-​Rama is closer to me than Volunteers of America, so I hit it up for convenience’s sake. ‘Lo and behold, I immediately found found a sleek, snappy Express button-​down for $ 15.00. Not dirt cheap, but in Express dollars, muy cheapo! And it has since become my new favorite shirt.
Although I don’t always luck out, the clothing at Rag-​O-​Rama always seems to be in good shape (can’t always be said for thrift store garb), of name-​brand (Banana Republic, American Apparel, J. Crew, etc.) and more excitingly, they carry a lot of stuff that fits me snugly. T-​shirts are always abundant, pants I have had less luck with, but such is the case anywhere. Rag-​O-​Rama may not have the same «cred» as other resale shops, but if I don’t have all day to shop and need to get in and out, it fits the bill.

You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and hipsterdom. Prices are outrageous, there’s rarely anything in larger sizes, and even though you can sell clothes there, it’s a very hit or miss process.
That said, they do carry a bunch of wigs and costume items that feel much more reasonably priced, and I found a nice hat.
All things considered, I miss when they were next to Hound Dog’s — it feels like the more space this store has, the less they carry that interests me.
