Specialties
Ohio Wildlife Center’s Hospital admits nearly 5,000 animals, annually. We provide medical treatment for injured, ill and orphaned wildlife with the goal of returning a healthy individual back to the wild. This is a free service to the central Ohio community, but we rely on caring individuals, like you, to bring us animals in need.
Our volunteer monitored wildlife information line provides answers to the most common questions about orphaned and injured animals found in your backyard. Call the number listed above and follow the prompts to determine if you need to bring an animal to the hospital for help. Visit our website for capture and transport advice for injured and orphaned wildlife.
History
Established in 1984.
Ohio Wildlife Center is a private, non-profit, volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization providing more than 30 years of services to Central Ohioans who care about wildlife. We rely almost entirely on the generosity of individual and corporate donors, private grants, endowments and service fees.
Ohio Wildlife Center is a leader in wildlife rehabilitation and conservation education. We treat nearly 5,000 animals in our wildlife hospital every year and reach thousands of adults and children through education programs.

Business Owner
Ohio Wildlife Center was founded in 1984 by veterinarian, Dr. Donald L. Burton (1951 – 2014), with the mission of fostering awareness and appreciation of Ohio’s native wildlife, Don celebrated (and treated) all creatures wild. In direct response to his vision, Ohio Wildlife Center treats more than 5,000 animals from 140 different species of wildlife each year and is recognized as one of the largest wildlife rehabilitation centers in the country.
This well-established grassroots organization is equipped with emergency treatment services, education programming and SCRAM! Wildlife Control — a proactive, humane, hands-off approach to evicting animals as an alternative to trapping. Central to Don’s main philosophy is that once a person learns the role a wild animal plays in their habitat, it becomes tough to hate or harm that animal. Co-existence with the wildlife around us is really the heart of local conservation.
