I usually just head straight over to the actual Tensuke Market when I’m in the mood for sushi because I want to gorge on sashimi, but Tensuke Sushi is a solid option for when you want sushi rolls or sashimi bowls. Some of the rolls are a bit on the pricey side($ 7 for futo maki? Really?), but they’re good quality, and infinitely superior to what you’re going to get next door at Akai Hana. I’m a huge fan of their chirashi, which boasts great variety(you get stuff like squid and octopus) for only $ 11 and well-made sushi rice. Wait time is a bit long(maybe it’s just me, but I’m not sure why it sometimes takes 20 minutes to make said chirashi if there’s no one ahead of me in line), but the people who run this place are incredibly sweet and super friendly.

My mother used to own a sushi restaurant in Long Beach, CA, and I’ve worked there for about 6 years so I know a thing or two about sushi. This is a legit review lol! Since I moved to Columbus, I tried a few sushi restaurants; I can’t even remember the names because they were all that bad that I wanted to forget about the experiences! Tensuke is the only place I would frequent for sushi even though it isn’t really even a sushi restaurant. This place is inside a Japanese grocery store, and they really only have limited number of rolls and nigiri style sushi! I only eat nigiris(fish on top of rice) so this place is perfect! In my opinion they have the freshest fish here in Columbus, I’ve never been disappointed yet! And they have the best price! Sushi is so expensive in Columbus. I usually get uni(sea urchin), toro(tuna belly, they often run out of this and uni), salmon, white tuna, salmon roe(eggs), yellowtail, scallop, and sometimes clam. Sometimes, toro isn’t really toro; it’s supposed to be fatty tuna, but sometimes they just give you regular tuna, so be careful with that! Ask the sushi chef how the toro is like would be my advice. Another cool thing about Tensuke is that if you dont want sushi, and u are feeling like eating a lot of sashimi, you can buy a chunk of salmon/tuna/white tuna from the market, and ask the staff to cut them into sashimi style pieces. The last time I got a piece of salmon and asked them to cut it into sashimi. I ended getting about 18 pieces of salmon sashimi for about 11 dollars! It was really really good!

Best supermarket sushi you can find in Columbus, or any other city for that matter. Their giant spicy shrimp/tuna rolls is excellent.

While I am not a fan of the Market due to exhorbitant pricing, the Sushi Window embedded within is a valuable resource for the very inadequate sushi presence in Columbus. The sushi is still overpriced, but slightly more justifiable as the food is prepared and not grocery. The sushi is fairly authentic, fresh, and high-quality. I was fairly content with my 5 nigiri [3 sake(salmon), 1 hamachi(yellowtail), 1 uni(sea urchin)] and toro/negi hosomaki(tuna belly/green onion cut-roll) for $ 14. Subtle things, such as a dab of wasabi nestled between layers in the hamachi nigiri, suggest a strive for authenticity I greatly appreciate.
