Big Air Heating & Air Conditioning

This review is only based on my pre-​sales impression as I am in the process of getting multiple bids for replacing my existing HVAC system.
I contacted Big Air, the next day at the proper time Ron N. arrived. Ron was very professional, helpful and not pushy during the entire process.
I informed Ron of poor flow in some of the rooms in the house and that since the system was 19−½ years old I was thinking of retiring it. He checked all the rooms and asked if he could look in the crawl hole to examine the ducts which I allowed him to do. After inspecting the system and the ducts he told me why I was having poor air flow and quoted me a price to resolve the problem. He then went over the various models and suggested the correct equipment for my application. He provided me with a cost and gave me a 5
% military discount.
Of all the contractors I have seen thus far Ron was the only one who checked the entire system and ducts.
3÷12÷2016 I have decided to wait on the purchase because the system is still working fine an the money involved in replacing it at this time. I certainly would consider this company were I to replace my system.

This company is fantastic. They have great professional people to work with and do an
outstanding job. We got a new furnace and new pipes under the house. They get to the house on time and work very hard. I highly recommend this company.

I was having a small problem with my Trane «Clean Effects» filter system… one my wife and I couldn’t fix even though it looked simple enough. Two previous HVAC companies couldn’t fix it either… in fact they made things worse. I called Big Air and they treated me as if I was a good customer, set me up with an appointment right away and even though it was a small job, they were happy to help!
Russ arrived promptly at the appointment time, cheerful and eager to solve my problem. He worked on it diligently and professionally and got it fixed when no one else could. He was very personable and thorough. The charges were very reasonable.
I would gladly recommend Big Air & Russ to anyone looking for professional and quality results!

We recently purchased a home in Walnut Creek that was in original condition and had a full installation done: furnace, condenser, and all the duct work and cutting. The team was fast, professional, and made great decisions about the location of the vents and thermostat. The price was right in line with what we’d expect for the work we needed done. When we had a technical problem a week later, they were fast to come out and fix it. Can’t recommend them highly enough!

The furnace in my small 700sf condo in Benicia died the week before Thanksgiving and unfortunately Big Air was the first contractor we called. Ron quoted me $ 3,500 to replace the furnace and thermostat. I nearly passed out, and not from heat deprivation! I’m no HVAC expert but common sense told me that a furnace for a tiny 1 bedroom condo should not be so expensive. Ron gave me a really hard sales pitch too, which always puts me off.
So I called two other contractors, Haddon Heating and ASAP Heating. Haddon’s quote was a more reasonable $ 2,700 and they did not charge me an inspection fee whereas Big Air charged a non-​refundable $ 45 inspection fee.
The winning bid came from ASAP (
). ASAP actually gave me a quote online of between $ 1,800 and $ 2,200. They came by to inspect the job after giving me the on-​line quote and informed me that it was a simple job and would be $ 1,800 or roughly HALF what Big Air wanted. I hired them on the spot and they did the work the next day.
Don’t believe me? Get multiple bids for your job and find out for yourself. Unfortunately calling Big Air will cost you, even if you don’t have them do the work!
PS to Owner: The property is in Benicia, not Napa, and I use a nom de plume for my reviews. What I have written in my review is fact. You guys tried to take advantage of me because it was right before a holiday and during a cold snap, you got my $ 45 and this review in return for your greed.

Russ showed up right on schedule and did a really thorough furnace tune up. He also noticed the thermostat was a little loose and tightened that up, which was cool.

Our house in the Oakland hills relied on natures air conditioning system with San Francisco bay cooling the breezes for many years. This «system» hasn’t worked so well the last few years, so we decided to add an AC unit to our 15 year old Trane central heating system. I contacted six contractors and had them inspect our house and make recommendations. While all were responsive and professional in their proposals, Ron, the estimator for Big Air took extra time to really understand our requirements and explore alternative solutions with me. In the end, the most cost-​effective solution was to install a Trane AC unit that is fully compatible with our Trane furnace, and a Honeywell two-​zone ducting system to balance the distribution of air to multiple levels of our house. This required extensive modifications to the old ducts and adding some new ducts. The initial installation took four days. The installation staff were very professional and worked with me when plans had to be adjusted. A neighbor expressed concerns about excessive sound from the planned location of the AC unit after a technician spent the better part of a day installing the AC connections. I negotiated an agreement with the neighbor for an alternate location, and Big Air relocated the AC connections at their expense. On discovering the Honeywell thermostats needed different wiring to activate wireless communications for an outside temperature sensor (which I bought on Amazon and installed), Big Air had two technicians come back and rewire the thermostats at no charge.
I definitely recommend Big Air if you have a complex installation project.

Big Air recently installed a new Trane heater in my house in August. Ron was very informative and answered all my questions when he came to give me the estimate. He was very good about explaining the difference between my options but did not push for me to spend more. I wanted to get the furnace installed before my vacation, and they called when a space opened up. The installers were very polite, did the job efficiently, and left everything cleaned up. I believe I got a very good price on a great furnace, and the whole experience went much more smoothly than I expected.

I received a call from the business and see that they have responded. I don’t think that posting an accurate review of poor service is a «jab»…Yelp is a review site and not all reviews will be good. If there’s something that I’ve said that is not accurate, then the business owner is free to correct that. But the fact is that everything happened exactly as I described. The screen capture from my phone shows that I did return their confirmation call and they even admit in their response that it’s not uncommon for them to not get voicemail confirmations…
Which is exactly my point. If a business knows of a flaw in its system, one that creates problems for customers, they should fix it, not complain about accurate Unilocal reviews. You may have to pay your workers for customers who don’t show up (and I suspect you can bill the customers for that missed call), but you’re missing the part where your flawed system shifts the burden to the customers, who don’t get any reimbursement when you choose to not send someone out and the customer has taken the day off of work.
I’m a fair guy. I understand that businesses make mistakes. If Big Air addresses their problematic confirmation policy (i.e., institutes a policy to call the customer the day of the appointment if they don’t think they’ve previously received a confirmation), I’ll revise this review to reflect the fact that they made a good faith effort to fix the problem. I can’t give five stars, but I’m more than happy to change it to four stars if the policy has changed.

Amazing service, from Ron our salesperson to Hector, David and the installation team. Big Air replaced all of our ducts, for a very fair price and incredibly did the complete install in less than 7 hours, all done!
Kudos also to Eric the dispatcher and Russ the tech for working with us to adjust 2 ducts… all very professional!

The Repair-​Man arrived on-​time. Checked-​out my A/​C Unit, was thorough, & all is good.
There was NO ‘added-​on’ problems, etc. He was very courteous & seemed to get the job completed in good time. I can HIGHLY recommend BIG AIR for your A/​C needs,

I can’t say enough about this company. Ron came out and gave us a fair and reasonable estimate that was within our budget. He didn’t try and sell us extras that were completely unnecessary like another company did. The technicians were courteous, respectful, clean and very efficient! They came out on Fathers Day to put in our new AC unit and had our house cooler than we could even remember. In one day our AC is running ½ the time it used to. Our heating system needed a complete re haul. We needed to replace our heater but given that our home is an older home (built in 1960s), heaters were no longer made that small. We needed to gut our old heater, build a catwalk and relocate the heater to the attic, cut new duct systems and vents. As with every projects, there are unexpected events but the on-​site team lead by Sean, Ron (sales rep) and Mike (owner) all handled it professionally.
Big Air is not the cheapest out there but they are reasonable and the most professional and are committed to educating you on your investment. Ron did not pressure me to make any decision during his initial visit. He provided me with all of the furnace options and the cost associated, both short and long term. He was very understanding and committed to a long term relationship rather than a quick close.
When cutting new vents into to the room, the presence of asbestos did not make it possible to cut the vent into the ceiling. Sean offered an option to cut the vent into the wall instead and locate the boot into the hallway closet. He thoroughly explained the option to me which worked out perfectly without increasing the cost or delay to the project.
During the install, an oversight was made and caused the project to be delayed. The team was very apologetic and quickly addressed the issues. I had a long conversation with Mike and he understood our frustration with the delay and took ownership of the situation. I understand that not everything goes as planned and I found Big Air to be superb in how they handled the situation. Mike and his team is committed to developing a long relationship with their client and ensuring that every customer receives the high level of customer service and value of their investments.

Big Air has it all! They are trustworthy, professional, knowledgeable, use quality products, and give top quality service. Every aspect of my new furnace & a/​c install went smoothly and met/​exceeded all my expectations. And, the bonus is my furnace is now the neatest, cleanest item in my garage. Every duct is wrapped neatly and with perfection. Impressive! I am so happy the owner, Mike, gave me the option to add dual zone in my 2-​story home. It works like a charm. It’s not hot upstairs and cold downstairs which is typical in 2-​story homes. And, my PG&E bills are dramatically lower. Thank you Big Air!

I just needed to buy a new furnace as my old one dies again and I am done throwing money at it. Going through Home Depot, They contracted out to Big Air for the installation. They were able to book me an appointment the very next morning! Ron showed up right on time to go over my system and review my options with me. He was very professional, pleasant and knowledgeable. He charted all of my options and did not pressure me to sign on the spot. Being the coldest time of the year (California cold, anyways) I opted to sign and they scheduled me for the installation the very next day!
The technicians that came to do the install also arrived right on time and were friendly and professional. Very clean. They started on the work right away and I am looking forward to coming home to a warm house! Before I left, Hector pointed out that my gas line was loose! He also said he would do a couple extra checks and fine tuning to my system that goes above and beyond what was contracted. This shows me that he takes pride in his work which means a lot to me.
Perhaps the technician who came to my house before was not the best example of the professionals they have at Big Air. I am very happy with my overall experience so far. I will update if anything changes.

The five stars is for Mike and the heating system that was installed. I had a lot of work done on my house so I was unable to provide a review until I could turn on my heat. I turned on my heater and everyone comments how warm my house gets just within a couple of minutes. When I first met Mike I knew he would be the guy for my job as he seemed honest, showed up on time, fair price and listened to what I wanted. I had met with several other hvac companies that either did not show up were twice the price of this company or were too low of price (that’s a red flag too) Mike came in right in a middle range price.
I added moulding to my house and the registers didn’t quite fit and just one phone call to Mike and he was very nice and sent out Chris right away. Chris fixed the registers and he came back out to just to put up my filter. Everything was left down because my house was under construction.
I love my heating system and I hope it works for a long time! I also had them do my air conditioning as well as new duct work. I cannot review my air conditioning system yet as I have not needed to turn on the AC at this time.
