Food is ok. Prices high. Service reasonable. When they first opened everything was up to par. A little flaw hefe and there but you know they are working on it so its ok. But during the management transition a lot of things went downhill. We Use to go once or twice every other week to nothing at all now.

The service here sucks. The poor guy was trying to take our order and seat tables. He didn’t know anything about the menu when I asked about a sushi roll he said he didn’t know… In the middle of taking me order he walked away to seat a table. Disappointed.

Always great service and food! We love the Tom Yum and the Kow Piak soups with shrimp. Both are good portion size. Drunken noodles are good also with large portion size. Fried dumplings are good also, but they are usually descent anywhere you go. Great atmosphere for a hang out or date night. Prices are average compared to other spots.

Let me preface by saying our server was EXTREMELY friendly. We were seated promptly and our drink orders were taken. The drink list is pretty extensive, but my wife is pregnant and asked which drinks could be made non-alcoholic. The short answer was«none». I thought this was a bit odd, but no biggie. As we were going over the menu, I noticed that all of the«speciality sushi» items were more or less copied from the Sekisui Cordova menu. I asked the server if they were affiliated, and he said«No, but all Japanese sushi menus are about the same.» Not even all of the Sekisui restaurants have the same menu, so I knew this was a bunch of crap. They could at least change the names of the rolls. My wife was eyeing some yakitori, but once we were ready to order, the server informed us that about 65% of the menu was unavailable due to a transition in management. No yakitori. She settled on the Dancing Shrimp roll(which is made of shrimp and lobster). I got a yellowtail and tuna nigiri(2 per order). A few minutes after we order, the server returns and apologizes, telling us that they are out of lobster, is it ok if they substitute with just shrimp. We say that’s no problem, but the price ended up being the same. This is something we didn’t think about until after the fact, but we had agreed to the downgrade. When the food came out, he put a plate down with just one piece of each nigiri I ordered. I told him«I thought each order of nigiri came with two pieces.» He said«Oh you said you wanted ‘A yellowtail, and A tuna’ so I thought you wanted just one piece of each. Still no big deal. He went and got the rest of my order, BUT if I ordered«A Spicy Shrimp» would he bring me just one piece? The food itself was ok. The fish was about as fresh as any other Japanese restaurant in the Memphis area, but the rice was well below par. Very dry and didn’t hold together well. Once we paid the bill, I told my wife I had to use the restroom. I asked the server where it was, and he pointed to the far wall. He said«Back there sir.» I said«Thanks», and started to walk back. Then he said«Sir Honestly? Is it number one or number two?»… HAHAHA! I said«Number one.» He then said«Oh ok then you’re fine.» and waved me on. The whole time I was in the bathroom with a huge grin on my face, I couldn’t help but think, «What if I had said, number two???». So, when we were walking out, I had to ask him. He said«Oh it’s just really hot back there! I wouldn’t want to do number two back there! I was going to suggest you go to the gas station across the parking lot». I’m not exaggerating when I say this dude gave me and my wife the laugh of the year. We were crying all the way home. I must say the entertainment factor of this place is very high, but the food isn’t worth the price. If I want to order off of Sekisui’s menu, but get a lesser product, I’ll go here. Otherwise, I’ll just go to Sekisui. Walk into this place with a hefty appetite for rejection, and for god’s sake… empty your bowels first. Hopefully new management will streamline and retrain the staff, but we won’t be back to find out.

We entered the front door, and the host silently walked us across a sticky floor to a table where we were promptly forgotten. Not even a smile as the host seated us. After several minutes and still no service, we decided to leave. No one acknowledged us as we walked back across the sticky floor and exited back out the front door either. Glad to know things are going so great for them that they didn’t need our business. We drove across the street to iSushi and enjoyed some delicious sushi with excellent service.

This was my first trip to Sake, as I’m an out-of-towner who was visiting friends. We met at Sake for dinner and weren’t disappointed. I ordered the Thai Sausage and it was delicious. I even tried a piece of sashmi; I’m not a big fan of sushi, but it was so good that I had a second piece. The service was excellent and the ambiance was great. We’ll definitely be back.

See pics of food. Sushi was great– but I’ve never had bad sushi at a sushi place… what I have had — is great sushi at a much better price point. With much better service.
Summer rolls were okay — needed cilantro or an herb. And sauce was okay. Over priced compared to other places. Pro– the chef prepared them without chicken per my request. Peanut sauce tasted canned. Calamari app– overpriced because they were frozen packaged«rings» and served with a canned chili sauce. Egg roll: appeared to be bagged/frozen and not made in house. Meh. Service — although the server himself was very nice and did his best to keep up– it was slow. Only him and another girl working the entire floor. I felt bad for them both — they were literally running at times trying to keep up.

We went on Saturday night where grizz were playing on FedEx forum. We figured there should not be that many people out and about. We were right. This place were about quarter full. Figured we would get food in 30 minutes or so after ordering. Nope, we waited an hour. Food overall were good. I think chef has more Thai background then Japanese. My panang curry were excellent. My wife’s hibachi steak was just OK.

I’ll tell you exactly what this place is: it is a haven of Japanese and Thai food in Cordova where you can get better-than-most food you can’t get elsewhere in the area. I’ll also tell you what it is not: it is not the best Japanese or Thai place in the Memphis area. But that does not take away from the fact that, to my knowledge, it is the only place to get decent yakitori and curry in the Cordova area. And that alone makes me want to come back. Japanese and Thai food is about as good as it gets for me. For that reason, I want them to be done right. Unfortunately, there aren’t really any great places(imo) to get either without going further West inside the I-240 loop, with maybe one or two exceptions. Sake does a good enough job with both that I wouldn’t feel cheated getting my favorite things here. And I’m so thankful, because Cordova NEEDS a good place to get decent Japanese and Thai food. I won’t name names, but there are certain other imposters running around that look nice and everything, and probably fool a lot of people, but don’t be misled: they are not good places to get either. On to the actual experience: I was first really digging the contemporary interior, with stone layered on the walls, fish tanks, lounge sofas and a cool sushi bar. I did feel like it lacked some necessary lighting, however(there was no light at all in our section, which was odd). The service was good, no complaints there. As for the food, everything I had I would probably put in the top 3 or so of places to get whatever it was, but nothing was«the best.» Crab wontons, beef belly yaki, thai stir-fry and Massaman curry(my favorite meal ever, which I was delighted to see on the menu!) were all good and I was pretty satisfied with the quality, presentation and taste on them. When it comes to the curry, I felt like there was lots of room for improvements they could make, but it was one of the best I’ve had in Memphis(second only to the old Bhan Thai before the management changed and messed up all the recipes). As for the yakitori, is it as good as Robata? No, but you don’t have to drive down to Overton Square to get it. I think just because of where I live I would go to Sake instead, just because of the convenience, as opposed to going to Robata for a little bit better yakitori. The other thing I REALLY like about this place is that for all of the entrees, you can choose how much spicy heat you want in your dish. For me, I usually want it hotter than most places can make it hot, so that is something I think is really great. They also have a lot of other things I want to try, particularly the sushi, and other dishes. So I will definitely be back and update my review then!

We had a Groupon and gave this place a try. There have been about twenty different sushi places in this area of Cordova in recent years. They never seem to last outside of Osaka/Sekisui, but we have tried just about all of them. I wasn’t expecting this to be any different than the other disappointments– but I was SO wrong. I’ll start off by saying that we have been back FOUR times in the time frame of about two weeks(sad, I know). It really is THAT good. The service(ask for Hannah!) was amazing each time, even more so when we went back with a party of 9 people. Okay so the food: Appetizer: Crab Angels(The sauce… YUM) Sushi Roll: Titanic(hands down the best roll I have ever had) Dessert: Raspberry I don’t know what– but it was MAGIC. Even if you’re not a fan of raspberry– GET it. Sake: Lychee Infusion Other big hits at our table and honorable mentions: Eel Nigiri, Fried Rice, Outstanding Roll, Las Vegas Roll, Thai Dynamite Chicken, Tokyo Rose Sake… I honestly don’t think there’s a single thing we were disappointed by so far! I’d also like to note the house salad has one of my favorite ginger dressings to date. I am not a big poster, but if this place goes out of business I will be VERY disappointed. My favorite sushi place by far in the Memphis area.

Loved! I hardly ever drive out East for anything but the Apple store, but with the Groupon incentive I made my way out past my Memphis frontier. The inside was super fun and had seating options for all your mood needs. There were two large white couches next to a fire, regular table seating, and seating at both the sushi and alcohol bars(the sushi bar being brighter and the regular bar a bit more cozy.) Our bartender/waitress was super fun and engaging and we got a mix of rolls, some edamame and some gyoza. Everything was delish. Fast service and melt-in-your-mouth specialty rolls. I already have plans to go again. Apparently, it also masquerades as a night club on the weekends with live DJ and open til 3 in the morning, or other such hour I have never been awake for. But, while I don’t find that Memphis has the best sushi(sorry Sekisui), this was well worth the drive.

Both service and food was OK. Had to wait for water and when the water did come, it was awful. There was a strong aftertaste. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t go for the water but I thought that the food would make up for the awful water experience. And i was wrong… The sashimi came and although it looked beautiful, ¾ths was just for décor. Two chopped onions and a whole cucumber littered the plate. After $ 30, I was left hungry and unsatisfied.

We were looking for a new place to have dinner. Sake had been bookmarked for long and we also had their groupon. Hence decided to eat at Sake. The décor was nice and ’twas pretty crowded with large groups. The drinks, sushi rolls(esp. The titanic roll), skewers(esp. Pork belly skewer) and basil fried rice were all very good. The servers were very friendly. And unlike a lot of places, they entertained 2 groupons on the same table. They have a very extensive menu with lots of sushi rolls, sashimis, even Thai curries, noodles and so on. Good veggie options too. I hope they keep up with the good service and food quality.

I don’t usually venture out to Cordova, but when I do it’s usually for great food, with awesome friends… and because we have a Groupon. The décor is modern and I was pleasantly surprised at how busy it was for a Wednesday night! Even had several tv screens to catch the Grizz game! Good drink selection for a sushi joint and decently priced. Few Japanese beers on draft as well as cocktails and sake(friend had the rose plum sake and everyone enjoyed it.) Highlights of the meal were the basil fried rice, pork belly yakitori and titanic roll. We asked the waiter to bring out any veggie sushi roll as well and it was actually really delicious! Service was slow at first but after the crowd died down they were attentive and even accommodated 2 Groupons per the table. If I’m in the neighborhood, would definitely stop by again.

Normally I don’t comment too much about the restaurants I go to. The food was delicious fresh and very tasty. I had the Philly rolls which were freshly prepared so the rice was actually soft. My wife had the drunken noodles which is spicier dish she chose chicken which was delicious. The prices are very reasonable and the interior is very clean and modern looking. They had multiple TVs playing basketball games. The waitresses were very friendly and did a good job and I will definitely be going back. Brent

Sake is a new Japanese/Thai fusion style restaurant. Interior is nice, clean and modern… full service bar(alcohol), fireplace in the center of restaurant, and many flat screen TV’s. It is set up for large dining crowds, couples, or just bar patrons. There is also a sushi bar if that is all you are craving. From entry, the staff was extremely accommodating and nice. I was seated, drink order taken, and menu explained. Also the waitress introduced herself by name and gave her personal recommendations which was a nice touch. The food was fresh and well prepared. I ordered a sushi roll, jalapeño white tuna, which was very good spicy. Also a dish from«Rock the Wok», which is a section of the menu, called Chili Basil. This consisted of stir fried chili, jalapeño, bell pepper, onion, carrot, basil, mushroom, with brown sauce and this was served with white rice. I also added shrimp, which were very nice sized. All ingredients very fresh. Sake has a very large menu with basic starts, sushi, soups, salads, grilled entrees, curry dishes, wok dishes, noodle dishes, various fried rice dishes, hibachi, and desserts! I will go back and try some other dishes. Recommend– 3.5*
