Costa Mesa Marriott

This is a nice hotel to stay at in the area. I usually stay here at least 1x per month on business. Clean, quiet and close to everything.

I use to stay here frequently but I don’t think I’ll be back. They really haven’t keep up with the service provided by other chains. My room rate was reasonable, but the $ 24 parking fee and $ 75 pet fee seemed out of line. I think they even charge for wifi? By comparison, I stayed at the Westin in Passdena the month before and had a much better experience. There was a parking fee, but it included in/​out valet. No schlepping from a crowded and dark garage. There was no pet fee, and the staff greeted my dog like a celebrity, offering treats and scratches wherever we went. The Marriott seemed to view my (well-​mannered) dog as an unwanted visitor. I felt guilty every time I walked through the lobby, as the staff just stared as I went by. If you don’t want dogs at the hotel, don’t promote yourself as pet-​friendly!
Rooms facing the pool are subjected to the sounds of guests partying until 11pm. Multiple soccer & basketball teams were there during my stay. Consider yourself warned.

This is the first business I wished I could give them 100stars!
We were getting married at Center Club and needed a hotel to accommodate our guest, we were referred to another nearby hotel and it was a disaster so we called Marriott hotel and we got in contact with Melissa Irish that handles group reservations!
Melissa really made our lives easy from start, she helped us with anything we needed and we got incredible room rates!
Our stay became amazing from check in to check out and the reason behind it was the amazing staff, all our guest were happy with everything at the hotel.
Thank you again to Melissa Irish and the staff at Marriott hotel for everything.
FYI: they are very pet friendly and they have a amazing outdoor area, front and back.

This Marriott is right off the 405 and 55 freeway intersection, so it’s a great location if you’re in town on business or visiting family.
My friend was staying here back in January and is a VIP rewards member, so we didn’t have to pay for parking, which is usually $ 24 per night. The parking structure gets full quickly and the spaces are tiny, making parking extremely inconvenient.
We were in room 608, which had a living area with a sofa, and a separate bedroom. Amenities included were two flatscreen TVs and a bar area. Overall, it was pretty clean, the bathroom was an okay size, and the bed was comfy, so no complaints.

I stayed here for a couple nights in December. The location is in an industrial area, so it’s nice and convenient for travelers who are here for business/​conferences as it’s only a couple of minutes away from South Coast Plaza and the 405 freeway. There are also several great restaurants nearby, and a Starbucks that’s walking distance.
Parking is $ 24/​day. This is pretty pricey, but thankfully, our parking was comped. There’s a parking garage to self-​park your car with ample parking and easy navigation.
The property does seem a bit older, but the lobby and rooms were very clean. We were complimentary upgraded to a suite, which was a nice gesture from the front desk agent, and much appreciated. The room was pretty nice and spacious. The bedroom separated from the living room, with the French doors, was a nice touch. However, the set up of the television was a bit of odd. The sofa was facing a blank wall, and the TV was on the left side of the sofa. So to watch TV, I had to turn my head left the whole time, which made my neck sore. But, it wasn’t a dealbreaker.
There is a convenient little pantry/​marketplace right next to the registration desk that has a bunch of toiletries, snacks, medicine, random accessories, etc. I was craving ice cream, so i just picked one out from the freezer, walked to the front desk, and had it charged to my room. Easy.
Overall, I had a great stay. The agents were very friendly and the property was nice. I would definitely come back.

Came here for a conference last week. I had an overall good stay for the day I was here. The bar/​café is really expensive but aside from that the catering itself is actually good and accommodating. You see, I was on a special diet that day. The chef in charge made sure that I was accommodated for with no extra charge.
Our room was clean, as was the lobby. This is really important to me when staying in a hotel. This was very much appreciated it. The location itself is really suited for conferences/​business meetings. If you are an out of towner and you are looking for something closer to the beach, then this is not the place for you. If you don’t mind the industrial feel to the area, this hotel is pretty decent and in walking distance to restaurants and Starbucks.

Very nice property! I really liked our little suite. Had a nice view of the pool and the pond down below. Beds were comfty, bathroom was clean and nice, TV was good, morning breakfast buffet was great. Staff were on point. Parking was a parking structure and it was pretty easy to navigate through.

Check in was very quick and the staff were awesome. My complaints are the following: $ 24.00 a day to park. That is beyond crazy but we had no choice and had to pay. Also I feel you need more handicap spaces. I am recovering from knee replacement so handicap parking is a must right now. The room was clean and spacious. The drapes on the other hand were not. The room did not have a microwave. We had to go to the 2^nd floor or the lobby to use one. Kind of strange to me. No free wifi in the rooms. It is the least you can provide.

The pool and gym area are nice. They had a good amount of gym equipment and a nice outside area to run outside if you don’t like running on treadmills. I didn’t eat at their restaurant but it looked nice. They claimed to have wi-​fi and good tv channels but I didn’t get wi-​fi and there was only a few channels to choose from.

Other better services hotel airport parking books up 2+ weeks in advance. Always can get parking here but at a con. Shuttle only goes in the hour, no exceptions. So instead of 45min wait, I’ve taken cabs at $ 12 extra. Check in is a 10 – 15 min process with extra forms to fill out. Then to IC airport is another 15 min due to distance, traffic lights and traffic volume. Too bad, nice parking covered facility.
But you can always find parking here inside of 2weeks notice… at a cost of additional time and $$

Stayed here for a couple days over the weekend. Service was easy and painless, room was very nice and clean, bed was comfortable. We left in a hurry and I left a handful of things in the nightstand drawer, including a Kindle and an Android tablet, and was convinced that I’d never see them again, but the hotel found them and covered the cost to express ship my stuff back to me, which I hugely appreciated.
Parking was kind of pricy but that seems pretty par for the course in LA & its surrounding areas, but no free wifi is kind of ridiculous for a place this nice.

I must admit the place was beautiful settings and all but I have many reasons to why I am giving this place 1 star out of 5.
1. Checking in took 30 minutes long and it wasn’t because of a long line either. There was only one person managing the front desk and I had to wonder why.
2. It took an hour after I had requested for extra towels.
3.The prices for breakfast were insane I can go eat at Ihop for that price.
4. Water that was provided in our suite had to be paid for? REALLY??? I never had this experience with Hyatt.
5.We had to pay for parking. Now here’s the thing, I probably wouldn’t mind it if they wouldn’t have told us that it was free to begin with.
6. Wifi was not free. WONDERFUL LETS PAY FOR EVERY LITTLE THING.
In other words I would prefer to go to Hyatt any day. Me and my family decided that we will never be coming back here again. Service is horrible and slow plus everything is over charged. Think before going here. The only benefit you will get is that the mall is about 5 minutes away.

I’ve used this hotel a couple of times to crash after a night out in Costa Mesa /​Newport area. My most recent visit was last weekend.
As hotels go it’s really nice. The rooms are nice, the beds are comfy and they’re good with «red eye» check-​ins.
There’s a breakfast buffet downstairs in the morning but I didn’t eat there so I can’t say how good it might be.
All in all for what I use it for it’s a great place at a reasonable price.

I paid 300 $ plus for my one night stay here! Guess what I check in and they say it 25 $ for the parking, I was like seriously!!! That is not the end of the story! I come in the room and there is no microwave oven! Water bottle for 3 $. The bathroom was dirty!!! They deserve my one star!!! Won’t ever come back here!!!

I stayed here with my wife and daughter for a night this weekend, and we were pretty excited that we’d be staying at the Marriot. we got a one bedroom suite, ot was pretty small for what we paid, the Hotel itself is very nice!
At check in the man asked if I’d be parking my vehicle inside i said yes, without being informed that I would be charged 24 $ overnight. i wish i would have been told beforehand.
The stay in general was nice, the breakfast buffet was a little pricey but delicious.
Another thing i didn’t like was when I woke up the next morning, as i stepped out i see a piece of paper just laying there in front of my door, it was an unsealed invoice, a little unprofessional for me.
It was nice, but it wouldn’t be my next choice the next time we stay out here.

Call me a hotel snob but, honestly, after the age of 25 don’t you pay that little extra for convenience? If you’re just looking for a place to lay your head for the night I suppose this could be the place for you, though there are plenty of other (cheaper) options in the area that you could choose from. However, if you’re like me and looking for a place of convenience then you may want to re-​think this particular Marriott location.
Although my husband and I were born and raised in Orange County when we find ourselves going to a concert and/​or show that gets out late we prefer to just get a hotel room nearby.
We’ve stayed at different Marriott locations in the past, and have received good service from each one so we decided to stay with a hotel brand that we knew. Unfortunately, by the end of our one night stay this particular location will now be referred to as «The Ghetto Marriott.»
Was it truly run down enough to be deemed as «ghetto»? I’m sure by normal standards it really isn’t as bad as the roach motels, but then again, we were not paying for a roach motel…
Let’s start with the parking. What hotel charges $ 24 for self parking? Sure, this isn’t a make or break for us but still. Luckily, we only had a small overnight bag but could you imagine unloading a van full of kids and several pieces of heavy luggage? I think not.
The guy behind the front desk was courteous enough but not enough for me to want to remember his name to highlight his excellence.
On to the room. If you look at the pictures attached to Unilocal it’s a fair assessment of the room itself. I liked that the bedroom was separate from the living room area and the french doors were a nice touch. However, after sitting at the desk area I opened the drawer to find it was incredibly sticky… as gross as that was I thanked my lucky stars that was I touched only turned out to be BBQ sauce. Clearly the maids failed to clean that particular spot.
They offer an ipod/​iphone docking station… if you have the iphone 4 or older that is. We tried finding a USB port but to no avail either.
Looking for free WiFi? You’re not going to find that here. Keep your minutes rolling because it would cost you around $ 15 to access theirs.
If you have long hair like I do and/​or hair volume you’ll hate the shower head. It was by far the worst shower pressure I’ve had in a long time. So just be prepared to bring your own hair straightener because you’re SOL when it comes to volume. Not to mention the ICE COLD shower. You heard right. Anytime a toilet flushed within close proximity to the room the shower goes from hot to ice cold. And the hair dryer? It shuts down after about 20 – 30 seconds before needing to re-​charge itself. I’m not sure if the one I used was faulty, but that’s what we experienced with it.
Fun fact — that FREE continental breakfast you find downstairs in the morning can also be delivered to your room… for the small price of $ 12.50! You receive 1 coffee, 1 juice, 1 cereal and a piece of fruit.
At the end of the day, it wasn’t absolute worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at but it certainly wouldn’t make my top 20 list either.

Edit: I should have put the bottom-​line on the Costa Mesa Marriott is this hotel is shit.
Immediate turn-​off when you get into SNA and see all of the major nearby hotel shuttles that run on the ½ hr (Hotel Irvine, Hyatt, Irvine Marriott, Hilton) only to have to call and find out that Marriott Costa Mesa is on-​call and then only on the hour. For that reason alone, AVOID. I walked up and saw Marriott, waiting. But no, that was Irvine Marriott. WTF?
Update: Oh wait, here’s the Irvine Marriott shuttle pulling up AGAIN, same shuttle. The Irvine Marriott driver explained «They’re not a full-​service hotel …»
Update: Still waiting … 50 minutes later. Oh, here’s the same Hilton shuttle for the THIRD time since I’ve been here. And same Marriott Irvine shuttle for the third time.
Update: after an hour I called them again and they said shuttle was on the way. 10 min later they called back and said to take a taxi (reimbursed).
Update: this place doesn’t stop ceasing to amaze me how terrible the customer service is and the hospitality. How is this a «Marriott»? One business center computer for general use and barely anywhere in the lobbies or restaurant can you even sit and charge a device. Really mediocre (like terrible) bottles of wine at the bar … $ 17/​glass average.
Like what in the world is up with this place?

At first we were thrown by the expensive parking and fees for everything. But when we checked out, when asked how our stay was, we hesitated and said good, but they picked up on it. Comped our parking and swept us to the breakfast area.
Hector, and Rogero were especially courteous in cooking a special meal for me as I have celiacs disease. These two are fit for a three diamond restaurant! Excellent customer service. Keep it up Marriott!

I stayed here for a night, and it was somewhat suitable for such.
I attended an event here over the weekend, and the room it was held in was okay.
The chairs were a bit outdated and so they squeaked, were discolored, and leaned back when they probably shouldn’t.
The room’s AC however worked well, and didn’t have a funny smell whatsoever.
Our room smelled like a smoking room upon entry, which hurt my sensitive system.
I saw signs posted everywhere about not smoking on the balcony, perhaps someone decided to smoke indoors?
I found a plastic Casio watch beside the bed, in plain sight of where a maid would see it.
There was dust across the wooden headboard.
The bedding confused me terribly (protector, fitted sheet, top sheet, bare down alternative comforter, top sheet on top of that).
When checking the bedding, the loose protector had long black human hairs in it/​on it.
The front/​sitting room phone had no cord connecting the handheld piece to the base, and it wasn’t wireless.
The soaps were of great quality, but they’re supplied by a sponsor.
The pool area wasn’t kept up, so chairs had bones on them (from chicken wings or something), the chairs also were caked in dust over the two days I was there.
Also, the tables next to the lounge chairs are terribly uneven, so they wobble/​seem unstable.
The bathroom from the lobby for women was up kept nicely, except for the sanitary item dispenser (stickers are missing).
The men’s bathroom however was a mess one day (pooled water, paper around the floor), and a janitor blatantly ignored it, and left the bathroom (this was brought up to the front desk).
I didn’t partake in the breakfast here. It looked good when walking by.
It was charged to our room however by someone else.

The Costa Mesa Marriott is the Hotel that really works, mostly well.
Compared to the Marriotts in Newport, this property is older but still exceptionally functional, and has the advantage of being more centrally located to most of the connecting freeways, highways, roads in the area, and is a skip and hop from the beaches.
Since we are Marriott «Platinum» it’s easy enough for us to score a reservation at just about any location, even during the high season when there’s conventions and surf contests going on. Checking in was fine, even though one of the front desk people who was clearly brand new tried to overlook our reservation since we arrived past 8 pm. Once his manager reviewed our status, it all changed for the better.
Now, here’s my warning, since the property is older, the Hotel parking garage has a really L O W ceiling clearance. The measurements are clearly posted before you drive in but, when we arrived, there were two guys in giant, jacked up SUV“s who got the roofs of their cars jammed on the L O W (said it again, get the message?) hanging garage ceiling while trying to drive to the second floor, sigh. Well, that was a waste of over 20 minutes, waiting for these ladies to finish their business, trying to park, because we were stuck behind them.
As for the rooms, our suite was comfy, quiet, and definitely on par with the chain’s level of quality. I needed my sleep since I was working with my surfing coach early the next morning during the contests and my rest went totally undisturbed!
Why not more stars? This hotel definitely tries but it’s painfully obvious there are really experienced people working here but also some managers/​staff who could use more training.
Follow…Sunday morning, we decided to try the Costa Mesa Marriott’s breakfast buffet, since it comes complimentary with our stay. Walked down to the restaurant at 9 am, and it was chaos. Firstly, there are NO signs directing you to their seating policy, which is open table. As a result people were waiting around, at the entrance, aimlessly, waiting to be greeted and seated. Solution?
Try posting a sign that reads, «Welcome! Please Seat Yourself.»
The breakfast area was slammed for a high season Sunday morning. There were several people sitting at the bar, eating their cereal! I mean, really?! Meanwhile, the entire back dining rooms were vacant, but closed off, and could have easily handled the overflow of diners who wanted to sit down at a table. Eating breakfast on a barstool makes me feel like I’ve never left college!
We tried to order something from the breakfast menu only to be told that it would take ½ hour to prepare because most people were eating at the buffet. The manager on duty was running around, doing busy stuff, one moment greeting a table, the next trying to take my un-​refilled mimosa glass and asking if we wanted our check even though we had just arrived and had not even received our utensils or food yet. Totally inconsistent which shows some of the managers/​staff need more development and guidance. The buffet food was good, what little of it was labeled so you could tell what you were eating but, the stations were set about in a haphazard fashion, and did not flow with the traffic of the huge number of people trying to get their first meal. As a result, there were empty food bins that had not been refilled.
Would we stay here again? Yes.​That said, breakfast delivery to the room next time is in order!
