History

Established in 1990.

Our private dental practice was originally established in the early sixties by the late and beloved Dr. Robert Engman in the Newport Beach area. Dr. Prouty took over the practice when Dr. Engman retired. We currently have patients who started with our practice when they were children and have continued with Dr. Prouty to this day!

Dr. Prouty continues Dr. Engman’s philosophy that patients are to be treated like family… and not like numbers. We’re a family run practice and not corporate owned, so all decisions are based on what is best for our patients.

Though you’ll find we stay current with the latest dental techniques, materials, and technology, we also strive to have that home town feel by assuring our patients are well cared for and comfortable at all times. No short-​cuts in care here!

Business Owner

USC and Washington University Graduate with 20 years experience as a dentist in the Orange County area. Dr. Prouty is an active and current member of the ADA, and CDA, along with many other organizations, study clubs, etc.

Dr. Prouty is married and their daughter is now studying engineering at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. He loves spending time with his family, staying fit, playing music with his band, and keeping up on the latest in dentistry through numerous seminars, courses, etc., all the while mentoring other dentists in CEREC and guided implant techniques and technologies.

There have been plenty of times I have been to see Dr.Prouty.fillings, root canals. and it has always been clear to me that the main objective for Dr Prouty is the patience
comfort which it always has been. Not to mention his patience with my autistic son who is quite squirmish and has difficulty following directions! The whole staff in the office are very friendly and accomidating to my family and working schedule!
Recently Dr. Prouty removed two grown wisdom teeth and after several days of unremarkable discomfort I noticed on a Sunday the pain would not seem to go away after seriouse pain killers. reluctantly I called Dr. Prouty who told me to meet him in his office in two hours.
In flip flops and after driving for over an hour (I knew he lived far from Newport Beach
where I came from) he proceeded to treat the tooth. Not going to lie the procedure was uncomfortable however the results we immediate and the pain had subsided quickly. I doubt very much other dentist would spend their Sundays helping their patients. as a mom I know so!
For a great dentist and great pediatric dentist call Dr. Prouty!

I have been coming here since Water Garden Dental opened! I’ve highly recommended them to many friends, who also have had a great experience and feel the same as I do.
I’ve had several scary experiences before coming here. I am so at ease now that I found a dentist that I am comfortable with. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. I have always been seen on time never had to wait to be seen at Water Garden Dental. The office has state of the art equipment that had my implant done the same day.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Prouty’s for about 9 years now. Going for a dental visit at Dr. Prouty’s office is more like going to a day-​Spa than a dental appointment. The facility is relaxing and beautiful, has only state-​of-​the-​art equipment, and a very professional and kind working staff. Dr. Prouty is extremely detailed and precise with every procedure he performs and always explains procedures before performing them in detailed but understandable terms. He is very professional, but friendly at the same time. i always feel relaxed and in good care during my visits to Water Garden Dental.

I would Highly Recomend Dr. Eric Prouty, He is very knowledgable and helpful in all things dentistry. He gave me beautiful vaneers that really make me smile nice and bright. I was very impressed with the staff knowlege and willing to help me with all that I needed. Also to top it of I got to listen to my favorite music as the work was being done to keep me nice and relaxed. Super clean and proffessional office.

I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Prouty, Laura, and the rest of the office staff. I put off going to the Dentist out of fear, for quite a while. To make a long story short, I had an emergency situation two days ago and it needed attention quickly. They were booked but made room for me and treated me with the greatest care. After examining me, Dr. Prouty referred me to a specialist. He not only referred me, but Laura, his office manager, made an appointment for that same day and the problem was taken care of!
My sister and her husband have been going to see Dr. Prouty for a while and told me about what a great Dentist he is, and how great Laura and the staff are, and believe me, they are! I will not put off Dental Appointments any more, and will never go to any other office for Dental work. Five Stars for them!!!

I have been a patient of Dr. Prouty’s for over 15-​years. I began going to him based on a referral from a coworker. I previously had a terrible experience at a dentist and had became terrified to go to the dentist. That all ended shortly after seeing Dr. Prouty! My entire family cannot imagine going to another dentist!
The PROS:
1. Can you say «appointments ON TIME»? I don’t think I have EVER waited more than three minutes in the beautiful waiting room for an appointment. I love it when someone actually realizes that my time is as valuable as their time is!
2. The STAFF! Dr. Prouty’s staff have all worked with him for years. They know all the patients, are competent, friendly and know how to run an office in a professional and friendly manner.
3. The INSURANCE BILLING! I know that when I receive a billing statement from Dr. Prouty’s office it will be correct! No going round and round with the dental office or the insurance company. That is such a relief!
4. The DENTIST! Dr. Prouty is the BEST! His office is packed full of the latest technology and he knows how to use it. I have had my teeth cleaned as well as extensive work done and Dr. Prouty always explains the options available, the pros and cons. Never pressure to spend more money, just the facts so you can make an educated decision. And as far as his work, I have always been 200% satisfied and endured minimal discomfort!
5. The OFFICE! Dr. Prouty’s newly designed office is beautiful and comfortable! All this greatness and also loads of parking and convenient to the freeway.
The CONS:
I can’t even begin to think of one drawback or negative thing to say about Dr. Prouty, his staff or his service! They are simply the BEST!
BUT, if I were to list a CON it would be that sadly someday Dr. Prouty will retire and I will be in «dental mourning» forever as he cannot be replaced!

Best of the best! He makes an MRI type image of your mouth with a cone beam machine (google it). Having a state of the art, 3D map of your mouth ensures you are getting the best prognosis possible.
He also takes hi-​res digital photos of the teeth, so right away, it is plain as day what he is talking about. Truly a professional’s professional!
Even called himself the next day to see how I was feeling.

Hands down the best practice around! My kids and I have had a terrific experience here (no need to take your kids to a pediatric dentist – this office will provide gentle care and adequate/​not overwhelming distraction!). From the front office to Dr. Prouty, to the hygenists and assistant, you will be well cared for at reasonable prices (not to mention they do not attempt to sell you on treatments you don’t really need). Clean, friendly, thorough, run on time for appointments… cannot say enough about this practice.

After a terrible dentist experience at another OC dentist, I received a recommendation from a friend to try Water Garden Dental. I am SO happy I did. I am no longer afraid to go to the dentist. Dr. Prouty and his staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about dentistry. The office itself is very modern and the water theme throughout, including underwater sea creature videos and the pond off the back, make the office very relaxing. Like other reviewers have mentioned, it is very similar to a fancy spa. The hygienists are very gentle and thorough. Dr. Prouty is great at explaining each issue and the process to fix a cavity or chipped tooth. I love that he will show me why the work needs to be done on either the x-​ray or photo of my teeth. Furthermore, he was able to prioritize the work that needed to be done while showing me the estimated costs so we could decide on an appropriate treatment plan together. I dislike the sounds associated with teeth cleaning and drilling, so I LOVE that they provide headphones with choice of Sirius XM radio stations to listen to. When I needed to get my wisdom teeth removed earlier this year, Dr. Prouty provided a great referral for Newport Beach Oral Surgery.

Dr Prouty and his hygienists are great! Dr Prouty invests in new equipment and training to make sure he is on the leading edge of dentistry and the office has state of the art equipment. Hygienists both are very sweet and friendly, and pay attention to the detail when cleaning your teeth making sure you come out of there with a million dollar smile. :D

This guy and his staff are DA BOMB. I have never met such a friendly group of people who are personable, sweet and warm. I have been going to Dr. Prouty for the past 3 years or so. As Vincent said, this is the best dental experience I have ever had. When you walk in, it doesn’t feel like a dental office, but rather a spa where you will be pampered for the next hour. I highly recommend him.

I’ve been going to Dr. Prouty for a few years, and never had to have any «real» work done. His new dental assistant is very nice and gentle — the nasty scrape… scrape…poke isn’t too bad. I had been putting off having a couple of fillings replaced for a while. and with the gentle threat of «it could get worse» i went in yesterday to finally take care of business. I was extremely anxious thanks to a terrible experience years ago.
Karen at reception was very kind and understanding… I was a woman on the edge, after all. Dr. Prouty and his assistant took the time to talk to me about my previous experience, and told me everything they were doing, reminding me that everything was in my control, and we could stop whenever I needed to. Well, the freezing went in, no problem. The work was done before I knew it and it ended up being a great experience.
Walking into the office is kind of like walking into a spa. Everyone is very friendly and I think almost our entire department goes to see him now! I never feel rushed or pushed to purchase any products. They are very low key and they know their patients. I wouldn’t go to anyone else!

This isn’t a dentist’s office – it’s a luxury cruise! Great attention to the passenger with fantastic customer service! I’m 58 years old and have been to more than a dozen dentists over the years – THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST DENTAL EXPERIENCE I’VE EVER HAD! As I told my wife, «we have died and have gone to dentist heaven!»
The office is clean and pleasingly decorated, the office staff are friendly and competent, and the dental equipment is state-​of-​the-​art. Oh, and Dr. Eric is better at what he does than any other dentist I’ve ever been to. How so? He takes whatever time is necessary to do exams and makes certain he explains everything he is doing and what needs to be done. Never once did I have a feeling of being rushed or that he needed to move on to another patient.
Now, when did a dentist ever make you feel so valued? This guy is the real deal. Do yourself a favor – dump your old «rush-​you-​through, charge you-​too-​much» dentist and run to Water Garden Dental (you’ll see why they call it that on your first visit) featuring your cruise director Dr. Eric Prouty.
