Colorful. Authentic. Connected. Truly Crested Butte!
The Ruby is Gunnison Valley’s premier Bed and Breakfast Inn for the discerning visitor seeking gracious treatment, abundant amenities, and a destination where affordable luxury and environmental responsibility come together to create an exceptional guest experience. The Ruby is located in downtown Crested Butte in the heart of the Bed and Breakfast District.
History
Established in 2005.
The Ruby actually began as a simple conversation of dreams while on vacation in Crested Butte in 2004. While visiting over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, they collected advertisements from the various real estate signs listed in front of properties that were for sale. They laughed at how much more expensive the property in the area was than back in Denver, where they lived. On one particular flier, they noticed that it was originally built as a bed and breakfast inn, but it hadn’t been operated as such for several years. «Could we open a B&B?,» they asked. «Is it possible?» Andrea commented, «Let’s let something else stop us; let’s not stop ourselves!» Numbers were run, concepts were proposed, banks were harassed, careers were ‘placed on hold’, and nerves were frayed, but five months later, Chris and Andrea arrived in a very snowy Crested Butte without a dime being borrowed from family or friends. A few weeks later, on January 1, 2005, The Ruby welcomed their first guests.
Meet the Business Owner
Chris and Andrea G.
Business Owner
Chris and Andrea are part of a new era of B&B owners. Andrea was born in Alabama, where much of her family still lives, raised in Virginia and Chicago, and graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder. Prior to moving to Crested Butte, Andrea worked as the Human Resource Manager on an acquisition team within a non-store division of The Home Depot — basically she helped the big boys buy up mom & pop’s around the country. Chris is a native of Nebraska, was raised in Arizona, and graduated from high school in Longmont, Colorado near Boulder. After getting his degree from the University of Wyoming, and a two year stint as a financial analyst for Mirage Resorts in Las Vegas, he moved back to Boulder where he earned his law degree. After passing the bar, Chris worked in the Governor’s Office of Economic Development where he served as the Associate State Director of Small Business Development. Basically, he helped mom & pop’s get purchased by the big boys!
