Launched as a boutique publishing service, the company grew to be one of the nation’s leading health care publishers, servicing more than 20 hospitals nationwide. Simultaneously, SHM Publishing provides annual report, community health and foundation publications for an audience of key decision-​makers, as well as for everyday readers.

Meet the Business Owner

Steven M.

Business Owner

Originally from Culver City, California, Steven Mullen founded SHM Publishing after servicing as a newsletter and marketing materials editor for a variety of organizations. Mullen graduated from Yale University in 1969, worked on the award-​winning movie WOODSTOCK, among others, wrote and directed WHITE RAT, a feature-​length detective film and served as editorial services manager for Beneficial Standard Life Insurance Company. In addition, he played a leading role in a major charitable organization in the publicity department. In 1985, Mullen launched SHM Publishing to meet the professional editorial services needs, including project management, of hospitals, engineering firms, law firms and others in need of marketing materials, identity brochures and other printed communications.
